thank you for your kind way of telling: things will die and its ok, that doesn't make you a bad gardener. My husband an me have bought an old Farmhouse with really a lot of space in the garden. I really get goosebumps about "designing" our Garden. There is so much space and no structure, we have to start from zero! The mindset of:" things will go wrong and it's ok, try something else" really helped me out of my fear about starting this process! Thank you!!

I don’t have a garden (yet!) and came over to this channel from your reiki channel, and watch it often in the background while I crochet. I love the creativity and inspiration in this video, and watching you build/talk about your garden just adds to the coziness of my crochet! In the meantime, I’ll store all of this knowledge for my future garden :)

What a beautiful calm video and full of inspiration. Garden designs are endless and thats what I love so much about the garden space. Everyone could have the same size garden and absolutely come up with unlimited designs. Whether you like certain plants, or your lifestyle, there is a garden for everyone 🫶

Hi Anna! This was a fantastic video and I’m sure many will benefit from greatly! Beautiful ideas. You must have a creative/ artistic background. I made my garden just over 10 years ago. It is a perimeter garden, but it curves in and out creating little”rooms” within the yard. I have a flagstone path that leads to my patio which is shaded by my neighbor’s tree. This was the area I had most trouble with trying to figure out any designs. This is where I have incorporated the Japanese painted ferns and the foxgloves. I have asthma and can’t handle fragrances(😩)and had put mostly shrubs and trees whose colors would play off one another year round. I love using orange Japanese maples against blue tinged spruces, pines or junipers. Or purples with yellows. One of my most beautiful shrubs is a Diablo ninebark. It has the most gorgeous dark purple leaves, delicate pink flowers and turn a lovely shade in Fall. The ninebark winter interest is stunning too. I love the way their branches arch delicately too. Trying to add some of the pretty purple sages you recommended by my wild geraniums. Or maybe larkspur if I can get it to grow. I just love your garden - I call mine my happy place.
Please continue with these - I never had a garden prior to ten years ago and would be lost without it. ❤️

Love, love , love this video!
So informative and inspiring. This is usually the time gardeners start planning their garden layouts. Looking through plant catalogs and dreaming. I really want to put more climbing roses in my front garden, but it’s quite shaded. Been searching for roses that can thrive with little sun. Hard to find. But not giving up. 👍 Anyhow, thank you for sharing these ideas.

As for an out of the box idea ; if the sun is out of reach you need to climb up.
In your case that would be your rooftop ( dormer windows ), a roof garden / raised green house on the slope ?
Or maybe a tree house. ( although that wouldn't do much for gardening )

This is my first time on your channel, and I'm just absolutely flabbergasted! I'm in awe! I think this is the most beautiful garden I've ever seen in my life! I'm a beginner gardener, and I truly hope that I can learn a lot of things from you. Sending love from Romania 🌻🌷🌼

You are so easy to listen to & love all your tips. Your garden is beautiful, you should be so proud. Love the colours. We are very similar in our choice of plants. I'm in zone 5b Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 This will be my 5th gardening year. I'm a garden nerd who writes things down (HUGE HELP!!!) I write/take pictures/videos so I can see what works, what doesn't. Love watching new garden shows for inspiration, cheers 😊

I am so glad your channel popped up as recommended. As soon as I saw Hildene my interest peaked even more and realized you’re in my neck of the woods ( no pun intended) . Three years ago, we moved to the Monadnock region, in NH, from Massachusetts and I have been struggling with learning new gardening changes and challenges. I will be binge watching many of your videos for sure since we purchased an old home with many old overgrown gardens. I’m changing some, creating new ones, and trying to put my own personal stamp on the property with cottage gardens.

This is really inspiring! A quarter of my yard is under a large shade tree so the soil is hard and not even much grass grows. How can I approach this area?

Some ideas of videos I would like to hear from you would be: What are your favorite shade loving plants? Favorite son loving plants? Favorite low maintenance plants? Also your care routine for your garden? I have a beautiful protege garden with a window greenhouse and I've been trying to get a rose to climb an arch for a while. How do I do that? Also I am really struggling with voles eating my bulbs and roots of my perennials. What can I do about that? Also where do you like to buy your bulbs in your perennials? Can you supply some links? Just some ideas, I love your videos.

Also I would love to hear how to make one of your waffle fences. I live in East Tennessee and have a lot of rock here. A lot of my borders involve the rock that I dig up, but I love the concept of diversity and applying some of that concept to my garden.

Great video - I've been looking for something like this online for ages but just couldn't find it! I would love it if you could share some ideas for a long, thin garden - i.e. the opposite orientation to the one you showed here. Especially thinking a small garden - English mid-terrace, cottage style :) Thank you!

I have a design problem/challenge and would love to see the way you tackle it. I love the way you think when planning different zones within the garden. I have a 50x45 back yard that has to have 2 parking spaces, a garage/shed, lawn, seating area, and plenty of room for fruit trees/shrubs. There are various other site specific conditions in play.
What would be a good way to get in touch for help with a design?

How do you approach landscaping a very large yard? My yard is 2 acres and I'm finding it difficult to divide it up into rooms, or the rooms that it would logically be divided into are very very large.

My big problem is battling voles. One day I have a plant and the next day the plant looks short. When I go and look there's a hole under it where the entire root base is gone and the plant has fallen into where the root once was. I have lost nearly all of my hostas, lilies, cabbages, etc. I can see the tunnels in my yard even this winter.

Introduce cats. I have 2 sheds on the property where we take care of feral and stray cats in the area. We love them, and in return they kill all the rodents.
