Nothing to do with Microsoft. Why do you say that? It is CrowdStrike as you correctly point out.

none of my home machines with Microsoft Defender crashed, only our business workstations and server VMs with CrowdStrike... but that was enough for several of us to waste all day Friday, off and on on the weekend and all day today un-f'ing our Windows machines so that our business could continue !

OK But what is the alternative? Each company builds and maintains its own software? It appeared like CrowdStrike, who did not test, AND then did NOT practice safe deployment. You test, test, test, and then deploy to small set, wait, deploy a small set, wait, repeat. That is like the standard practice, but seemed like none of those was done by CrowdStrike engineers.

Any changes that affect the kernel should have universal standards for production deployment. CrowdStrike have bad deployment hygiene and testing practices. Completely untrustworthy.

As retired IT guy, never push over any update without testing. 2. it is a good idea to have multiple operating systems on all workstations such as Linux and so on if the primary OS failing we can rely on the second OS. It appears this problem failed all Windows machines but not Linux or Macs

If Linux ran everything, it would eventually have a critical down moment like this too. Someone would drop the ball royally--in all likelihood, a for-profit central point of failure like this one. People get complacent. Companies cut corners for the bottom line. Murphy's Law applies to all systems and software.
