Newly retired, watching all the TV that I never knew existed. That Alan Shore was one of the best characters I've ever seen. Love James Spader!
If there is a more fun, quirky, and interesting actor on the planet than Mr. Spader, I can't think of one. The man is a unique in a world full of plastics.

@@RetroTekGuyAU they are on different paths quirky. Laurie has the more deliberate quirkieness while Spader has the whole playful jumpy kind.
Spader is awesome. Walken also come to mind.

Not just the character, the whole show was well written, even with all the humour there were moments when pulled pretty deep issues and sentiments...
Once Lukas Reiter & James Spader found each other, there was no stopping them. And through "The Practice", "Boston Legal", and now on "The Blacklist", still Reiter/Spader rule. Not much has been said about them being a dynamic duo which is surprising as there must be some reason those two brilliant minds are hip to hip for all these years.
And much agreed....even in this video from the ALWAYS talented +Lachka, it centers on the show's levity but the writers/producers were very, shall we say, Liberal, in their points of view. They spoke on just about every topic one could legally touch on from murder to stuffing one's own Mother's head and mounting it (that would be 'The Practice')....but you get my point.
'Boston Legal' had a ton of super emotional moments no matter how funny it may have been it was definitely a poignant show which is why it garnered as many Emmy nods and wins as it did. Just with Spader alone, he broke the mold being nominated and winning having two shows being up at one time...a first for Emmy historians.
Sorely missed but as with all good things......fortunately, with a much darker turn, we still have Mr. Spader on "The Blacklist", and he delivers just as great a performance. He and the creators mix inside the character Raymond 'Red' Reddington, the same kind of humor and serious qualities of Alan Shore with similar morality as well, except in this current role, instead of being a sex driven attorney, he tends to kill people more than have sex with them. Heh. Never the less, it makes for awesome television and whomever liked him as Alan Shore all those years MUST taste him as Red on "The Blacklist". NBC, Thursdays at 10PM (EST) (UTC +5) - If you haven't seen it yet, you really must give it a go and do not deny yourself watching at least the Pilot episode found on Netflix and I am sure floating around elsewhere on the Internet.

God, how I miss Alan Shore. And those balcony closing scenes with Denny... what could a bromance ask for more . I've never watched the final season of The Practice, though. Everyone says Alan do crazy things there. I gotta watch it ASAP :D
+Carolz The best way to appreciate the epicness is to start with Ally McBeal and work your way up the timeline. Not sure I would want to repeat The Practice all the way through though.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the character of Alan Shore. The best ever on any series. And I adore James Spader. From his early work to his current Raymond Reddington character (not to mention the Secretary's boss, , , sigh) he's always excellent.

When I was in law school we all watched this religiously. Then came Suits which was nice addition. But Alan and Danny are unbeatable lawyers character-wise.

Awesome video, in every respect. Alan Shore is an icon, and James Spader is an absolute genius, and no other actor could ever have brought more to that character than he. In any role he plays, from "Two Days in the Vally", to "Boston Legal", to "Blacklist", ...James Spader has my respect FOREVER!

I sort of re-discovered it - I think I have seen a part of it years ago and then I watched now cos of recommendation. Wow! It immediately became one of my favourite films ever (and I don't watch them a lot). All around quality film from script to actors. Gyllenhaal and Spader are brilliant!

Sort of, but not so mean and misanthropic. I think he's the lawyer version of Hawkeye Pierce. Brilliant, funny, irreverent, cynical yet still rises to the ideal of helping those in need, iconoclastic, lovable philanderer. The show was basically MASH with lawyers instead of doctors.

It seems more Boston Legal to me, or at least half & half. Almost all of the sex scenes are B.L. along with the quips about "kidding", not to mention the zany costumes. I love both shows, too.

James Spader is truly an underestimated talent. While he played the same character on The Practice, Boston Legal and The Blacklist, he seems to make these characters look easy to portray. I can’t wait to see his next project.

It's more a testament to James Spader's awesome acting. He always finds some quirky traits in a character and somehow he translates this, through his mannerism and voice, into ambiguity. It intrigues us and makes us both love and dislike the character. Have not seen any other actor do this as well as Mr Spader.
