    Hello and congratulations for your work and patience
    Especially since I know the problem and the risk of tearing the motherboard.
    I wanted to ask you what is the liquid that you put on the solder points before setting up the capacitor. Finally, I regret not having seen the final result of the reception of the waves after repair in the video. thanks anyway

      Thanks. I believe I did demonstrate it in a later video. The liquid I used was flux. Here's the link cpc.farnell.com/warton/315-0-5l-bottle/315-noclean-flux-1-2-litre/dp/SD00085?mckv=s_dc|pcrid|605262956863|kword||match||plid||slid||product|SD00085|pgrid|138313689055|ptaid|pla-1732003759345|&CMP=KNC-GUK-CPC-SHOPPING-9262013734-138313689055-SD00085&s_kwcid=AL!5616!3!605262956863!!!network}!1732003759345!&gclid=Cj0KCQjwx5qoBhDyARIsAPbMagBxzylo-bIsNoRJ7sf7S8Caan9Xw3T7EOGG1r392s7uVfm2u6qVYRIaAjrmEALw_wcB

    Interesting. What I didn't understand about this is why is it necessary to change the capacitors as they would seem to be fairly modern and if it is Sony I would expect they use high quality ones that don't tend to go bad.

      Hi Mike. These early smd electrolytics are very prone to leaking. If left in they will damage the board. I tested some in situ and they were pretty bad. Luckily I got to them in time and there was no damage to the board

    Hello, i have 2, and changed the capacitors, but one of them has a muffled sound in the medium wave! Do you know what could be happening? Thanks

      Hi. It’s likely that there’s board damage depending on how much corrosion there was. Check the voltages in the AM circuit. Check all the vias for continuity. It’s possible that the trimmer capacitors may have got contaminated so got through the IF adjustment process for medium wave

      Hi. Have the capacitors been changed as this accounts for 99% of the issues with this radio

      It could be that one of the through holes has been corroded away. You will have to go through them all and test with a multimeter for continuity

      I suspect the capacitors are leaking. Have they been replaced before?

    The Sony ICF-SW77 is a smashing radio. Shame about the caps. Still, at the time nobody knew they wouldn't last, due to the improper chemical used back then. :-)

      Hi Aston. Yes these caps seem to all go bad. I am thinking of doing one with tantalums soon so I will be asking your advice. Thanks for watching. Cheers Graham

    Mr Carlson way of removing I’ve been using since I’ve seen him doing it. I’ve seen all his video’s but at the moment he’s not doing very much🥲 the flux your using is it the sticky one ?

    • @Radiocruncher
      @Radiocruncher  3 года назад +1

      Hi Anthony. Mr Carlson is one of my favourite channels. I was a bit sceptical at first but the method seems quick and trouble free. I use the gel type flux which is sticky although I use another one which is a liquid that works well

    I spy the sony chip that looks like the one in the tecsun radio.
    But sony made the propper one :-D

    • @Radiocruncher
      @Radiocruncher  3 года назад +1

      Hi Harvey. Yes I thought that might be the same chip but it’s only 30 pin and the Tecsun is 32

      @@Radiocruncher But there are two pins that appear to do nothing.
      My mate had a similar no station fault on his 660 no 88 to 108 band, after i checked the f.m vco and i.f strip for mixer injection operation, i cleaned the crud off around the pll chip and that helped no end. (its a pll thats common to all bands)
      The ribbon from the main board to controller is very dodgy, i found a crack in it on one of the ribbon tracks.
      The multi detector chip is tiny on this set.
      Sorry waffle mode :-(

      Thanks for the info Harvey. I will revisit the PL660 at some stage as I’d like to get it going
