"Nah, I'd lose 24 times and draw once" - Osamu Mikumo
Jokes aside this fight also brings up another key point of world trigger - Osamu has to prove HIMSELF capable. It's not just winning as a team that matters. Border as an organization would be perfectly willing to put Chika and Kuga on a team without Osamu, and that creates great low level individual stakes.

    • @ViRo02Cas
      @ViRo02Cas 4 дня назад

I think it will take decades to make a game like that, we there must be the ability to move and tilt all limbs and torso to dodge or attack (Spider field usage of Yuma and Kitora), hitboxes are specifically only in the player's body, debris must have effects to players' movement due to collision (Yuma vs Oji), wide rage of customization on the Range/Damage/Firerate for guns to create Assault Rifles(Inukai), Revolvers(Yuba), Shotguns(Suwa), etc. And the movement of Triggers like Viper (Nasu) and Mantis (Kageura) through the use of the mind.
If anything, a game like Sword Art Online needs to first be made to serve as a starting point or a kind of baseplate for this type of game. A game where you can control your whole body's movement whilst your mind is also thinking inside the game.
Then we can get a World Trigger game, you control your whole body, your mind controls the movement, shooting pathing, mantis pathing, shield placement (important since large shields trade durability for size, and you can be hit in the feet if you just shield your torso and legs, like Kageura during the mall fight), etc.

10/10, 1000% agree, get this guy an award!!! In all honesty, if Osamu had won that fight, it would have been a massive outlier. Kazama is one of Border's best agents, taking part in ***censored for spoilers***. He's good at what he does, and isn't dumb tactically either. He even said after the fight that he was cocky in going for the attack he did that ended the fight in a draw instead of the going for an strategy that would have guaranteed his victory. Osamu is new to his B-rank status and barely has experience with his shield mode, thruster, or asteroid. He's used those only once before this against a Bander; with success, but no real skill either.
The only reason he got the drop on Kazama was those 24 losses showing no real special skills. Kazama didn't overestimate Osamu's power, but he wasn't ready for Osamu to change the battle field into a minefield. He then went with the strategy that had already worked 24 times: blitz him. Osamu, intentionally or not, used that to execute his trap, and give himself the best chance for a win. Kazama was just fast and experienced enough to counter, which Osamu hadn't prepared for due to a lack of experience. This is the first time we see him train against a human opponent, who generally are smarter than your average Neighbor infantry.
All in all, Osamu got the best outcome he reasonably could have given the gap in power, skill, and experience. He capitalized on his ability to know his limits, use his environment, the underestimation of his skill in strategy, and have enough of an understanding of his new gear to make a strategy. Although he didn't win, it was still a stunning victory.

This fight set the tone of what type of fighter Mikumo would be. Using his quick wits and deception to make up for his low Trion and lack of physical talent. I love how this show emphasizes what makes different Border Agents special. Some of my favorite moments come from who other characters refer to as the 'Spear Guy'(Seriously). • @stroyanielson3776

Exactly! I also enjoy how much it emphasizes how grit alone won’t save you. It’s my favorite case of “a world that accommodates but doesn’t favor the protagonist”. Counting by anime episodes, it’s around 15-or-so eps where they keep making us see Osamu get beat up despite having the same motivations as most (if not all) of shonen anime protagonists. In doing so, it effectively rewired a lot of the viewers (that stayed) point of view because, let’s face it, we’re used to the formula that when the MC is beat up that means they will randomly get a power up. That way, during that time when Afto rolls around the first time it actually managed to make me think “what is he going to do now” instead of “plot armor will save him”, and how the rules of the triggers is so specific you expect to see more of every character’s creative thinking than gigantic flashy explosions

I've watched and read a lot of shounen and not many shoujo/adult/others but the only one that made it into my top 5 list is world trigger. I hate tropes where the MCs win because they "fight for their loved ones" / "have something to fight for" or have ridiculous power-ups after a short training arc or acquiring some new equipment. World trigger doesn't do that. They even state that while stronger motivation MIGHT give someone an edge if the fighters/teams are evenly matched, it won't determine a fight. Because implying otherwise would mean that the other person just didn't want to win hard enough / didn't do everything in their power to win. Making osamu the main, weak character was also genius because it shows that YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE OP to be able to WIN AS A TEAM. Even weaker (i.e. lower magic/power and combat level) characters can have an important role in a fight and contribute to the team's win. That is such a great message.
Side note: I also love how real the world feels thanks to all the great, fleshed-out side characters. Usually side characters only have 1-2 defining traits and you only ever see their relationship with the MC and their immediate best friend and maaaaybe their team. But in world trigger, side characters have a history, layered character traits, relationships with multiple people and groups within border, skill sets that can evolve, as well as character development (sometimes). The entire first arc of the 2nd season was carried only by side characters and the story didn't suffer at all because of it (quite the opposite in fact). That is so awesome!
(Are you planing on making a video on how to write a great cast by any chance? 😉 )

@@KaiserShounen Also, for Osamu, if he had a side effect, it would probably be like an increase to his analysis. Like, he would immediately think to use Asteroid Scatter after his 1st loss. You might think that its a big increase, but its not because he is already smart and he was not using his brain throughout the 24 losses, but if he did with the info he had, he would have gone for what he did. A big increase to his analysis would be if he uses Asteroid Scatter when he saw Kazama use chameleon.

And the best part of it imo is that it's not like you have one side using their wits against the other side who are just faster and stronger. Most characters on both sides of a fight have big brain moments and don't do things for no reason.
Even Suwa, who seems like a meathead jock, has a moment where he leaves himself open to a sniper shot that will go through a normal shield, but focus shields his face because he knows who the sniper is and knows they both can go for a head shot and will try it, making that a pretty safe play to bait them into revealing their position.

That a good point, didn't quite think of it like that before. I feel it all adds to the inherit collaborative design of World Triggers power system, and how earth specifically uses it. Unlike other shonen were everyone is a special snow flake, with their own unique powers, world trigger mostly opts for mass production and adoption. Where the uniqueness comes not from the triggers themselves, but the combinations, tactics and strategies employed. Add this to the group combat, and you have a system that rewards collaboration and tactical thinking, rather then individual raw power.
And this is often juxtaposed with neighborhood enemies who take the opposite approach, utilizing a handful of unique individuals, supported by mass autonomous infantry.

Another interesting video would be about how WT rewards people that pay attention, giving them some answers beforehand.
The first example is (Jin + Arashiyama squad) vs 8-9 Border Agents. The movement that decided the battle in Arashiyama side was hinted (in its usage) through the whole ep 14-15-16 (not that it was going to decide a victor, but that the "movement" was always at their disposal).
BUT there was a missing piece and it was WHO had it: the answer was scattered from ep 3 when Arashiyama squad first appeared and that "movement" was properly called by name (and never again) by its user, and even some other little , lets say, cameos.
The moment Shiori starts explaining and calling it by name (ep 14) the audience who paid attention immediately remembers ep 4 and/or the other cameos where intentionally it didn't showed its properties, the same as sniper weapons were all the same in looks and utility up until the sniper weapons are introduced properly (around ep 18).

Another FATAL FLAW for some people describing or just talking about Osamu's brains is calling him "an strategic genius" ..which makes casual viewer that start the series throwing Osamu's expectations as let's say Lelouch from Code Geass or any other character that is at their core "and OP character with another skin" replacing physical strength with brains (but having al the other cliche like easy victories, near zero improvement in her power level, and looking "cool" during the battles).
If someone want to copy this statement from me, be free to do so:
Osamu has VERY LOW POWER and EFFICIENCY in a 1-1 and will not improve. The room for improvement comes from this show focusing in team battles.
Osamu is a little above average when it comes to strategy so he tries to capitalize on that. Which in the grand scheme of thing can be labeled as "a hard road but a feasible one"
Remember all of those statements are in the context of these 3 seasons. Since they have a time limit to reach their goal as a team.

      @grandmasterace4785 Месяц назад +1

Exactly... Some people tend to overestimate his tactical skill but he is just above average there too. There are those who match and surpass him. His saving grace is that he does have a string team that can execute whatever he comes up with and the fact that people tend to underestimate how out of the box he thinks like in the final B-Rank fight with Ninomiya where he has switched Asteroid for Hound and kept shooting Hound like Asteroid all through the match only to switch it up at the last minute.

A Latin American speaker here. Our dub is also bad. to the point some weapons explanations (your know the core and distinctive factor in world triggers mechanics) has wrong dialogue:
Like "this fighter loses balance cause she doesn't a the leg arm" when the lose of balance comes from her combat style REQUIRES both arms in one weapon/sword/kogetsu.
Or all the female operators sounding the same as "happy/automatic" (which is DETRIMENTAL for 2-3 particular ones, like Hana from Team Katori) whereas any WT watcher knows that the commentator seat is ANOTHER stage for character exploration and portrayal to set the characters apart from each other or showing new aspect of an already introduced characters.
And some minor instances where a character having a "new" weapon in battle comes a the generic shonen surprise factor....when in reality the operator explictly said she is adding that weapon just in case. You know, because in world trigger planning matters---> it was equipped for 2 characters and only 1 ended up using it due to her environment.

its fine if you like it, i just personally felt ut was sub par. To me, very few of the actors outside of the main cast felt like they were trying or were properly casted

@@KaiserShounen I disagree but to each their own, I guess. I feel like more fit than they don't. At least I feel like it's quality was better in seasons 2 and 3. Maybe that's just me. I'm sorry I'm not trying to say your wrong just I don't see it. But I guess at the end of the day we both love the show, regardless of how we watch and/or read it. And that's what really matters right?

    Man... WT Dub is sh*t.
Great video. I hope you will one day give an analysis of Osamu fighting practically everyone in Border in a bid to find an answer when he was stuck. That episode is one of my favorites thematically.

Honestly, the WT anime is kinda shit in general. I mean, have you seen those fucking ocs from that filler arc, and this is ignoring the constant png sliding and pacing thats worse than one piece's anime pre-wano

Season 2 and 3 were better paced tho

Yes, season 1 was pretty bad animation and pace wise but thats the fault of toei. It was airing weekly and you see similar issues on One Piece at that time.
Its still one of my guilty pleasures and season 2 and 3 were absolutely deserved bangers which I never could have thought of.
