Don't you wish someone would set up a telescope on your street?
If so, could that someone be you?
They are incredibly easy to learn, enjoy and share. On a clear night, they are the ultimate ice breakers. If you have a telescope at your next barbecue, it could be the barbecue your friends and family remember forever!
This one was sold to us by a retired astronomer for $80 and was in rough shape. It didn't have a mount or eyepieces, and was very dirty. We built a quick mount out of cardboard and local hardware supplies and gave it a wipe. Not a bad view, right?
If you're thinking about getting one, just go for it! You can start small with a 114mm and still see the Rings of Saturn, moons of Jupiter, and the Hercules Globular cluster. I started with a 114mm because I wanted to study the moon. However, I underestimated how cool everything else would look through a telescope. Now I have 10. Be warned!!

Totally, it’s the best part! People also lose their minds when we let them sign the telescope after they look through it. And once more when we hand them a sticker commemorating what they saw! Outreach is such a good time. It’s all we’ve been doing lately! I’ll try to record a session at the docks for ya ❤️
