All those plebs here saying he's playing like a beginner kinda make me laugh, it's called rhythm section done right. Plus the guy is a true metronome, you would be surprised how many drummers can't actually keep it up all the time like him. You don't play crazy rudiments and boom blasts when touring with shakira lel
I agree with everything you said except the metronome part. He is most likely using a metronome in his in-ear monitors which is extremely common with this level of production.
It was more like a metaphor, but yeah, you said it better ! Besides, playing with a metronome doesn't mean you automatically become capable of constantly keeping the time. I for example know a lot of people who can't. But this is a little off the topic, considering the guy is a professional drummer, haha.

That's right, I am 14 years old and I'm a drummer, but sometimes I lose the compass or the rhythm, its complicated to keep the rhythm for too long. Brendan Buckley is the greatest drummer in the world.
He's a great drummer because he's there to support the star of the show, not be the show. That's professionalism, also, from his prospective, you don't hear how full it sounds like you do if you were out front of the stage, believe me, it sounds amazing out there!!!

Bro! I saw this song on your Instagram page weeks ago. I don't know Shakira's music all that well but I am so blown away with your playing. After searching songs I finally found the song I was looking for and right when I am about to comment at 3:15 am after two stoli's and soda after 13 hours work and then falling asleep waking up at 2;30 am with the obsession, well not so much the obsession, I just YT drummers all the time for influence but I came across a breakdown of your kit and well I starting searching again and finally found the song from your Instagram page and right when I do my windows decides to upgrade..... anywho for what it's worth bro you are an influential drummer with all you carry for her band.
And the improv fills on both videos, Gotta keep it real and challenging

Anyone who shits on performances such as this hasn't obviously auditioned or worked tremendously hard for a job like Brendan's. You are not here to express your inner JoJo Mayer; you have a job to do night in night out. If you wanna keep this job, you serve the music. Work with the band. If you wanna display your skills nightly or your speed or your Purdie shuffle, or whatever it is you wanna highlight, you're more than welcome to your rehearsal room in your house, driving the neighbors crazy. I love these types of videos; they're instructional and a window into the life of a working professional musician touring the world.

Juan Camilo Rodriguez hi! I wasn’t using the bell of the ride cymbal for any of these arrangements, so I put a splash cymbal over it. It added a nice sizzle (like a rivet cymbal). I actually started doing this with TEGAN And SARA back in 2016.
