Thank you for all of your great videos. I have learned a lot listening to you explain your process in the loading room and on the range. I really like your style and am inspired by what you do and how you do it. Wishing you and your family Happy Holidays!
If I could suggest, If you want hogs sour some corn, 5 gallon bucket 1/2 full of rolled or crushed feed corn, 2 packs of yeast, warm water to almost the top, cover lightly (Let air in) keep where it is warm and the wife won't kill you over the smell. Wait a week-two if it's not warm, when it stinks like old beer in the carpet add 3 packs grape koolaid. . . Now dig a post hole near your feeder, 2 1/2- 3 feet deep. . . and fill it with sour corn. Hogs that will leave a feeder after 2 minutes will stay for 2 hours rooting up that sour corn. Plus you can't mistake when there have been hogs, it looks like someone tried to dig a fox hole where your sour corn was.
I just found out about your content last weekend and I've been hooked ever since. Thank you for taking time out of your day to help us and pass your knowledge onto us, many of us are truly grateful!
Just FYI for anyone wandering how to know if a buck is 1.5 or 2.5 during hunting season is to look at the buck, then imagine that he doesn’t have antlers. At that point you are only looking at face, neck, legs, and over all body. If what you are now seeing looks like a doe with antlers, then you are looking at a 1.5 or maybe 2.5 year old buck. Basically a young buck looks like a doe with antlers in other words. At 3.5 bucks start to grow in body size and shoulder and hind quarters start to develop and no longer look like a doe with antlers.
The hunting you do to the hunting I do here in South Africa is SO DIFFERENT..... love to have you over!!!! So much verity here on our farm.Excellent rifle and shooting ! Love your videoes!
Me and my son were planning on holding off till the last day of the Wisconsin rifle unless we came across a trophy buck. Ended up passing on 2 does and didn't see anything after that. Thats definitely how it goes.
Cold bore shots replicate real world hunting experience. Bambi doesn’t let you take a fouling or practice shot. Like you my property in Bastrop is ran over with hogs but they sure don’t show up when you want them to. Unlike you, I’m not going to try and hit them at 400 yards. A hundred yards in my personal limit these days and I try for closer. When I was a young man, 45 years ago, I was on the rifle team and could keep things sub MOA all day long. I don’t see that well anymore, and I’m not nearly as steady, and I sure don’t want to have to track something I missed for a long ways. Plus that’s just not ethical. And I’m not crazy enough to go get a Title II weapon to hunt hogs because I’m a bad shot. I think one hole per animal should be the limit. But thanks for the videos. That nice 8 pointer might grow up to be a big one if another shooter or a Ford doesn’t get him first.
Just a thought, but you started shooting long range because of elk hunting. Why not eventually go back up to CO and complete what got you started in this? Just a thought. Elk hunting in the mountains is something spiritual and you’re more than welcome to tag along with my gang of military brothers I hunt with.
Liked the video. I have to say those turkeys looked very nice. I like the fact you hold off on those young bucks. They looked like they are going to be pretty big in a year or so. Good for the future stock. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and happy New Year.
I hunt mostly deer and we can’t have feeders or salt. It’s purely fair chase and it’s very tough. Often, you see zilch. So I understand about not shooting something every time. Sometimes I go an entire season! Keep after them, eventually they will show up. Good luck!
Eric; I've been watching some coverage of the COVID situation in Texas... BE CAREFUL MAN!! I don't care about those fools who say it's a hoax, it's not that big a deal...When the hospital wards in Houston, and El Paso, (and taking patients from other towns)are FULL, it's not a joke. So, I want to see you back, shooting, reloading, building houses, enjoying your life! Take care, have a nice quiet, safe, Christmas!
Great video, I've really been enjoying your content ! Your cold bore shots reminded me of a story about Carlos Hathcock's method of sighting a rifle. It's a good read for anyone interested. americanshootingjournal.com/carlos-hathcock-method-of-sighting-in-a-rifle/
I'd recommend my cousin's place down by Rio Grande City but Hardy is considering selling out so this might be the last deer season there. I think his next door neighbor is Tecomate and they will probably be the buyer.
Wow I never seen wild turkeys look like that. Is it the weather or location or have I just not looked at them close enough. I've seen them here in Florida on the side of the road but they were brown and thinner.
Yep, that's hunting, especially in Texas. I hunted the same lease in Southeast Texas for 5 years and only shot 1 doe and 2 pigs. Never even saw a legal buck. Then they raised the price so I got off the lease. I figure I'll save that money and put it towards a trip to another state where maybe I'll have more opportunity to kill something.
Shooting that far you also have to take into account the deers ability to move befor the bullet gets there. Like in archery a spooked deer can react in a crazy amount of speed! Like 1:10,000th of a second. I know at that distance you won't spook them but a hog or another deer could.
Like the ranch. The way you hunt people could take a lesson on how not to shoot anything with horns. Conservation is key. Where I live in Mississippi we have a deer overpopulated and need to thin some doe out but it is what it is. Way too many hogs but very hard to hunt them. Enjoyed the show
Here in eastern NC If I see anything like that deer at 5:01, I'm squeezing the trigger. I hunt public land and sometimes that deer is as good as it gets.
It is amazing how still you get before you fire. Not even a pixel.
Years of practice. :)

Very nice Erik. That young buck might have tempted me he looks like he'll be nice one in another year or two.
Thanks for hunting videos. That’s why they call it hunting for you don’t always get the one you want. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thanks for the dedication to your channel. I Always enjoy and look forward to your videos. Have a Merry Christmas.
Looks like a year and half old. First set of antlers. Gonna be a good one in the future
RWB right on. EC you're a good man letting them grow - conservative hunters save far more deer than they take.

2 yr old fo sho
Get a nice night vision scope and go out at night . Hogs that are hunted hard tend to come out at night time .
A green light illuminates them enough you can see them thru scope but doesn't spook them off,you can attach to your feeder

I sure hope the people learn the ethical hunting. Great content sir!

Fair chase = REAL hunting! TX bait and shoot is something altogether different
Great group Erik, good luck! 🦌🦌👍👍
yep, all good, I like, and respect, your approach... see you next time!

County I live in the bucks have to b min 13", which would put them just outside ears, or spikes, or one unforked antler, one of each or the other
I would like to hear your thoughts about Lapua Scenar L bullets and how they perform compared to other manufactures like Berger, Sierra...?
They are great Bullets.
@@ErikCortina Thanks for the answer! Keep going with that quality content! I have learned a lot from your videos. Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮.
Another great video
Keep um coming!
I've never hunted deer, are the smaller ones more tender? I suppose it depends on how you cook them and what recipes you had in mind.

Thank You... Would you buy again ?
Your group looks like one of those tests psychologists use.

5:19 thats is one good looking Stag. I would let him work for a few years, Hello ladies.
all good brother great philosophy
Good you let those bucks go. Let them mature.
Turkey at 480 yards👍🏼, that would be a sweet shot.
I let those go in south eastern NC
Unfortunately some people don't care, only that they get something
I see your video started with a commercial so I thought it was not suitable for everyone. RUclips is full of it lol
Eric, is this your land?
No. :(
@@ErikCortina good luck, have fun!!
Watermelon shoot😂?
Good meat brother!
