Here's a thing you might not know: most of those "flickering" flame effect lights animate the flame effect by using a very special signal source - Chinese jingle song generators! if you connected a speaker you could hear music! you can even "pick up" the light using a light dependent resistor and amplify it! Those jingle chips are used because of how cheap they are - cheaper than making a dedicated "flame" chip. Hope someone found that fact fun!
Man I really love this channel, he actually reviews them good & doesn’t just unbox them just to talk about them. Already done purchases because of him.
I'm 78 years old, that being said I remember when Bell and Howell was the best movie projectors and cameras. Now Bell and Howell stands for "Don't buy me I am junk." Maybe not the same company? Anyway, I liked the Hudson best with Omicoo a very close second. Last was Bell and Howell. Good video! 👍
This has happened to many companies - they declare bankruptcy and have to sell off assets. Sometimes the new owner will continue their product line, sometimes they just want the patents, and sometimes they just want to acquire the name to market cheap generic crap under.
I am 34 and I was thinking, "Dang I Bell and Howell made some good quality stuff now that just sell their name to junk". Sadly, this has happened to many companies like Blaupunkt and Dual as well.
Would you be willing to put these on your front porch and show us what they look like from the curb or sidewalk distance? Does the flicker effect go away at distance?
Now I imagine As Seen On TV selling cultist book on how to do stanic ritual and Freakin' Reviews did review on the book. "And now we going to summon Beelzebub, let see how well this ritual work"
When you're buying multiple you robably want to combine the Hudson and the Omicoo. That way their pattern won't synchronise when you switch both on at the same time.
Your a great reviewer , and you save people $$ by doing these reviews, because the infomercials try to hype up the product they sell, when they know it is junk, thank you for what you do
I think the 1st one looked the most like a flame type light. I like the 3rd one because it had some flame effect but not as much as the 1st one. I do not like the looks of either the 2nd or the 4th (Bell & Howell)... tie for last.
My favorite would be the Omicoo. Modes aside it's simply the one that flickers the least, so you could actually read something next to it. More of a candle effect than a fireplace effect, which makes complete sense for a light fixture.
Yknow I never buy any of the products reviewed, nor do I need them. But I have to say I don’t miss a single video. I love watching your vids, there’s something mesmerizing about all of your videos and the way you review products! Love you James keep up the amazing work
I picked omicoo. I liked the look of the Hudson a tiny bit more, but the omicoo with the 4 modes and best of all, they come in a 2 pack won out for me.
Hudson for the win for me, that 2nd one looks like the fake flame my electric fake fire place puts off lol I don't like the Belle and Howl it's just flickering not a Flame look at all and I just want one for my outside light, I'd think these would not attract bugs in the summer since they're yellow :).. What was Bailey's pick?
Of the ones I've tried, the Hudsons are my favorite so far--relatively bright and natural motion--and they have a range of packages available. I was able to easily mod their rechargeable ones for beautiful stage props. That Lumiereholic one was... different. With the flame cutout shapes I guess it could work for some niche purpose.
It's difficult to actually see the effect of those bulbs from a camera perspective, but I thought the Omicoo looked the best because it actually had what looked like a flame of gas that floated upwards while dissipating. And the second best was the Hudson.
I've tried 2 brands, Luxon and Eco-LED. The bulbs are pretty much identical, and look almost identical to the omicoo in your review. Both are 4 mode bulbs (including upside-down mode). Both have very good flame effects. The thing that bothers me about them is that they are both slightly pinkish-orange. It's a very strange color. I would like them to be more yellow-orange, like a real flame. On camera they appear much more yellow than they are live, so photos and videos are deceptive. I still like them well enough, but I look forward to the technology getting better in the next few years.
Mr. Boma's Balloons, HEY! I didn’t know about those other 2 brands, but you bring up an interesting question now. I’m thinking you could color the bulb color if you can find a heat resistant dye...like maybe a resin dye or something. If you colored the cover an amber or yellow color, I bet the flame would look better,, eh?
Just a suggestion when you take them out of the box put the box in front of the lamp to distinguish them. Great review. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
I would really like to see these reviewed with some sort of lamp shade. It really makes a difference in the way light is thrown, and (IMO) is a fairer review because most consumers would be using a shade.
I own the Omicoo one. I bought them for my outside lights for Halloween. They looked very cool, however I wouldn’t recommend as a normal outside light as it is much dimmer than a normal bulb, and this one was even the brightest I could find. Would definitely look cool as accent lighting indoors, but I only used for Halloween and packed them away. I also never used the other modes, which I regret, because that “breathing” mode looked cool. Next time I unpack them I will have to do so.
I don't have any plans on ever getting a light bulb like that, but I sat here and watched an almost 10 minute video because I like watching your videos.
You’re a rock star in my book. I love the look of flame bulbs, but don’t see them as very practical for use in my little world. I love the little tea light size ones, though, for decorative effect around holidays. Thank you, James!
I have tried the Omicoo and one similar to the hudson that was available at my local hardware store. First off the camera doesn't show how great these look in person. Second both the Omicoo and hudson do look amazing you have to consider the fixture you will be putting it in. The downside of the Omicoo for me was the tall white base it has compared to the others and its overall height.
Foremost, I want to express my appreciation to you for doing all the legwork you do on reviewing all these products. It is a valuable service. As for this one, it's the Hudson for me.
So do you have to turn the multi-mode lights on and off every time you want to use them if you only want to be using the flame mode? Also are any of them dimmable?
I agree with you, Hudson 1st, Omico 2nd and the other two I just don't care for at all. I think the Hudson looks the best and the ability to install it upside down and it still look like a minecraft torch mounted on the wall is pretty cool. I want to install a few for outdoor party times. Thanks for making this, I sometimes dont like being swamped with choices I never know which one to buy.
What happened to the Bell and Howell bulb? Used to see them in Walmart all the time, now they are gone and no where to be found. Personally, they looked the best in my setting. I still have a couple squirreled away, but I would like to find more
I like the lumiereholic the best as it looks the most like an actual flame. The others don't really look like flames to me, but that might be because of them being on camera instead in person. We have one of those electric fireplaces with the pretend flames and it reminds me of that, which I love.
So happy by how much your channel has grown! I remember subscribing after one of your first reviews. I don’t buy anything but i love the energy of your channel. Can’t wait to see where you go.
I have a couple that I use for the patio, I bought them through the catalog on Hawaiian airlines and really enjoy them. Lately I have tried to go solar wanting to use them in some special fixtures that I have purchased for my patio unfortunately unavailable except for sealed units.
Would be nice to show them outdoors and see how the look in a realistic setting. Are the meant for outside? I think that is the main purpose fr buying them. Good review but how will a few look on your garden path, patio, deck?
I think the mistake you are making is that these should be put in some sort of open shade or cover and thus you might want the brighter if your shade is or light is dense or frosted.
I don’t like that you have to turn it off and on to cycle through the modes on the omicoo. If you have it on a switch, would you have to turn it off and on 4 times to get to your preferred mode?
Shot in the dark here... looking for some flame bulbs that aren't so orange. Love these, but they color is a bit much. Anyone have any suggestions for a more natural flame color?
Nice! I've been looking forward to this review. I've been wanting to purchase them for myself. I'm so thankful that you continue to do honest reviews for us. Thanks so much, and give Baily all my love and kisses 💜
Yeah its probably the most realistic. But I don't think many people have a lot of experience using flame for light. Natural flame is really wild and inconsistent and the Hudson totally nails it
I bought the Omicoo bulbs (4 pack) and I was so excited to finally get them. Upon plugging one into a lamp to test, I was sadly disappointed that the color wasn't a flame color at all - it was PINK! I thought maybe it was the color of the lamp shade or the wall paint in the room so I tried them outside with 2 bulbs in my porch lights where I hoped to use these and they were still PINK! I tried taking pictures or video with my phone and the craziest thing was I could not get the pink to show at all. It looked prefect on video or picture. I left them on for hours hoping they may changed after use but nope, never changed. So my only complaint is color, the way it worked and the direction change when flipped was great. But I don't want a flickering pink light on my porch, lol. Attempting to return.
I would think you would not use it the ball by itself but have it in a container of some sort, might not make a difference between the bulbs. I bought one bulb but it didn't work, I tore it apart and the wire running to the tip of the screw connector was not attached! I like to know how that got pass inspection...
I saw a review of that product on household hacker youtube channel, and it does look great. I’m glad I have some on hand, as I’ve used it only for cleaning kitchen counter tops. Looks like it works well on a lot of stuff!
OMG, I use it for everything! I've gotten grease stains out of clothes that have gone through the dryer. I've gotten my parents' walls with 20 years of tobacco smoke completely white again. I've taken my vinyl mini blinds & soaked them in Awesome water in the tub, and rinsed them off - no more dusting them! That stuff is Awesome!
Looking at how the light illuminates the bases of the lamps, I'd say the Hudson is the most pleasing. The other ones are a little too flickery for my taste.
There was a very nice Fiet brand during the holidays at Home Depot. Was very much like the Husdon as near as I can tell. Same shape, same effect, and single mode, but with orientation correction.
I think the Hudson was the best. The one with 4 modes is a neat idea but if you have it plugged into a light fixture each time you turn in the switch it will be in a different mode. The bulb should have a dedicated mode switch so it will stay the same each time it's turned on.
Just an FYI. I have had two of the Luminiereholic flame bulb for over 2 years now and I like the realism of the flame in it much better than the rest (which I also have used). All the rest have dot LED's in them which you can see if you get right up to it. The luminiereholic looks the best up close by far.
I've been trying to find one like that but can't find them ? 😢 Do u know if there called a different type? The other ones all like blurry and the same .
@@ThreeDe The ones I have came from Amazon but they do not come up anymore when I searched for them. Mine is like a hologram that cycles through quite a few flame sequence images and on a loop. It was way more realistic than the LED ones that have LED dots in them but I lost one of three I had and am down to two now and I have yet to find an equivalent.
@@ThreeDe The saddest part (which I am sure that you have found out is that most of the LED flame bulb adds are misleading because they are faking the images in the adds. They look nothing like the flame shown because they photoshopped the image.
If I want a fireplace or a torch look, I would go with one of these. However, if I want to emulate a candle flame, then none of them, as a properly trimmed candle wick, and if the candle is not standing in a breeze, the flame does not flicker. That said, I would go with the Hudson. And withthat said, thank you for another great review!
I've been trying to find one like #2 but can't find them ? 😢 Does any one know if there called a different type? The other ones all like blurry and the same
Hey, thought I’d let y’all know that I looked in Amazon at the winner bulb just to see what it costs. I noticed that they offer a blue color flame bulb as well, which I think would be ultra-neat at Halloween time as a porch light. I went ahead and ordered a 2 pack of the blue flame ones!
I like the Hudson first and the rest same as you. That one that looks like a little fire is cute. Charming. Lol. I want one. Thanks for the great review.
Yeah, I see this and have to wonder why. Oh well, I'm sure a lot of people will be happy with their flame bulbs like they are with their fake fireplaces.
In the year that the first 60 watt LED light bulb appeared on Amazon for $80, I wanted LEDs for their energy efficiency. However, I was an early adopter of the compact fluorescent bulbs when they were over $20 each and so I knew to wait for prices to come down. Anyway, in those early LED years I bought a .3 watt flicker LED color-changing nightlight from Walgreens for about $6. It flickers and fades in and out and imparts a kind of life to the ambience in a room, especially at night. At that time, I thought, wouldn't it be great if they could make one of these to look like firelight? The reviewer is looking at these in terms of what looks the most flame-like, and that is definitely a consideration if you are using it in an outdoor lamp you want to look like a gaslight or candle. However, there's another use. Put behind something or in a corner not in direct view, how much does it look like real dancing firelight in a room? That is what I want, that cozy indirect firelight effect. And I just say "Hey Google, play fireplace sound" to my Google Home mini and there is a nice crackling fireplace that will play all night if you want. The sound transforms the light to something a lot better than light alone, which can look like faulty wiring. I am smoke sensitive. I can't have a wood stove, so these lights are the next best thing. So yesterday I received my first 2/$10 LED flame effect Ebay bulbs and they are just okay. They were advertised on Ebay as being made by Lumiereholic by the seller, but they are not as nice as the Lumiereholic bulb you show or the other videos of this brand bulb, so I'm disappointed. Instead, they are narrower, and small. For anyone who wants to see if they like the ambience of a flame effect bulb in their room before buying one, there are RUclips videos of fireplaces, some that last hours. Just put one on and turn the room lights off and relax. I captured some fireplace videos off RUclips, and they are nice to play but I don't want to play my TV or computer for hours at night just for that ambience. If you keep your room or house on the cold side during the winter to save energy, as I do, a flame effect bulb can even generate a warming placebo effect. Again, don't stare at it. It's not going to look like a real fire or have the beauty of a candle flame. But the flickering ambience is pretty close. I think mine flickers a little too fast, and might be a little more blinky than I'd like, but I'm not sure. I'll have to do some experiments with videos of fireplaces to compare. I'd like one where you could control the flicker rate and other parameters but haven't read of them making those. Anyway, if someone out there bought a flame effect bulb they love, and they're familiar with the ambience from firelight, I'd appreciate you telling me the brand/model. I am going to read more about the one the reviewer here liked.
I have the omicoo for both my porch light and the light outside of my garage (exterior) and absolutely love them. My friends liked them too and ordered some for themselves
Great review James! I have a question. Does the Omicoo cycle to the next effect each time it gets power? I have outdoor lights on a timer and would want it to lock in the upside-down mode when it turns on each night.
When he started having his children on I was like, “Oh lord! Like we want this dribble!” But then his Son’s name was Brad and I said, “That’s my name!” And I become much more invested the dribble.
Most Realistic Flame Effect: Bell + Howell I do a lot of working with fire, and this one easily has the most realistic flame flicker effect. Unfortunately, it's a case that's similar to fake blood for props, where the real stuff doesn't necessarily look best. It also gets props for being the brightest on the list. Best Looking Flame Effect: Hudson This is defiantly going to be the one I would buy if I wanted a flame effect in my electrolier. It easily looks the best, while still looking really bright. Most Versatile: Omicoo Okay, so this is easily the most overrated one, and my *least* favorite. To start, it has *3* modes, not 4. The animation flipping is not another mode. Secondly, only two of the modes will ever be used, as the "breathing" effect has no use. What I *do* like though, is that it actually has a regular light mode, easily making it the most useful of the group, as it has a non-decorative use. Least Harsh: Lumierholic This one's actually my second favorite. Why? Because it isn't super bright. All the other options actually seem better fitted to overhead lighting becaue of their brightness. This one is the one that I would use in my table lamps, as it's not overly bright like all the others, and you wouln't see the fake-ness it gives off under the shade. Also, please test lights using shades next time if you're testing in a lamp, as that's how they're going to be seen for 99% of the time.
Is there a video of someone showing this? I would love to see it.
i thought it was a row of led lights program to do a flame pattern. not sure about the song you mention. i would like to see a link that you mention.
@@cameranmanner4701 something has to control which LEDs get turned on. That's how they do it!

Hey dude why not review insoles or orthodics? Like good step or walk fit?
There was a very nice Fiet brand during the holidays at Home Depot. Was very much like the Husdon as near as I can tell. Same shape, same effect, and single mode, but with orientation correction.
Thank you for the demos, I just bought one on line just don't know at the moment which I hope it's the 3rd one that's the one I liked.
Ya they don't seem to sell them like that anymore 😭
@@ThreeDe The saddest part (which I am sure that you have found out is that most of the LED flame bulb adds are misleading because they are faking the images in the adds. They look nothing like the flame shown because they photoshopped the image.
Great video. I would have liked to see the bulbs in some sort of glass sconce though.
I agree with you. Hudson then Omicoo however the lumiere was trash
what about the feit sold in stores
Does the Omicoo come in different colors?
Are the modes random? If you had more than one connected, you might end up with a challenge to get them on the same mode at the same time.
Is the Hudson ok for outside?
If I want a fireplace or a torch look, I would go with one of these. However, if I want to emulate a candle flame, then none of them, as a properly trimmed candle wick, and if the candle is not standing in a breeze, the flame does not flicker. That said, I would go with the Hudson. And withthat said, thank you for another great review!
I've been trying to find one like #2 but can't find them ? 😢 Does any one know if there called a different type? The other ones all like blurry and the same
I liked the Omico because the flame would actually separate at the top of the bulb at times...making the flame effect looking the most realistic...
Power Smokeless Gril is it new olr old seen on tv grill not sure what id use one bulb for
Hey, thought I’d let y’all know that I looked in Amazon at the winner bulb just to see what it costs. I noticed that they offer a blue color flame bulb as well, which I think would be ultra-neat at Halloween time as a porch light. I went ahead and ordered a 2 pack of the blue flame ones!
Great video. Been thinking about getting some of these and now I know which to get!! Thanks for sharing!!
Hudson. Where can I get one?
Nice Video James. Do You have any Hue Lightbulbs? I would love some reviews of the "as seen on TV" off brands of those.
What is the name of the first bulb please
I like the Hudson first and the rest same as you. That one that looks like a little fire is cute. Charming. Lol. I want one. Thanks for the great review.
I got the omicoo that says I can get different color after sync with bluetooth. Need help can you make a video?
I used Hudson on my garages this year for Halloween and people loved them
I went back to the '60's listening to very loud rock and roll and having the lights flickering. God, I'm old!
At face value this light bulb trend is cool, but I can't think of anywhere in my house I'd put one and not get terribly annoyed by it after a day.
Yeah, I see this and have to wonder why. Oh well, I'm sure a lot of people will be happy with their flame bulbs like they are with their fake fireplaces.
That was my thought as well. Cool, but why?
I would use this outdoors in a pole lamp.
@@jpisello I've thought of that but don't want to deal with people calling the fire department lol.
I don't see these as something you'd use all the time, though you could make a fairly decent fake fire place if you were so inclined.
My DIO hand....🤣 Rock on, dude! 😊🤘
The Hudson is definitely the best, I'm not there in person but it does seem the warmest and has a better animation.
Now, how long do they last?
I bought the As seen on TV one from Menards. Turned it on and it's not flickering at all and a little smoke is coming our the top.
I wish you showed them outside and how they lit up the patio!
Great review James! I have a question. Does the Omicoo cycle to the next effect each time it gets power? I have outdoor lights on a timer and would want it to lock in the upside-down mode when it turns on each night.
I believe it cycles through each time you turn it on/off, but if you leave it off for 45 seconds, it'll reset to flame mode when you turn it on.
@@Freakinreviews Thanks. Very helpful.
This is one of the coolest channels on RUclips. So cool.
Hudson vs Omicoo
Which one looks realer?
When he started having his children on I was like, “Oh lord! Like we want this dribble!” But then his Son’s name was Brad and I said, “That’s my name!” And I become much more invested the dribble.
I was literally just lookin' at buyin' a bulb like this! Ty fer the timely review.
I find the Hudson appears the most "flame like", but I love that "fade in/out" mode on the omnicoo. The other two just suck.
