    I just LOVE Mozart and his piano concerto nr 17 is one of my favorites! Especially the third movement is very special to me. During a diffiicult time this movement helped me and gave me strenght and hope! Pure JOY !! Thank you for sharing!!

    i completely agree, concerto 22 is my favorite mozart piano concerto and it is usually forgotten for the more famous 23.

    The sound of both oerchestra and soloist is very nice. They ideally complement each other. the tempos appear me the right ones, in synergy with Mozart's music and expression.

    The sound is lovely and the tempo is about right, not sped up as some commenters have stated.
    However, the pitch is about a semitone too high, so that the music appears to be in the key of A Flat instead of G.
    User "Sviolinist" is correct about the pitch being lower in Mozart's time, but he/she is mistaken about the effect: if the piece were being performed with instruments tuned to the "standard" pitch of Mozart's time, it would appear to our ears to be in G Flat, a semitone lower, not in A Flat, a semitone higher. (A semitone is a "half-step" to Americans, BTW).

    I'm quite certain that this is Alfred Brendel (piano) and Neville Marriner (conductor), Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. I heard that performance in another youtube video (which later disappeared), and it sounded identical to this.

    For about three years Mozart kept a pet starling. The opening theme of the third movement of his Piano Concerto No. 17 in G, K. 453 is presumably whta he taught to the bird to sing. According to Mozart's transcription, the starling incorrectly inserted a fermata on the last beat of the first full measure, and sang G sharp instead of G in the following measure.

    Ah, excuse my ignorance for this genre of music but I've been listening to this for minutes and it relaxes me. I have heard that Mozart's pieces does have some effect on us depending on our circumstances so may I ask what does this piece do?

    I believe they tuned closer to 442 in Mozarts time opposed to todays 440.....they tuned higher not lower.

    So if this orchestra tuned to the pitch of Mozart's time this would sound like G# or A flat.. a half step higher.

    It's kinda annoying how this recording is in A-flat major not G major... I have trouble following my score

      You have perfect pitch. Snap out of it. It's not in A-flat it's in detuned G. You know, Mozart's real key. You're basically saying "I don't like how Mozart heard it. Sounds stupid."

    The tuning of Mozart's day was lower. G major is closer to a modern Ab in sound.

      Mozart would never write a piano concerto in A flat major. At the end of the day G major in Mozart's day was closer to our A flat major (modern tuning)
