I know it was said, but as a new player the setplay *is* why I don't like characters like Millia or IV Ibuki. I don't like eating a knockdown into some unseeable eight-way mixup that I have to know sixteen different OS's for, and *must* take some wild guess on which one to defend myself with just to be allowed to stand back up and *attempt* to break out again. Never feels like "oh, you blocked the thing, the danger is over and you got out", it just feels like "you blocked the thing? okay well now you just gotta hold the next layer of the mix"
Everytime someone talks about what's bad about a character in any game the voice in my head screams "Have you SEEN how far ui Goku's counter hits?!???"
Well, not letting people play how they want to play seems like how every character wins tbh, and if millia lets ppl play how they want to play she just dies
Coming from BlazBlue CF, I remember really disliking how much of GG was about steamrolling and not letting people play the game and how often I'd see Perfects in tournament matches compared to BBCF. After playing a bunch of setplay characters over the last year (Mu-12, Venom, Millia, Raven), I can kind of see the appeal now, but it's not any less frustrating to deal with during the match.
That's how I felt playing Tekken. It's never been a series I got into, but anytime I went up against anyone with actual skill it was ground bounce>juggle half my life away>kick me on the floor before I can wakeup. I hated how once an opponent got you in the air you were basically a baloon.

I think people don't like that her setplay is looping. At least in Strive you can return to neutral once, but it's still annoying. Imo setplay loops are just bad design, unless the setplay in question is prone to failure. There aint no way you're fucking up dash jH, dash jP, or fall 2K. It's just so easy.
I dont think it is so bad since each loop does not do that much damage and you have chances of escaping before taking a super big amount of damage that makes it so the match is unwinnable
Thats what im saying...like a character that is built to do the conceptually the strongest thing in fighting games is just stupid always going to be a pain to deal with. I really dislike her core design. Same with leo but even leos mixups and set play feel more fair than millia. She gets disk up and ur either getting hit or u arent. Its wack as fuck. If they want her mixup to be so good then she shouldnt be so dam good in neutral as well imo. Having low life isnt enough to balance her. Im not counting her lowish damage cuz everyone does good damage in this game.
@@devilmaycrysarockingdontcome the whole "she does no damage" excuse never made any sense to me. Who cares if she does no damage when he can indefinitely keep you trapped in a 50/50 that you can't interact with, outside of 2 options that are huge resource expenditures that she can bait? It doesn't matter that she has to touch you 6 times in order to kill you, those 6 touches are successive of each other
Millia requires a PHD in the match up in order to actually defend against her. It's not like Sol or Ram or something where you can use universal fighting game fundamentals to beat them (Albeit at a disadvantage unless you're playing certain characters) At least, that's why I hate her guts.
You are making it more difficult for no reason. Outside of a couple of gimmicks, because her mix is so strong you should be putting minimal effort into thinking of defending. Literally just guess. Maybe your character has some option selects to take advantage of, then do those sometimes. But the theory is really simply, learn where the mixups are and what the options are, then just guess. Don't waste brain power here. If you don't believe me you can watch hotashi explain the concept
@@bmac1415 I probably misworded that. I mean, her neutral is so weird and fast that you need an inordinate grasp of her options in order to stop her from running her mix in the first place. "Just flawlessly anti-air all of her 100 options or die" is really hard for someone who isn't incredibly experienced in the match-up. It is still pretty hard even at high levels if the general sentiment is to be believed. I realize that she has issues, and isn't as much trouble at extremely high levels of play, but from my experience I'd rather fight a Sol, Leo, Nago, May, or Ram any day of the week.
In strive? she is hard to stop and has incredible mix but has poor defense and range. If you are looking for ways to defend against her to beat her you are thinking wrong about the match-up. You have to pin her down in neutral by predicting her high commitment movement options and stuffing her attempts at running at you since she has very poor range. Still obnoxious as fuck tho...
I like this format you're doing, I'm sure it can be done with every single character in GG, lot of content there. When I was learning Xrd I STRONGLY DISLIKED Millia because I'm a scrub and she didn't let me play due to pin, her seemingly godlike 6H (which I got thrown out of my bad timed mixups a lot), and the fact that I had to just block some stuff to punish on a 4~6f delay netcode. In Strive she's more tame and I'm also a little better so its not that big of a deal (Also I try to not get too salty when I'm her vortex because that's how it is and some dumb stuff I DID made me be in that place for starts). In +R i never played against a good one and I prefer to stay that way please.
Ya the often thing is Fans want their characters, regardless of the comp scene, who they prioritize is up to them but its their job to make the game tolerable
People dislike Millia because she was a top 5 character from x to xx reload and was still high tier in most games after only really getting screwed in Slash and the later versions of Xrd. Strive Millia ain't s**t though. Edit: Also friendly reminder that Millia's mix ups were so effed up in XX that people literally made a flash game out of it.
Probably an unintended side effect of the video, but the comparison to threading the needle made me feel like the risk reward is too skewed out of Strive Millia's favor for her current strengths considering kapel is supposed to be her pseudo replacement for pin. Seems like counterhit kapel should knock characters up instead of away.
What you said about finding it hard to dislike your own main but hates everyone else’s is too factual. Like in smash all of my friends hate when I hate Kirby even though he’s pretty slow. Doesn’t have much range and has decent combo game at best. Yet they all hate him.
The way she oppresses you is ridiculous, her option to do it is just as bad. Her weaknesses doesn’t balance out the BS and for a while now, I avoid the broad. Not to mention she can fly all over the screen avoiding combat. Don’t know why you’re focusing on xrd for this.
I don't really have an issue with Millia but I do remember a Millia main, ounce telling me, the reason they hate my main Baiken is because she doesn't let them play the game
I wanted to comment “so what, gear players dislike every character that isn’t their that something?” Then looked deep within myself and realized that… god. I hate everyone but MY character.
Why don't people like millia? If I had to guess it'd be because getting hit by a knockdown is just free easy Mixup for a millia. Speaking on terms of an average player
If you loose neutral vs someone like a millia or a ino regularly when fighting them it just feels like your getting knockdown then being forced to block mix which imo milia and ino are amazing at. Making it very difficult, i play faust so when I get knocked down by either of the characters I can be 90% hp but my life is still in danger cause that mix is just to hard to block coming from a player that cycles there options
Bro I be fightin for my life as Jack-O against Millia. I love the challenge tho. Forces you to learn how to bounce minions where you think the Millia is gonna try to go.
It's also fun to learn different play patterns that different people use. You'd be surprised how many time I've hit higher ranked people with a random hair car from half screen because nobody is usually dumb enough to try to do that. XD Sol especially. I give them the perfect space to want to do vortex and just counter them. Not a whole lot of damage and no combo potential without RC, but still fun.
@@vigorouslethargy Lmao. On the topic of Sol players, a Sol recently sent me a (less than nice) message because of the way that I play Ky. In summary, he was mad because Ky’s forward heavy command normal stuffs that cheesy slide.

I really want to like millia but as a scrubby gio player the matchup feels so unplayable lmao im sure its probably more even than i like to think but playing against her for too long starts to tilt me
i played milia but i absolutely hate this mirror. it feels like milia is designed to completely destroy herself and whoever gets the first knock down just gets a free win. low HP means her damage actually feels substantial, bad defensive options means you just have to hold the mix almost every single time
about the baiken stuff from the future looking back at this. Baiken in strive right now is a pretty dumb character imo. PRC parry is something she can only do which can stop a lot of options, she can essentially jump in on players and if your not expecting the jump in you can just eat the claw and get mixed up and thrown into the corner with buttons some characters just can't do well with. She isn't as stupid as Ram of course but its definitely not fun watching baiken players do the same 2 or 3 combos that you can sometimes counter really well only for them to do it again and get lucky with your reaction times. Now this is coming from a really mid testament player of course, but all the characters in strive have something busted its just annoying that the way I feel they made baiken busted is to make her feel similar to I-no in how they get the gameplan working with the same way every time with a bit of variation only when you actually punish it 7 times in a row. I feel millia is a bit that way to some degree but i've definitely seen them change up their gameplan more than Baiken and I-no.
LK is the Fighting Game Scientist, and he is brilliant as a player and content creator Brilliant Scientist ... LK is Bardock confirmed 😂 Fr tho, great video as always LK!
I'm not the longest time fan but I've always hated Millia since I started in Xrd simply because she destroys my main (Dizzy) pretty much by default. Though in strive I don't think the MU will be nearly as bad because she has no pin anymore I'd surely state it's a 9/1 for her. Like she matches your air mobility and literally whenever she tries anything while you're flying just pin. Therefore I can't really understand how peps rant about setplay characters in strive? like I started in Xrd and anyone that played as little knows setplay in strive is a joke man, like there's barely anything you can do on top of a meaty. If you played any prior version of millia (I also went into +R with the rollback patch) you know every character in strive is street fighter level of honest. Don't believe me go or our millia main here just go play her in +R where all you can do is try to guess what degenerate uncounterable bs she's going to throw at you. Xrd has way better defense and still the menu of stuff she has to throw at you is insane strive is like did you get sweep? ok disk time with either a high/low or crossup. That's it, literally all the options she has. And if she didnt sweep she gets nothing like that at all just a plain meaty.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding here but what more is there to a fighting game that's possible besides high low, left right and strike throw? Is there some unlockable shit people had in xrd? Cause if not I'm not really getting how you think people's complaints ain't shit?
@@SlothWindGod while the mix itself might be the same the safety/return/ability to loop it changes, Millia in Xrd has a move called Secret Garden, it's a multi-hit projectile that once out doesn't go away and if used properly keeps you blocking for something like 110+ frames, so you better be ready to block like 3 mixes in a row. Also as LK said every hit loops back into itself meaning that once some characters start you really need to guess or commit resouces. Strive Millia is still really hard to block, but she if you block disc Oki her pressure becomes way weaker compared to older games
@@SlothWindGod there was plenty of unblockable stuff in +R. In Xrd not so much but the setups were so variable and so many you legitimately had to grind training for ages figuring out how to defend against them. I mained dizzy so I can only speak about her, but I think she was the most complex setplay character for sure. You had fish setups for most of the cast that you could loop in between forever if they don't know how to get out, you could also throw in between fish hits which was hard because of timing but bs nonetheless because dizzy's throw is the fastest in the game and always leads to both combo and hkd into another setup. So in short there is a lot of options you have to follow up your oki and keep pressure, though they're all defendable if the opponent knows what to do at what time. Strive on the other has no gattling, very long startups on specials (hence wjy disk is just a regular mix instead of setup ball+ disc and after Millia's mix youre still locked for more stuff due to ball, she can also throw you or do nothing so the disc crosses you up etc. Just to mention one example. Strive does not allow any of that to ever happen) so you just do your one setup and after it's blocked youre back to neutral. And there is also no hkd outside of sweeps so setups are rare instead of after every combo ever like it's always been.
Millia as a character is great.
Her gameplan is great.
Watching her do nutty mixups is great.

That would require people to play bedman which was rare.
Wait, LK mentioned Dark LK? I gotta get back to rewatch the Adult Gohan video for my weekly intake of Dark LK
Let's be real, people just don't like to block
Nothing to do with it....nobody is reacting to milllias mix when done properly. If she wasnt so good at neutral as well nobody would complain. Its that her neutral is godlike and then she just runs that braindead oki to death. Like nothing is fun about it.
@@maxrusty3596 you are talking like millia in strive is the best character with yhr best mix up lol
She is shit and waste of time compared to another characters that need to do less and get way more damage, better buttons, plus frames, frame traps, set ups. Like what you are saying is a concern of you because a good nago or potemkin will give 0 fucks about her mix and the damage that they cause. With hits its all over for millia.
@@maxrusty3596 millia outside of anji and maybe jack-0 is one of the most mediocre characters in strive compared to the rest and it forces you to think and do stuff that other characters do 100% better without being at risk of fucking up once or twice and died lmao, and not having enough tools, approaches as she did in xrd.
@@nan2236 lol whatever u say man. U like millia good for u
honestly I'm both shocked at the response to why people hate baiken and not at all shocked. On one hand its like yeah people lack the ability to understand what you're talking about, but on the other hand its like you said "guilty gear players hate baiken" and the running gag is that people who love baiken don't play guilty gear, how did so many people get so defensive lmao.
Is LK's right headphone okay? It looks like its bent away at an unnatural angle. Solid vid! I'm clearly still to new and niave to fighting games because I generally like all the characters and understand there are strengths and weaknesses to it all. Apart from those damn Nagoriyuki players, and Sol players, can't forget about Ram too, can't trust those grappling Pot's, or tricky Zato's...
He might have it off his ear so the in game sounds don’t distract him from thinking and articulating.
That headset was trash and broke in a week. I got a new one now
10:34 This is true, both on the internet and irl.
I hate Millia because I usually spam 4 dolphins in a row, but against her, I get to do only 3 until she dies.

lets go LK with another consistent upload 👍
Real Reason: NOBODY downplays their character harder than Millia players
@Konakon izumi lmao see, exactly like this! You’re nailing it!
Never feels like "oh, you blocked the thing, the danger is over and you got out", it just feels like "you blocked the thing? okay well now you just gotta hold the next layer of the mix"
the real reason is its not the character they play and they up play them so much while also downplaying the character they do play
Everytime someone talks about what's bad about a character in any game the voice in my head screams "Have you SEEN how far ui Goku's counter hits?!???"
10:25 "people be doing this and people be doing this and they call it player expression" you are the goat bro
I play on pad and both dashing and air dashing feel clumsy in xrd.
Is there a way to prevent me from having to double tap forward or back to dash
I'd love to see an entry in this series for Haehyun lol
Do people hate on Haehyun though? I don’t think I’ve seen anyone give her shit besides that demon 2P
@@NeoBoneGirl I dunno if they do or not tbh lol. That was just a personal one :P

Hey, is that a Balamb Garden theme from FFVIII ost playing in the background?
Love the outro btw
Well, not letting people play how they want to play seems like how every character wins tbh, and if millia lets ppl play how they want to play she just dies
Balamb Garden theme relaxes me every time
i love the balamb garden background music
Extremely interested in more of these videos. Especially if you did Slayer (my char)
Man.. millia was looking so cool in xrd. Please god of rollback, Sajam, giveth the rollback to xrd. Enter
nobody is stopping you from playing xrd.
go ahead and play that millia version.
rollback will take awhile to see it on xrd.
@@nan2236 that's the thing, the netcode and the entire online experience IS stopping me. It's just a plain bad experience when you play. I'd rather wait as long as it takes than be frustrated by "how it could be great so easily... But it's not".
Doesn't matter how good the meal is, if someone just barfed on top of it.
@@GFClocked then stop complaining if you know how long it will take lmao. Btw You can still go into training mode and learn how she plays and no bother about offline if you just want to try her out and learn how she plays there.
@@nan2236 That sounds rude mate. I mostly was referring to the visuals of her - "how cool she looks". And the whole pls sajam, it's tongue and cheek. Just because it's Internet doesn't mean I'm not real and you should act rude towards me.
It's not like Sol or Ram or something where you can use universal fighting game fundamentals to beat them (Albeit at a disadvantage unless you're playing certain characters)
At least, that's why I hate her guts.
@@dyssonpitcher612 How is her neutral in Strive weird?
@@HawooAwoo Her focus on air movement and access to mobility options largely beyond most of the cast.
When did NitroNoodlez switch from Zato and Millia to Baiken?
9:50 cudi reference, i assume
video start at 2:45
man the lk content been hittin lately salute to u man
I like this format you're doing, I'm sure it can be done with every single character in GG, lot of content there.
What's weird about Millia is even if I'm winning I don't like playing the match up. I can usually tolerate any match up if I'm winning.
I think that is more about you than millia lol, I feel relieved when I manage to pin her down and run my shit on her.
What you said about finding it hard to dislike your own main but hates everyone else’s is too factual. Like in smash all of my friends hate when I hate Kirby even though he’s pretty slow. Doesn’t have much range and has decent combo game at best. Yet they all hate him.
I like the concept of these videos, can you make a video talking about Raven i’ve known why he is hated and i don’t know much about Xrd
As Nago main - character I hate to fight the most in Strive is Leo. Some characters might be more annoying, but they're much less common (Axl)
Axl is so uncommon in fact. I have no opinion on him. Like I never fight him, just like Ram (where did all Ram players go?)
The way she oppresses you is ridiculous, her option to do it is just as bad. Her weaknesses doesn’t balance out the BS and for a while now, I avoid the broad. Not to mention she can fly all over the screen avoiding combat. Don’t know why you’re focusing on xrd for this.
I don't really have an issue with Millia but I do remember a Millia main, ounce telling me, the reason they hate my main Baiken is because she doesn't let them play the game
now i'm no fighting game expert, but i can assume that it feels bad to lose in any game because you "guessed wrong"
I wanted to comment “so what, gear players dislike every character that isn’t their that something?” Then looked deep within myself and realized that… god. I hate everyone but MY character.
could you make a video about what made johnnu sucha strong character?
At this point, it feels like every body hates every character expect the one they main.
Good thing she and everyone else has slower dashes and IAD as dash macro button would sort of make everyones movement op
XD
Sol especially.
I'm 100% sure you'll be making one of these about Johnny
It has to be done
Someone mixed me up with Millia in Xrd so bad I had to main her. I still hate fighting Millia, she’s a nightmare, that’s why I dig her.
I main Nago, but from just a pure gaming perspective each character is necessary. Makes the game fun, there is a character for everyone.
LK, you never fail to make me want to buy Strive. I WILL soon. Just life stuff been in the way of picking up another FG.
$Bill and I brushed shoulders with you at Frosty, but you looked like you were on a mission so we didn't say what up.

I really want to like millia but as a scrubby gio player the matchup feels so unplayable lmao im sure its probably more even than i like to think but playing against her for too long starts to tilt me
Yo awesome outro
Dat balmb garden throw back tho.
i played milia but i absolutely hate this mirror. it feels like milia is designed to completely destroy herself and whoever gets the first knock down just gets a free win. low HP means her damage actually feels substantial, bad defensive options means you just have to hold the mix almost every single time
I think every character in the series struggles against the mirror maybe barring those with a DP.
Damn bro you’re godlike at explaining anything
I don't like Millia because I don't like HAVING to hold her shit while not being able to make her think about MY shit (On wakeup.)
Imagine unironically having to block on wake up
@@devilmaycrysarockingdontcome Other people don't, so I don't want to either. Lmao
Your knowledge of frames is impressive 👏
about the baiken stuff from the future looking back at this.
LK is the Fighting Game Scientist, and he is brilliant as a player and content creator
Brilliant Scientist ...
LK is Bardock confirmed 😂
Fr tho, great video as always LK!
new solution is to make it a series and go over every character
Does anyone know what mic LK is using?
Never played GG in my life, but 6f invincibility on 11f backdash sounds absolutely bonkers
Baiken doesn't let you push your offense, and Millia will snipe you with a laser beam for trying to even start your offense
+1 for balamb garden theme
Is LK's headset busted??
The way he said "player expression" lmao
@Konakon izumi please repeat this in an understandable way I have no clue what you mean at all
I hope Elphelt gets added
Continue making these man, great potential for a series
People don't like watching a one player game. So they don't like getting knocked down by millia.
