It does not have to be calculating the position of the sun all the time, that consumes energy, you just have to calculate it every 5 or 10 minutes, that drastically reduces the amount of energy used when aiming at the sun.
Not really. Just to clarify, it's CALCULATING all the item. I assume what you meant was adjusting the position all the time. In any case, moving the reflector assembly takes a trivial amount of energy. Besides, if you energize the tracking motor for a quarter second 10 times or for 2.5 seconds once, what's the difference? Moreover, you need to hit a pretty small target. This is a beautiful tracking system. (From somebody who's built one. ruclips.net/video/yS9tEpHysvQ/видео.html)
1:33 what about sticking a small solar panel there to get MORE ENERGY?) And it seems to me that it will be slightly cooled due to the working engine and, accordingly, heat removal (low temperature is important for the efficiency of solar panels), am I right?

the future is geothermal energy, will last for 2 billion years for all the people living on our planet. dig a 5km hole under your house and you can have it
Excellent, always in these videos I have the same question. How much electrical energy or work in an hour is the equipment capable of producing? This aspect of the experience is always missing. Thanks for the video. Greetings
I’ve seen tracking done brilliantly with tiny solar panels hidden just behind the dish. As they are exposed to the sun they power the motors directly, so it reorientates automatically with no constant power draw.
I am trying something very similar with Fresnel lens. Its light weight frame will be easy on tracking sun. Its a solar concentrator too where cheaper lenses are bringing in 90 percent of light.. And would like to talk to you if possible about your project.
the principle is there, but the engine shakes the mirror. The wheel is tiny, so it would not produce much momentum to do very much.. Use a bigger dish, draw the heat away from the dish, heating oil and power a bigger engine.
Able to scale it up, so the mirror is 2 or 3 meters across? Bigger stirling engine? Able to tie in to an existing power system? Something like that, I would interested to purchase.
I think one way to scale this up is by using single axis parabolic solar concentrators to heat up water, oil or some other fluid which can then be used to feed a larger engine. Temps are probably going to be lower though. Or have a central tower with the engine surrounded by a field of mirrors, you how it's done with a solar power tower.

Yes, just buy paint made for boiler plate or stoves. I have been thinking about making one similar and in addition to painting it black, incorporate a glass globe to make it even hotter by trapping the heat around the element.
This technology was actually commission in 2010, and it was capable of generating 1 megawatt of power, this was later abandoned due to environmental concerns.

this some james bond villian looking stuff, and i love it :D
Very good. I love it. Solar panels have maximum 20 years life time but this may have 120 years, moreover it has not chemical dependency.
It depends on whatever gas you fill it with, from what I know hydrogen gas works well. it's a closed system though so no gas is released...I think.
Moving parts might make it less reliable.
Or slave labor to extract the materials
these are much more efficient than the best solar cells too.
am not sure the mirror would last 120 years.
A two cylinder might run smoother. And I might suggest a copper heat sink to store excess heat. Very nice design and nice finished workmanship.

Nice job one of the forgotten power generation ideas.
My version is slightly different but the principal is the same .
I used no servos, just two small 3V motors with a self made gear.
Very beautiful. I can watch it run All day long! 😍
I build it on my own.

Hi, no updates so far. I will start working on it next year and post some new videos.
Good job!!!. Mirror- what is that? . Im looking for reflection pararabolic mirror...
greenpowerscience sell good ones, and they also show how to make your own. I see both solutions in the suggestions at the right.
how much power does it make? also is the engine oiled? cool set up.
Added a mechanism associated with shape memory materials for automatic start.
Add a heat sync to it. Will allow more torque from added pressure.
could enclose in a vacuumed container to avoid noise and better performance
