I love how you include the lines that most people play in addition to the main lines. So often with opening guides they focus on the best moves, as if the consequences of playing other worse moves are obvious. You break down *why* those worse moves are bad and how to properly exploit that - it's what sets you apart as the best opening teacher on RUclips. Thank you so much!
far too frequently do opening guides refuse to flesh out side variations and delve into concepts/ideas, simply for the sake of "brevity". if you would prefer a five-minute skeleton guide to the Danish rather than an hour of free-of-charge and in-depth analysis (the likes of which you probably couldn't find elsewhere for less than $50) then feel free to watch a different video@@chrisrobbins2632
This is the best chess video I’ve ever watched on RUclips. There may be more in depth videos, but Danya is the best getting the thought process behind the moves across to me
Danya!! You're my favourite chess youtuber! I love your videos and how instructional they are, as well as your sweet and charming personality. Keep it up! And never stop uploading ❤❤
Thanks a lot! Recently switched to e5 and your gambit refutation videos help a lot. Cuz it’s sad to win a half an hour battle in the quiet Italian to get crushed in Danish in couple minutes. Kudos to you, Daniel! Best content.
16:37 - "This moves is orders of magnitude less common online than..." *proceeds to state 2 numbers within the same order of magnitude* HAHA! Love your content bro, keep it up. :)
Many thanks for this intensive and highly accurate explanation to fight against the Danish Gambit. Great video & keep up your great work and vids. Cheers!
If I could sub multiple times just to boost your algorithm I would. By far the most instructive chess youtuber in my opinion. My rating went up nearly 200 points after watching Daniel for half a year. 100/10 would recommend to anyone who wants to get better.
3. ... Qe7 is another option that apparently was a Leela discovery, Stockfish has it at just about the same as taking dxc4, they change places depending on depth but are both about -0.4. It's really tough for white to face even if it does inconvenience black's bishop. It's in Sethuraman's lifetime e5 repertoire. It's pretty fun.
awesome refutation and enlightening pitching of this precious chess knowledge. thank you again danya. its kinda freaky that your content is improving although you were so brilliant to begin with.
I always played 3...Qe7 against the Danish, engine likes it, surprisingly many Danish players don't know how to respond to it well, and I find it quite fun to play as black too as you are the one getting a strong attack AND holding on to the pawn. Was a little expectant of Danya going for this move but great video nonetheless!
Huh, yeah, opening this up...there doesn't appear to be any immediately visible good lines for white. Recapturing looks good at first but you can see that leaving it running shows the Qxe4 is an only move, but one that works fine for black. Be2 gives up the g pawn, Ne2 looks to create a state that is -0.6 which you will take, and nothing else is any better. Interesting, though I can see why some would shy away from the queen in the center like that. If you don't play well you can easily screw up the position from here and the advantage isn't even a full piece.
I used to play this, but ultimately found it to be a more unnecessarily complicated version of the forcing 3...d5 queenless middlegame. Just feels like an improved version of the 3...d5 Morra declined. I'm about 2400-2500 online btw
Main reason I never like playing Qe7 in any opening is because I don't know where would the Bishop on f8 develop ? Like do i move my queen away later and then move the Bishop. Or do I fianchetto my Bishop. I really don't know the plan. I am 1300 rapid and if anyone can explain in it would be really helpful
I've been playing the Danish gambit almost exclusively after you yourself starting going for it a few speedruns ago. It is in fact super fun to play even after you show how completely you can demolish it.
24:10 The queen manoeuvres reminded me of something written about by GM Matthew Sadler in his (second) book about engine chess. One concept he gives that engine's use to defend is to "create confusion with a hyperactive queen" - this line is a testament to that I think. (He also mentions how stockfish often create weaknesses in the opponent's king's position when defending).
Thank you very much! I have an abysmal win rate against the danish, let's hope it goes up after this video. Do you think you could incorporate timestamps for the different main lines into your "opening labs"?
I do not totally agree with you : at 9:03, White can play 6.Be3!? .... and this is the new way to play the position with Nc3 and Ng-e2 to follow ... What do you recommand against this white set-up ?
Danya could you make one on the hippo or the philidor for me personally they are the toughest to Crack,.in Start it will be a slow positional game and in just a few moves it's a tactical shootout ,I've always struggled with those.

Very mixed feelings about this video! I play the Danish a lot if allowed to and usually win fairly quickly against players of equal or lower rating. Now they're going to know how to neutralize my beloved threats if they take the time to learn these lines! The upside is that I should probably be studying some more sound attacking openings for white and this video could be the push I need. Great content in any case 👍
@@softan Absolutely, the video's great and deserves an automatic like and I'm sure there will still be plenty of swift Danish victories in future, just maybe not so many! Any plans on an aggressive alternative opening for white after e4 e5? Suggestions welcomed 👍
52:17 after ...d5! by black, if white replies with Bb5+ it is important to not reply with ...c6 (most popular move by far in databases) but instead to play ...nfd7. Really important to keep the advantage as black.
I've always declined the Danish with the d5 move, not because I was scared of it, but because I thought white got to have all the fun and the best black could hope for was an endgame up a couple pawns. But this makes it look fun to play as black.
I'm ashamed to say I've done no studying other than watching this well prepared video, but I happened to remember all of it during a bullet game and completely crushed my opponent. For someone who has herculean struggles remembering any theory, I'd say the credit is entirely owed to the quality content. Great job!
Great video. One thing… We can be move-ordered out of the recommendation against 4.Nxc3…, I think…, if white plays 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 ed 4. c3…? I guess it’s the Goran Gambit rather than the Danish, strictly. Currently I play 4…dc 5. Nc3 Bb4 but would be keen to know Danya or anyone else’s response of choice
I was waiting for this video for a long time! The Danish annoyed me a lot, and worst of all, online there's not so much content to cover it in detail, i found only a handful of videos explaining some refutation, and they are like 10 min long, so for now on i'll embrace you refutation, because for now after c3 i always play 3. Qd7! and i saw that you didn't cover this line at all in this video, and it's the engine refutation for the Danish, basically it's a way to always (almost) keep and extra pawn going to a fast queenless endgame, so what do you think about that line? It doesn't punish the Danish enough in your opinion?
Are you planning on making videos on gambits in the Sicilian (and/or anti sicilians) like the Smith Morra? I don’t play e4-e5 as Black, but have greatly enjoyed your traxler and stafford videos for my white repertoire, I find your explanations very helpful and easy to follow.
As a (former) Danish player, I was always afraid of the Nf6 Bb4 d5 Line, because it seems to be unbeatable. Although I have seen it played once or twice, it was the reason I abandonned the Danish. Now I'm a center game guy 😅
I think the best line, as another DGambit player, is to go Ne2 and castle instead of pushing e5. That way we can just put long term pressure on the king instead of going for what is an obviously a simplification line. I was really expecting this to be all Schlecter defense stuff, but the Copenhagen defense is interesting I suppose.
I love how you include the lines that most people play in addition to the main lines. Can't agree with this more, most of the time when I play openings I fail to capitalize on bad moves because I have no idea that they are bad.
Agreed.

What a great video! Thank you so much! After White plays the Stockfish move, 21. Bb5, Stockfish continues with the following:
[1. e4 e5 2. d4 exd4 3. c3 dxc3 4. Bc4 cxb2 5. Bxb2 Nf6 6. e5 Bb4+ 7. Bc3 Qe7 8. Qe2 Ng8 9. Nf3 Nh6 10. O-O O-O 11. Bxb4 Qxb4 12. a3 Qe7 13. Nc3 Nc6 14. Nd5 Qd8 15. Rfe1 d6 16. Rad1 Bg4 17. exd6 Qxd6 18. h3 Bxf3 19. Qxf3 Rae8 20. Rxe8 Rxe8 21. Bb5]
(Start here):
21...Kf8 22. Nb4 Nd4 23. Qxb7 g6 24. Nc2 Nhf5 25. Rxd4 Nxd4 26. Bxe8 Nxc2 27. Bxf7 Qd1+ 28. Kh2 Qd6+ 29. Kh1 Kxf7 30. Qb3+ Kf6 31. Qxc2 Qxa3 32. Qc6+ Qd6 33. Qf3+ Ke6 34. Qe4+ Qe5 35. Qc4+ Ke7 Draw
The likelihood of anyone finding all of these Stockfish moves to secure the draw for White has to be nearly zero unless one is a super-GM.
