Tibbit. A magically evolved race that began as wizard familiars, they're a shapechanger that looks like a halfling, but can change into the form of a domestic cat at will. In 5e, this would be like having an unlimited number of uses of wild shape, but only to change into a cat. Modron: Don't just re-skin the warforged. That's weak. Spellscales and Darfellen were 2 of the first races I read about when 3.5 introduced me to D&D If I was gonna cobble together a 3.5 wishlist it would probably include Hellbred, Elan, Thri Kreen and Hengeyokai
Phanatons got a 3.5 writeup, having previously only appeared for BECMI, in Dragon issues #339 and #351. Their first appearance as PCs was in Dragon #188, but they debuted as monsters in the module X1: Isle of Dread.
being a different type other than humanoid is a huge buff, because things like hold person, and charm person dont work on things that are not humanoid, so would say that having a subtype other than human is a huge advantage (like satyrs and centaurs, because they are fey)
For the Phantaton the bonuses while in forests could be like the the Svirfneblin's Stone Camouflage, giving Adv. on Stealth checks while in forests. With the added forest knowledge just being Proficiency in Nature or Survival or both.
Phanatons originally came from D&D Basic and the setting of Mystara. If you want a stated up version of them for playing in 5e go ask Mr Welch on his channel, he's basicly "THE" Mystara guy that's trying to bring the setting back, and he has some stats for Phanatons
I can see the glimmerfolk being descendants of humans that were trapped in the feywild. I would probably give their nimels acting as a dancing light type effect (except they have to stay by them and cant form the humanoid) permanently until they burn them out for the effects

Something I've always wondered about the dnd multiverse: how did all of these sentient races evolve far enough to establish civilizations without getting snuffed out by other stronger ones?
I think I made a few of these by accident especially the ghost elf and the Dragonborn I was really surprised by the darfellan Darfellan was by making a goliath equivalent of a sea-elf and flavouring a Totem barbarian with sea creatures with orca being bear also giving him some Battle master fighter and Gloomstalker levels and a narwhal harpoon (greatsword with a chain of returning). Echolocation for him was any type of water and it a survival check (so putting his hand in a puddle or a lake would activate it)
The Ghost Elves sound cool, I would probably go the Deep Gnome route, not give them spells to start but give them Ghost Elf Magic as a Feat which would let you cast See Invisibility, Blink and Etherealness once each per long rest. I would give them a racial feature that once per short rest let you end the Restrained and/or Grappled condition.
31:00 I like to give animal-based races the free use of speak with animals for the animal they're based off like cat to cat dog to dog snake to snake. As someone who is currently playing a Dragonborn of Bahamut in a 5e campaign, I was really not expecting that to be #1 on the list. Ever since I found out about them, I think I’ve really liked them for 2 reasons. 1) They choose to dedicate their entire lives to fighting to protect the world from creatures who wish to destroy or rule it. Not only do they show this in actions, but they give their entire body to the cause, sacrificing everything they once were in order to protect other people. 2) I just really like dragons
oh my god I once ran a sea campaign in 3.5e and had two players run Darfellan brothers and it was hella fun. Seeing it on your list made me happy to see the Darfellan rep
Honestly, I'd like the dragonborn to just be revamped and there are subraces. Not like the ones in Wildemount, those can be thrown into a fire. Like you take the aspects of a dragon such as their wisdom, strength or their intelligence and you can choose a subrace that works for what kind of class you want. Like take the stat increases for the wildemount dragonbonr (those are fine) and some of the more useful traits like darkvision. Also, have a number of dragon breath charges that are 1 + your con modifier, you can spend more than one charge and add 2d6 of the damage type and keep the resistances. Hell, you can give one of the subraces something like natural armor. I homebrewed something like this, I never got a chance to play test it but essentially I took the ideas of dragonborn subraces and made them actually good. And they look more like dragons with horns and tails.
I hope the ghost elves get some love. Idk if they are in other settings but im sure they are forgotten realms. And the original dragonborn are great. I've contemplated offering it my pc's Vayemniri
My own Top 10 list that I'd like to see in 5e: 10) Half-giant (Expanded Psionics) - Give us some glorious Dark Sun. 9) Death-Touched (Dragon 313) - humanoid usually created via an undead bloodline (not unlike the spellscale having dragon blood). 8) Azerblood (Dragon 350) - tiefling/aasimar version of a dwarf. Could just be a subrace of a dwarf like a duergar. 7) Diabolus (Dragon 327) - an outsider satyr with a scorpion tail. 6) Dvati (Dragon Compendium Vol 1) - This is less likely to ever happen, but they're essentially twins that share hit points. They don't necessarily have to share classes either. 5) Spelljammer races (Dragon 339): insectare, giff, and scro - Instead of listing them individually, just pile them all into one listing because all three would be fantastic to have. 4) Gruwaar (Dragon 317) - monkeylike goblin cat fey. Because heck yeah! 3) Whisper Gnome (Races of Stone) - a subtype of the gnome, but incredibly stealthy and very, very silent. 2) Thri-kreen, non-psionic (Monster Manual II) - another dark sun race, but has four arms and has a crazy jump ability. 1) Hellbred (Fiendish Codex II) - humanoids that messed up when they were alive, but are given a second chance to redeem themselves, and are reincarnated into a hellflame scarred version of their former selves. Think Spawn. They would be their own race, but would have two subraces, not unlike the suggested 3.5 dragonborn of Bahamut conversion having three. The hellbred chooses either Body or Spirit. Unfortunately, Devil-Touched feats don't exist, so the "Body" would need to be adjusted. Runners Up: The psionic races (Complete Psionic and Expanded Psionics) - Synad, elan, xeph, and maenad. These would be great, but we don't have actual psionic classes (yet). This would also open up the half-giant and thri-kreen subraces that were psionic powered. You could make non-psionic versions of each race, and then expand them later, but it wouldn't feel that authentic.
I was thinking about how to do a Continent in my setting based on Dragons, and, thanks to this video, I discovered about the Spellscales and plan to use it. Thanks!
I think each meditation for the spell scale should have its baseline proficiencies. Then as a racial feat it would enhance each one to give a metamagic with a limited number of uses maybe proficiency modifier or cha modifier
Lupin: I don't see Dexterity being particularly dog like. Perhaps Constitution and Charisma (dogs are sociable) bonuses? They should get the ability to track by scent along with the advantage on Perceptions rolls using scent or hearing. Pack tactics would also fit the stereotype.
Thri-kreen (not sure if 3.5) would top out my list. To be blunt we already have a rainbow of elves we don't need more. Nicter and dog race definitely needed. I wouldn't even give the base dog race anything it would just have a dozen subraces.
Ironically, Darfellan have been converted to 5e by a fan who published them on the DM's Guild, as one of their expansions for the Forgotten Realms subsetting of Anchorome (Pre-Columbian North America analogue).
The two races we'd most like to see in 5E are the Cansin from Dragon magazine (basically Aasimar & Tieflings but for faeries), and the Asherati from sandstorm (Bio-luminescent hydrophobic sand people). We'd also really love to see a party with both an Asherati and a Locatha. It's a moisture based odd couple! One will die if they stay dry, one will die if they get wet; together they raid dungeons and fight dragons!
@@project4061 Yes. Also shorter videos take less processing time. So post a long vid, it processes, post a short one. That finishes first, then the big one, and viola.
I'm adding Asabi and Grinth to my game, set in Anauroch. I may also be adding the Dragonborn of Bahamut! Some good stuff in older editions. I don't play with racial ASI's, so it makes it even easier.
I loved the Killoren from *Races of the Wild* and the 2e Lupin (yay, Mystara!) were always fun counters to the Rakasta, especially in the *Red Steel* setting! The rest of these races are a bit "meh" for my tastes and don't really bring anything new to the tabletop.
Lupin should be +2 con and +1 strength, perception and nature and they get move 35 and get a bite/claw as d6 as a bonus action. Dragonborn of B are a class of dragon Sorcerer. but I would remove a lot of the not caring about family or emotion cause that is a invitation to abuse. Ghost elves need a reworking (Gish means they don’t age) but they are a nice thing to think about.
Viletooth lizardfolk from dragon magic in that 3.5 book there was a draconic subrace for most chromatic and metallic dragon these creatures have more dragon blood heritage then a dragon sorcerer but not as much as a dragon born... they were like 1/8 dragon but could track their heritage to the dragon that was their great grandparent The vile tooth lizardfolk were related to black dragons. silver brow humans were related to silver dragons. Deepwyrm drow were related to purple/deep dragons. Fire blood dwarves were related to red dragons. Forest lord elf/halfelf were related to green dragons. Stone hunter gnomes were related to copper dragons. Glimmerskin haflings were related to gold dragons. Sun scorched hobgoblins were related to blue dragons. And frost blood orc/ halforc were related to white dragons.
For those wondering, his number 1 choice has a compromise in the game already called 'Half-dragon'. It just isn't as unbalanced as the 'Dragonborn' is from 3.5.
Those are completely different. We had half-dragons in 3.5e too, they are vastly different. A half-dragon is more often than not the offspring of a humanoid and a dragon in human form. That is very different from devoting yourself to a wholly good dragon god and them blessing you with being reborn in their image. Also half-dragons don't get to choose their breath weapon type and more often than not, don't have wings.
@@NerdImmersion The wings and choosing breathweapon are the imbalances I was talking about. Half dragon in 5e can be a ritual of using blood of a dragon usually. I actually ran a campaign where I made a dragon transform its minions to half dragon monsters slowly over years with the help of cultists. I didnt say it was a replacement though if you reread, I did say compromise.
I feel like if we have to ask if its "dog enough" its clearly not. Plus shifters don't have to be dog based. In fact i think the original descriptions from the 3.5e Eberron guide said something like: "Like cats they have wide flat noses with large eyes, pointed ears and claw-like nails on both their toes and fingers."

No, they were not part of Forgotten Realms or any setting officially. They are an unofficial race that never was included in any setting.
My own Top 10 list that I'd like to see in 5e:
10) Half-giant (Expanded Psionics) - Give us some glorious Dark Sun.
Thanks!
Simic Hybrid have some glid Feature and Theros Satyr is shown with a Glider
I want Myconids, Thri-Kreen, Hengeyokai, and *good* Genasi.
Great video. I’d love to see a sequel to this with more great 3.5 races we’re missing out on.
WoW! You really are motivated man, I appreciate your commitment to your vids.
I hope you’re getting enough sleep!
So many great races to come back from 3.5 and 4
Dog people can be shifters or even gnolls
Wow they really did make 5e dragonborn buttcheeks compared to 3e dragonborn
Honestly I think races are one of the few areas that 5e has given us a good number of.
That said, bring back shardminds and devas.
Shardminds for sure.
Deffintly a really unique race.
I think the conversion from 4e to 5e wouldn't be to bad.
Might just have to tweak some stuff.
I really want Illumian, Mongrelfolk, and Spellscale. All of them were just so unique in either mechanics or roleplay.
The Deck of Many's Humblewood setting has winged races that cannot fly but do glide. I really like how they've implemented.
Lupins should have pack tactics
The plant people are similar to silvari in gw2
The two races we'd most like to see in 5E are the Cansin from Dragon magazine (basically Aasimar & Tieflings but for faeries), and the Asherati from sandstorm (Bio-luminescent hydrophobic sand people).
We'd also really love to see a party with both an Asherati and a Locatha. It's a moisture based odd couple! One will die if they stay dry, one will die if they get wet; together they raid dungeons and fight dragons!
6 minutes between videos, I think that’s a new record.
This poor guy 😅
Does he sleep
Think you can set up when something's uploaded.
@@project4061 Yes. Also shorter videos take less processing time. So post a long vid, it processes, post a short one. That finishes first, then the big one, and viola.
Bat person (#3).. just to be able to say.. I’m Batman!
Have you considered doing a video about the character options in Exploring Eberron? I really respect your thoughts about balance and whatnot
@4:50 vegepygmy plant camouflage ability in ToA
I'm adding Asabi and Grinth to my game, set in Anauroch. I may also be adding the Dragonborn of Bahamut! Some good stuff in older editions. I don't play with racial ASI's, so it makes it even easier.
I wish Lupin were a thing...I can bring my Worgen Hunter into the D&D world!
I like the Wemics. Think Lyonel from Zelda but all lion
Geez pumping these out like crazy lately. Don't tire yourself out man.
Dragon Magazine is official unless something they published has been reprinted with an errata.
This is history, not controversy.
I'm want gnolls that aren't mindless predators.
Hyenas are cool.
Sad that Ratfolk didnt make the list.
I want to play a Modron...
Honestly, Darfellan, Lupins, Ghost Elves, and honestly any new Dragonborn seem to be the most interesting out of all of these.
Viletooth lizardfolk from dragon magic in that 3.5 book there was a draconic subrace for most chromatic and metallic dragon these creatures have more dragon blood heritage then a dragon sorcerer but not as much as a dragon born... they were like 1/8 dragon but could track their heritage to the dragon that was their great grandparent
The vile tooth lizardfolk were related to black dragons.
silver brow humans were related to silver dragons.
There are no dog races? Isn't the Shifter from Eberron dog enough?
I feel like if we have to ask if its "dog enough" its clearly not. Plus shifters don't have to be dog based. In fact i think the original descriptions from the 3.5e Eberron guide said something like: "Like cats they have wide flat noses with large eyes, pointed ears and claw-like nails on both their toes and fingers."
You could a deer based shifter, crocodile, armadillo, etc. The wolf/dog based idea seems like the lamest option in my mind
5E doesnt have spellcraft checks, but there is Arcana which is the same thing.
