Thank you for exposing this side of the game; it truly shows the human emotions on the field. Much respect to all the soccer referees out there.
Refereeing is a very tough job so I appreciate shining light on the refs. One of the reasons I like soccer is that the rules allow for intent to become part of the call. Decisions are more about the spirit of the law rather than purely word for word literalism. Great video.
It feels like a commercial, which would be cool if the MLS did something like that, to promote the league

I think all players, opportunity provided, should ref at least one season. Trust me, it changes your whole perspective on the game. I started doing to make money, I continued because I love it. This kind of video gives you a whole new respect for officials that you only get from being in that position yourself

@@Jhart44 I can tell you as a ref in San Diego where we have a lot of players who are Spanish speakers that it can be helpful to know other languages but it isn't necessary. I've refereed teams from Germany, Russia, Japan, and Mexico to name a few and you can still get by only knowing English.
@@boltsteve I'm from Riverside County so I have alot of spanish speaking players, but most refs here (and I think my association sends refs down to SD alot) know enough spanish that I get by just only knowing english
@@Jhart44 depends what country your thinking of refereeing in, in the UK referee's of any age or level aren't allowed to wear cameras according to IFAB
I used to ref in here in Idaho. It gave me a whole new perspective and respect for referees

Uhhhhh yeah that non-red card that is shown during the Sounders game is absolutely a red card. Guy would have easily gotten a second touch on the ball and put it in the net. I bet if that ref saw the replay he would see he got the call wrong.
I have nothing against VAR when it comes to making the correct call, my problem with it is that offside calls are now coming down to whether you trimmed your toenails now. That was never in the spirit of the game.
Man European players complained to much in those all star games.. I would've been handing out yellow cards.

Referees need to be ex professional players. A referee that has never played the game, does not know how the players play the game on the pitch. Just like in music, it takes an experienced musician to evaluate another musician, in football, it takes an former player to evaluate another player.

soccer referees have ruined the game. Too many fouls given, too many offsides, VAR used if even a player's hair is offside, slowing down every game. If every single ref disappeared from soccer or their power was reduced massively, then the sport would improve immediately, right now they do a good job at ruining every game we watch.
referees are merely enforcers of the rules - they don’t make them up. real chance begins with IFAB and then adjusting their laws to make the game more enjoyable. it’s like getting arrested for vandalism and blaming it on the police officer when in reality it’s the law.

@@elanordeal2457 1. All soccer referees don't enforce the rules equally. Some have a better utilization of context within which a foul was committed. Some are too strict, others don't see a crazy violent foul and let it go without checking VAR. 2. It would honestly serve the sport better if Robots would serve as referees, because there would be an equal assessment of the outcomes, and no player/club/financial influence on the refs. 3. A lot of the rules of the IFAB are comically strict, to the point that stoppages in games make the sport boring. Consistent and more lenient refereeing would go a long way to improving the sport for spectators, instead of killing the sport, and driving fans to seek other forms of entertainment.
@@ericwolfe5574 yes I definitely do agree with more lenient refereeing. however, football is not a black and white sport unfortunately. meaning that each game is going to differ depending on the referee’s personality and how they interpret certain elements of play that warrant big decisions.
