  • In this Video I show you the 3 ways that I'll be completely transforming my training to get faster this year - and it all start with buying a calendar. If you're looking to run a faster 5km, get into half marathon training, smash a full blown marathon training, or just want to know how to get faster, then this video should give you the tools to plan your entire year in a systematic way. Happy New Year!

    Summary:
    - Buying a Calendar, and filling it with races: without proper planning and preparation, you will run out of time during a year to make progress and do races, just like I did last year. Here are a few essential running tips for getting more structured with your training.
    - Get better at aerobic base building: The answer is not running slow to run fast, zone 2 training, MAF training... the key is to build speed during bas building blocks that will bleed over to your longer distance training blocks. Hal Hidden taught me this, and it will absolutely make me faster this year.
    - Strength and Conditioning: Some of the best runners in the world preach strength and conditioning, and I've not be as stringent with it as I have in the past. So I'll share with you my strength testing and an idea on how to implement your weights for running in into your running program to get faster.

Thanks for the beakdown. I want to go for a marathon too but my 5k time is 29 and 10k is 58, so my goal will be 4.5 hours. plus i have more or less an hour a day for training which will give me about 7-8km per day easy pace. Doesnt matter when i will run a marathon, but will one day. do you recon i do a faster 5k and 10k first before attempting a marathon? like 22 mins 5k and about 45 min 10k. All i know is that my legs dont get tired after these runs, rather my lungs and heart give out if i go any faster. Thanks.

I’d focus on building a big base and running lots of 5km and 10kms for a while. If you aren’t in a rush to run a marathon they take it easy and build your shorter distances up.
This is what I feel too - heart and lungs in a 5km and 10km.

Thank you. I stopped training plans altogether and right now only focusing on easy runs with strides. Maybe when i reach 25 min 5k, i will start specific training. My base is quite bad. Taining peaks vo2 calcultion for me is 43 which is very much average for a 29 year old
