I found this video very useful. I am new to e-learning and I found it difficult to get started. I now feel better with beginning my first one. I loved the fact that he said just start typing! Everything will not be perfect the first time. Thanks for the tips.

Very informative. Thanks for sharing from your extensive experience. Picked up quite a few pointers. Especially liked the section of managing SMEs and the expectation. Thanks

The biggest challenge I find with the subject matter experts is getting them to focus on the fact it's a different delivery method. I've found work around to help, but there's definitely a set way of thinking about their content. If it was a workshop or webinar it can end up being pushed that way.
I created a workbooks as a spreadsheet to combat this.
This was an interesting video. Appreciate you sharing it. I post about a lot about eLearning also, your video is food for thought.

This is a great planning process not only for e-learning but for a lot of projects. In my situation I not only create e-learning but also the best practise documents. These also have content, layout, need reviewing, etc. Very helpful. Would like to join in live but in New Zealand that would be 4am. I'm not that keen! Thanks.

Great information regarding military clients. I have been dealing with this on a daily basis for 3 years. Content overload and lots of push back, minimal interactivity, too.

this was an informative video and helpful for me to use. I have the knowledge from film/tv background but as you pointed out it just seems overboard for using with stakeholders and SMEs.

THANK YOU Ffor the video. I strongly believe that good story boarding is a skill. One needs some level of creativity to come up with interesting SB's the moment he/she reads a content OR 2nd option has to learn from existing examples which can be time consuming

Hi First of all Great Tutorial. Im a newbie in E learning development and your webinar is very helpful. I just want to ask about the delivery of prototype of the course to SME. Is it possible that SME's gonna tap into the visual design of the content and change it? They are not allowed to do it dont they? Im a e learning developer at our company, Our SME's sometimes want to change the composition of our design. Pretty annoying sometimes.

    This was absolutely useful information.
I am studying Instructional Design in the United States and I did not know that SME is Instructional Designer. I thought that e-learning developer is Instructional Designer. Impressive material!

I can't believe so much time have passed and no one has told you - you HAD been right.
And SME is a subject matter expert
Usually someone you might be interviewing to get more information about the subject you are trying to teach.
I have no idea what environment this guy is in that he says that they are instructional designers...

In the medical field it’s referred to as instructional design

@@TheGypsyVanners is it possible that sometimes an SME can be the Instructional Designer too, like an entrepreneur. I am an SME in Food Safety as an Expert but I am also an ID for my own company. However, when I work for another organisation, I forget about my SME abilities and find out from them what they want to say. If I have some ideas I will share but not as the expert, only to assist by research and curating material for content. What are you thoughts?

@@id2live Sure Janice, I am an SME in environment, climate change, sustainability and circular economy and I do the ID too but when I work with other people, I am a ID and as much as I may know, I still listen well to the SME

Great content. I wonder if now, in 2020, if the tools you use have shifted. The process is the same. I teach a similar approach in my college course in Multimedia Design. I don't force my students to use specific tools because they never know which tools they will have access to, or what a client will want. The same process can be executed using any number of tools. Lately we've been using Google Doc and Google sides for the scripting and storyboarding process so we can collaborate as a team. I'm seeing Articulate take up a lot of bandwidth. But it is very expensive if you're a freelancer.

Dale, actually we have stayed the course with our tools because they work for us. We use Google apps for our day to day processes and they could certainly be used in the process of Storyboarding. The collaboration features and file redundancy are two key components that make the Google apps very enticing for any business.
I recently posted on our blog about my personal preference for using Adobe XD for prototyping courses. It really helps me to visualize the course and the learner experience. There are similar applications out there for wireframing and prototyping, I just lean towards the Adobe products for any creative tools.
You are absolutely correct, don't get locked into one tool or process because clients have different needs. This is especially important for college students to learn. The ability to adapt to any given environment is a great skill to have.
Thank you so much Dale for your comments. We really appreciate that you took the time to share. Please let us know what other topics you would like to see us cover.

I find that I am highly dependent on the available graphics I can find on my authoring tool or graphic subscitpions. and this is the most time consuming one, because of colors, theme, feel etc.

The hardest part is getting started. For someone who is an expert in their field and does thing easily in their field, I find it difficult to get started.
Why? Because I don't want to spend the time (threshold) of learning how to do this process. If you can figure out how to get people over that hump. That! and provide a solution, there are plenty of people who will BUY that course.

Too long, same visuals, only audio that I heard, makes me tired to hear after 2 minutes.
Content should be like more visual( good example slides) needed to explain the content.

I have to be honest. I would have rather seen a session of writing an example. This doesn’t help someone new very much.

This is the worst way to throw up a video. It’s a webinar (that would have bored me to tears) so he keeps asking the audience to interact and saying “I’ll tell you my ideas a bit later on….” Could be edited into a 5 minute educational video. Shame.
