Rachael Cook, Audiology Doctor, always so positive and upbeat. Look forward to her every presentation.
Such a valuable information with detailed steps to make it happen. Amazingly useful! Thank you, Dr. Cook
I had no idea this was possible. Thank you.
Thank you for keeping us up to date on new tech! I am also interested to know which hearing aids with bluetooth can take advantage of fast switching from low to higher power when a phone call starts. I think this is part of bluetooth 5.3.
Thanks for the heads up about NAL Scribe. How well do these free captioning technologies work in the presence of competing noise?
You should consider doing a video on the in-call features built into iOS specifically: voice isolation, which makes a big difference to speech intelligibility in supported calls. Most people don't know how to access this feature nor which types of calls support it, but I couldn't recommend it more. I can do the dishes while talking a the person on the other end has no idea. If only hearing aids had voice isolation as an option.
PS: Great work on the videos so far Dr Cook. Don't be afraid to develop your own style and language for the intros for the videos.
Love the iOS16 live captioning feature you shared. I will try to remember to use it during meetings. I am sure I miss a lot but sometimes you don't even know what you're missing.
Wow having difficulties understanding conversation thank you
I have found that captioning is far from accurate, especially if a member of the conversation has a strong accent. I have not tried Otter so I am eager to try it. Also, I just updated to iOS 16 and was unaware of the new captioning features. Thank you. 🙏🏻
AI is making it better and better! I bet it’s only a couple more years until it’s perfected!
Curious to test these with braille displays. The page or transcript can’t refresh constantly or the braille reader will lose there place. There also has to be a tranmission speed adjustment so the reader can keep up. This is true with IP relay from Sprint.
Thanks Doc. I'm profound/severe and basically always have cc turned on watching TV, but live captioning during meetings will be amazing! Just ordered my new Sonic aids with BT so I'm looking forward to it!
Thanks Dr Cook!
Thank you so much for this information. I’m going to see my audiologist about it. Robyn from Australia
I had a look at NAL scribe and it is amazing . I can show the screen to some one who can’t understand me, so I won’t need to write notes any more. Thank you
Thank you so much for a lot of hard working making this valuable information including the long list of compatible iPhones and iPads. Could you please make a video on them how to use them. I’ll helpful to lots of users. God Bless You!
Brilliant - thank you
incredible. Thanks
Will captioning work in a noisy environment like a crowded restaurant?
Thanks!
Thanks Rachael great video, but the ios 16 live capture not available in the UK, yet.
Ah yes!! I’m sorry, I forgot to add that it’s in Beta testing and may not be available for all users in all countries.
Thanks for the information on live Close Caption options. I'm a big fan of Close Caption. I use Close Caption for all my TV and Movie Theater viewing, since it makes it possible for me to fully enjoy the story when I can follow the dialogue. I think Live Captions work pretty good when you have good speaker and a good environment. I tested the Live Captions, with your dialogue since you have a good clear voice. It did pretty good but Live Captions froze up when your speech got to be too fast for it to keep up with (just my conclusion). I can keep up with you using the Close Caption embedded in your RUclips video which appear to be perfect (I assume this is because you inserted the text). I have a iPhone 13 mini and wonder if a version 14 is needed for its extra processing power to keep it from freezing up. I have a home phone that uses Close Caption and its been helpful, but it includes an assistant correcting the mistakes the computer makes in converting the voice to text. Sometime though even the assistant doesn't get it right (I can tell because it doesn't make sense in the context). There is also has some time lag so, I need to inform the person listening to me that I reading the Close Caption and it hasn't caught up yet. I'll be experimenting more with "Live Captions" out in the field. Thanks again.
Hi - That was really useful - many thanks from the UK. On another matter, in the US how many film theaters show subtitled/captioned screenings? Here in the UK my local multiplex only show one subtitled film a week! THE RNID (the UK deaf charity) have written to the UK Cinema Association and it must have fallen on "deaf" ears - I myself have written to the owners of my local multiplex - again it fell on deaf ears. If I was physically disabled and I was only offered access to one film a week, then the theater would fall foul of our disability legislation - why should we as deaf people be so discriminated? BTW IOS 16 Live Captions are not available in the UK
Thanks for the info.
Is this possible in a music concert setting? My daughter and I have been attending many concerts and I’m tired of struggling to hear the words to the songs. I’m used to CC with TV, etc. I’m really missing this part of the concerts, altho loving the base and live music- being able to feel (hear) it throughout my body is incredible.
Thanks again.
good evening! I'm from Argentina and I did a translator for an app (I hope you understand me), I've also been deaf since I was born. I've been watching your videos and seeing which one to update my hearing aid with, because with this I hear almost 90% and now my question is if there is one that takes my cell phone via Bluetooth to listen to music, it's like the headphones they use on the street. None of them worked for me with the headphones, that's why I ask if I can listen to music with my Bluetooth headset without disturbing another person on public transport, do they exist? And if it exists, what makes and models are there? Thank you! and I follow them
Hi! I find the Bluetooth is great but the smartphone is terrible because of Static. However unless there’s cc on the smartphone available.
Is this only available in the USA I live in the UK?
What are the latest developments in the movie industry. Do any theaters have Bluetooth or closed captioning?
Yes - movies have captioning devices for check-out. However, they often fail or do not align with the dialogue. Some theaters do play movies with subtitles for special showings!
Hi, I have 16.1.1 on my iphone 11 but cant find Live Captioning Beta. Do you have to install the Beta?
(I have a Stroke, Aphasia, and mild ear hearing aid)
my android, “Line Transcribe app”
How do to speech is converted to text documents?
Hello, I just returned from a visit with my VA audiologist. During the course of my visit, I asked him about " Amp Cross technology" and which HA manufactures would have that technology available. He indicated that he was not familiar, and in fact had never heard of it. Am I missing something? Thank You
Bill - definitely go check out our podcast episode on the Dr. Cliff AuD channel about Single-sided deafness! You may need to seek out a provider who has experience with these losses as they are uncommon.
Captioning does help but it is not good enough. There is no reason that the captioning on pre-recorded content is not perfect. I challenge anyone at the FCC to try to watch just about any show on TV with the volume muted.
using CC is very convinient but it may contribute to lower speach recognition in a long run
Just tried it. Does not work with phone conversation.
What phone do you have?
@@DrCliffAuD iphone13 max pro. I think it’s not working because sound is Bluetooth’d to my hearing aids.
I just want a mic so i can hear my landline phone. Cellphones don't work every where.
Any hearing healthcare provider can certify you for a captioned telephone through the ADA such as CaptionCall or Captel. They will install for you + provide landline connection if you don’t have one.
How ironic that the audio quality on this video is so poor!
Great content, but the title is horribly misleading…
Thanks!
Thanks!
