    You know me as the best travel hacker ever since the cows came home, it is time to demonstrate some of the best I have got: I flew British Airways First Class from London Heathrow to Chicago O'hare, for 760 dollars round trip, also a bit of Iberia Business Class as well. Truly, with a travel hacking skill, the world is my oyster. Welcome to my First Class review.

    If I were flying on BA first IN to London, can I use the Concorde room / lounge, or is it only departing pax? Thx

    • @beyounged
      @beyounged  Год назад

      theoretically, you can use it, but likely is that you will not be able to, because transit security requires you HAVE to have a flight departing from the terminal with Concorde room. I tried to access it once during transit after a first class flight and the machine refused to let me use my next flight boarding pass to change to a terminal that my flight does not depart from, and the people working there refused to let me go there even if I tell them I know how to get back. but your experience may vary.

    I flew business class between London and Gran Canaria via Madrid on Iberia a few weeks ago. But the food I got didn't look as nice as the one you got on your flight. Perhaps because I was on Iberia Express. I liked the lounge in Baraja Airport. It was so nice and quiet.
    Flying first class is aspirational. But in reality, I'm more than happy with business class; you get to travel in relative comfort and get a decent meal or two. A buffet in the lounge is fine. To be honest, I don't think I can cope with a three-course meal before boarding and then eat another large meal just a few hours afterwards. The old BA business class was revolutionary and it was great, especially upstairs in the old 747. Then I experienced Cathay's business class and it paled in comparison.
    Thanks for posting your video.

      Thanks so much for watching! I am not sure why you did not get good food in business class from LHR to MAD, as it is done by the very capable Do&Co, but of course it cannot match the first class section, yet it should look like the part between Madrid and London in this video. And you are absolutely correct that first class has kinda lost its glamor because business class as a whole has advanced so much, while first class stagnated. It is very easy to see how much BA's business class has come since its revolutionary lie flat debut in 747 to the suites today. Business has taken over the market of old first class and that is why most airlines are phasing it out. AA will phase it out soon as well. Now it is just a special occasion to celebrate or for celebrities to hide from masses. Era of first class is ending, folks who used to fly it are now on chartered private jets.

      @@beyounged Don't get me wrong. The meals served on Iberia Express were delicious. It's just that the presentation was quite a slick as on your flight. It could well be because were we on a smaller aircraft.

    • @beyounged
      @beyounged  Год назад

      Interesting, perhaps because on smaller regional jets they do not have kitchens and cannot heat up the food, and thus always comes as cold pre-plated ones? Of course if you are comparing regional business class to first class, it will be quite different.

      @@beyounged Both flights (LGW to MAD and MAD to LPA) were on A321 so the food was served hot, piping hot. Maybe your tray was bigger and so they could use oblong dishes. Mine were all rectangular and square to fit on a somewhat smaller tray.

    • @beyounged
      @beyounged  Год назад

      Hmmm very strange. Perhaps LGW had inferior catering? I know MAD has Do&Co and honestly that is as good as ot gets. On the way back I even did A350 LHR-MAD and it felt like long haul with food and seat.

    Purely for info, in the new style 1st class suite (you can tell the difference between old style has 3 rows of 4, in the 1, 2, 1 config, and new style has only 2 rows, same config) it has a door, a larger fixed screen that means the partner dining is no longer possible because of the position of the screen. I've been very lucky to fly both, and both are amazing, with service & food markable better than business but at a solo traveller the new suit with the larger screen is definitely my preferred layout.

    • @beyounged
      @beyounged  Год назад

      Yeah, service with mixed crew is generally way better. The face to face dining is mostly a gimmick as it gives little room for each person when you cram 2 people in one old suite. Lucky you as I have not even seen the new first suite in person! 😍

    • @paulfranks37
      @paulfranks37 Год назад

      @@beyounged I flew in the new 1st suite a few months back from LHR - Dubai (and return) so only a relatively short flight and the addition of the door for increased privacy (though I never found privacy a problem in the "old" 1st class seat when sitting down anyway) and the larger fixed screen which meant you could watch on the ground & during takeoff and landing were enough improvements over what I had already thoroughly enjoyed previously make the decision to fly 1st over business even more compelling. Add the first wing in LHR and the Conrcorde room too and if you can grab a bargain or use miles it's definitely worth it, to me at least :)

    • @beyounged
      @beyounged  Год назад

      Haha you are a rich man 😂. I find the new suites in business a huge step up and not usually worth the buy up. The new suites are extremely impressive, but not groundshattering. As you said, a bit better privacy and ergonomics, but not much imho.

    First (on the A380 anyway) is still superior to the club suites. The club suite door is a gimmick and adds zero privacy since your neighbour has no view of you when seated and anyone walking down the aisle can easily see over the top. More space in First and the bed is comfier. If you can afford it, First is still a superior product and feels more intimate than the club cabin which feels akin to being sat amongst a bunch of office cubicles.

      you are absolutely correct. but I still believe the distinction is so small that it barely justifies the enormous price gap. just my two cents.
