Don’t know why I shed a tear when Boris says he’s 71 years old and he has no ideal how much longer he has😭😭😭❤️ He has been an inspiration to me since I was a kid❤️
Still in production :). However, wrapping all necessary details up and looking for release in the Spring of 2019. Now available at www.ebay.com/itm/233585915250

Boris illustrated a Battletech novel cover. "Close quarters". Battletech lore is like Dune with giant robot combat and no worms. My favorite book cover. Battletech tabletop game is great. It is like chess with math, very much a simulator on tabletop. I am glad to know that high culture is still a thing. Art brings a heart warming feeling.
I wish i could learn how to paint like this, is just so amazing, the mix of realism with fantasy is amazing
Hello. And thank you for the interest. The film will start screening in September at the Delaware Art Museum on the 24th then during Illuxcon in Ovtober. Please check their sites for scheduling. Thanks again.
Found this project far later than I would've wished - Glad to see someone is putting together a documentary on a subject I love so much. Thank you and good luck on bringing it all together. Definitely looking forward to it!
Collect science fiction and fantasy art books and no one's empire will be as big as yours. No one's adventures will surpass your own, if you but day dream a bit. If you ever stuck in a lockdown again (more coming I think) curl up with fantasy art books and escape the real world for a bit.
These are my favorite art books, all available on Amazon:
- The Art of Rowena by Doris Vallejo
- Infinite Worlds by Vincent DiFate
- Beyond the Horizon by John Harris
- Great Fighter Jets of the Galaxy 1 by Tim Gibson
Excellent idea, but then I'm bias. In high school I wasn't sure if I was going in a more technical direction (engineering) - or art (was thinking wildlife). In retrospect I had a great teacher. She brought in a variety of books. One was called Tomorrow and Beyond. It was the first time I saw Boris's work, Rowena, Darrel K. Sweet, Whelan, Sanjulian, and more. Changed my outlook on art.
Great stuff. 👍
I'm just finding out. As artist and a huge fan of YOUR work as well as EVERYONE mentioned. I'm all in. Hopefully there will be one here in the SF Bay area I can see. I'm so looking forward to it. And oh yeah, subscribed.
My pleasure. I’m glad that you were inspired by these greats. I hope that you will be further inspired by the film which will be out in a couple of months
Yes. In fact, the disc will be ready this spring. Production order placed and will also be available for download.
Best,
William Niemeyer
I'm so waiting for this! I'll pay $50 for this on DVD!

@@camus1957 - thanks. I'm sorry to say that the short run time of 47 minutes is making me hesitant, Bill. The idea for this is great, but I truly was expecting 3-5 hours of footage with the line-up you have. Pondering.
Jerry Fiore the Interview Session segments and deleted scenes exceed the film time and both are quite enjoyable. Best.
Boris, brom, Michael whelan, Hilldabrant bros etc all need to be filmed and recorded for future generations can see their process
I want to make art like them but have never painted or drawn anything.
Hi Timothy,
Update: The film is still in post production and will take the better part of the year until completion before making the Film Festival Circuit. As for distribution? we shall see how things pan out. The movie is shaping up nicely.j
Best,
Bill.
Hello Bill, is this film still being produced?
I am very excited to see it, very excited indeed.
Yes Frank Frazetta was an amazing artist definitely the father of fantasy art
Deep into the editing process at this point and all is looking good
I like the art, great imaginative scenes. could have been an artist myself but I ended up applying my imagination and skill in making things to other areas of life, things to produce food and get work done.
I don’t think most people judge fantasy/illustraion as lesser because of genre. There is plenty of top work such as Herbert Draper, victor vasnetsov, Frank Dicksee, and Waterhouse. Artists like hildebrandt, Easley, Frazetta, Paul Bonner, Daryl Sweet, Parkinson are great. The problem is the genre has too heavy a reliance on copying photographs, which is the opposite of imagination. Vallejo and bell are some of the worst for this.
The people you mentioned are great artist, but you just might want to include the great frank frazetta when talking about great art. R.I.P. frank frazetta.
Daniel , I got to visit his gallery in Pennsylvania, I met his wife and she was just great, she talked about reading the books that Frank was to do the covers for. She would say when "we" done this or that, I heard she was also a model for him as well.
So when I hear of Frank I always think of her as well.
I am sad what the children have done with his gallery.
At the age of around 15 I discovered this art, and thought "is it, fantastic YES, I could draw NOT on this level
In other words, good but not This good. How I envied Boris, cris Achliios frank frazetta etc. Spend £s on books and I copied and copied......
I was never taught how to paint this kind of work in fact "Where do I start?? Now, 49 year later AND still
Love this kind of work.
Thanks
This is going to be awesome. I would love to see them do some of their techniques.
Real American Negro I am pleased to announce the the film is finally available at donatoarts.com.

@@camus1957 thank you. How can i get it brought to colombia?
Now I need to find the film and an update......
I just realized how old this project is, still it's the first I've heard of it. Is the film made and available now in 2021?
I love fantasy art
Leonardo Da Vinci painted the last supper. That is fantasy art and after the Mona Lisa, his most famous painting. I think fantasy art is the most high art but it takes a lot of technique and experience to pull off. Modern art is very expressive an don't need as much skill to pull off, so naturally, more people will be attracted to modern art because it's easier to understand and relate to. Also, most fantasy artists today that are very good can more easily get a job doing it. Instead of the artist getting the credit for the art, the studio or the film or the game where the art was used gets the attention. So fantasy art has become more of design for a purpose rather than a product in itself. But, from the perspective of the artist, fantasy art is a very high form of Art.
Wow just realized the art shown here was used in the Collectable card game Hyborian Gates in the 90s!
Music by Samuel Bisson from the short film, "Nuit Blanche", used by permission. Samuel will be composing an original score for the film.
where and when can i see the film? boris and julie have inspired me to paint ever since i was a kid, as a kid i had the golden axe videogame and loved the cover art painted by boris vallejo since then ive been drawing and painting and now at 26 im at uni studying fine art, i tell my tutors who my inspirations are and about my love for fantasy art and they just dismiss it and would rather me do a installation of any random object and talk crap about it for 40 mins. i wish boris or juile had a school or something. ive learnt more from there books than i have 3 years at uni. they are both so talented, skilled and masters of their art.
Beautiful Art 💕
Will the documentary be available for purchase? Or streaming on a platform? Id love to see it.
Very exciting!
إبدااااع ما بعده ابدااااع 🖒🖒🖒🖒
i like to get the blue ray vision when its available. There is plenty of film makers out there will get insparation from your documentry. Movie posters run on the same theam. of fantasy art. if you look closely at a indiana Jones poster the artist takes great effort to show the texture of Harrison's Ford's hat that can not be reproduced with a photo.
Will Luis Royo be be mentioned?
Very cool, will check this out.
What happened with this one? I would LOVE to see it!!
I am very pleased to announce that the film is now available at donatoarts.com

Hi Bill, has Art of The Fantastic been released yet? I need to get one!
Looks awesome!
Where i can stream this?
Great artists are here! What about Hajime Sorayama?
Has this production EVER BEEN FINISHED?
I'm interested! How can I watch this? buy, pledge? Seems fantastic
Will Frank Frazetta be mentioned?
But of course :).
Bill Niemeyer He is my favorite fantasy artist. I'm now 50 and I remember, as a kid, my father having these paperbacks of Tazan with Frank's artwork on them. I read all of them. Those were my intro into fantasy artwork. D&D came later and all was lost....lol!
Actually, Blaq Ice, the paperbacks, and his work in general, are touched on by various artists in the Frank Frazetta segment. The film does not focus of Franak, of course, but he has made such an impact on the resurgence on contemporary artists of Imaginative Realism and the genre itself that he deserves some focus in the film.
I'm looking forward to this watching this film. Thank you for the response...
My pleasure.
Is this still happening? Where can I get updates on this? I would love to see it!

When I was a teenager I was absolutely astounded by Boris and his artwork and the flesh tones and everything was just so perfect and spectacular and well sexy is sexy gets I've been striving for years to be so good but I think I keep skipping important steps to achieve the results I would like and you can't do that and paint beautifully you have to be patient thank you for producing this for me to watch both for the well erotic artwork LOL and the unbelievable Talent and hard work of artistry I understand I try and I never really had instruction but fortunately I'm not bad I'm told I'm super fantastic but I don't really know every once in awhile something I do I go I don't know how I did that I don't recall I just did it so those are the best ones
When and where will this be released?
Now available at www.ebay.com/itm/233585915250
