That last chorus is just insane. One the best vocal performances I've heard from her. The power!
I believe Floor is a empath... In a interview she spoke on joining the band and how herself and Tuomas had a sit down where Tuomas explained each of the songs, the personal meanings to himself, and the stories behind them... She was able to internalize and personalize the emotions of the songs which is absolutely essential to being able to perform songs that she didn't actually write. On beste Zangers she put on a masterclass of emotional connection to cover songs. She changed small lyrics to personalize the songs. You could tell she made it a priority to fine a way to connect to each song... In the end her versions we as emotionally impactful and authentic feeling as the originals and sometimes more so. It's a special gift floor has for sure.
Very interesting point! You may be right... I wondered myself why she has such an impact, when singing and performing. For me it is almost addictive, watching and listening to her performances. Even interviews... She is so in tune with everything she does, respectful always... A wellbalanced woman. I am convinced she is living her souls purpose. You can't get more genuine than that.
Banderezz Tony LaPore Lyrics Floor writes are really good and hit hard so there might be something to it, if she is not writing from her own experience that is.
I totally agree with you. There is no question about Floor being a singing nerd. Very technically proficiant. But if that stood alone she would not have the impact on people that she does. She's one of the best storytellers I've ever seen in a band / solo artist. In that regard I can't help but liken her to Geoff Tate and the very non rock Lara Fabian. As far as I remember she also had the musical bug in her younger years, and that certainly shines through.
I'm an empath and that's probably why I love her singing.
On Floor’s own channel she told the viewers that she is a High sensutive person. Which sound lot lika an empath.
I like the little gesture at 4:35 where Floor walks behind Marco, letting him shine with his vocals.
My favorite song from Wacken 2013. Never have you heard a frantic drum breakdown coupled with the frantic vocals of a legendary singer.
Whenever I hear Floor sing this sing, I get goosebumps. Every. Single. Time.
Floor's task is very interesting, honoring the songs in the flavor Tarja and Anette brought to the music for the fans but also keeping true to herself. Good thing the woman is playing with a full deck as she does the music and her band mates proud. Have fun during your visit to Canada.

What a perfect song. I feel like Floor is singing an aching, yearning, almost desperate love song written by another person for yet another person. Even though it may not be a personal song for her, you never doubt her conviction or desperation for the other person's love. Just amazing. She's the queen.

I was just like you curious what she gonna do with this song when the first time I watch this video. But I was speechless and hold my breath when Floor decided to sung it in difficult way with belting and sustaining those high notes, because using head voice is more easier with those high notes.

This is a brilliant track. She is so impressive, she does everything her way and I often find it to be great. (Tarja's version was more melodic, Floor's version to me is the right version.). Great reaction video, thank you

I used to think the Tarja's more opera version was the best but this has grown on me so much, I kind of prefer Floor's belting now! Like, that ending gives me the chills!

I don't know about you , but That last chorus takes my breath away. It sounds high and powerful. It puts an emphasis on this more commercial and radio friendly type of song. Have a safe trip to Canada. Bring some warm clothes and maybe a parka! Stay warm Lady Elvann!
I actually leave with about no clothes so I can bring back as many as I can from there. I left in January with only a suitcase of clothes and have been there for 10 months!

I've seen a lot of live performances by great musicians. Some say that Queen Live Aid is the greatest live performances, some say it's Hendrix In Woodstock 1969. But for me, Nightwish in WoA 2013 is the greatest live performances,
It's up there. Along with Slipknot at Download in '09.

Hands down your best reaction...loved the animated reaction and the sing along to the song it was great, love to hear this on the HARP I bet it would be epic!! A technical analysis that was a blast to listen to and enjoy because you were still a fan and really into the song despite the analytics, not something so easily accomplished!! Floor has said on multiple occasions that operatic is not het favorite style, so she only sings it when it's required. For instance, she did Stargazers (Wembly and Tampere lifeshows) in a more operatic style, but you can hear it's not her preference. Also in the opening act to The Greatest Show On Earth (Life @ Tampere) you can hear her trying to maintain that operatic voice, but slipping in and out of it the whole time.
That keyboard intro will always give me goosebumps, I suspect.
This is exactly how I felt the first time I heard how she performed it, and I’m 100% on the other side of the street after multiple listens, as I believe she simply made it her own. And wow, does she rock it. Despite being a lighter song overall, I feel the arrangement and instrumentation leave plenty of room for this type of interpretation, and for me, there’s no going back.
This is one of my fav Nightwish tracks. I love Floors voice sing this way. As ever your reaction was excellent. You seem to know all the Nightwish songs as you sing away with them. Maybe, I ask again could you record a cover version when you get back from Canada. Enjoy your vacation and take care x

I say Floor made it her song. I like her belt and flowy, uninterrupted singing more than Tarja's operatic style, who often gasps for air.
I lean on the Tarja version side too, but I still like this of course. It's just that especially after the key change it feels kind of too hard for this song. It's the same as the original otherwise, so only the vocals are sort of heavier (power metal belting). But I can also understand that somebody might like this version more too.

This was pretty good reaction video. It has become somewhat of a hobby of mine to watching people react to and break down what they like and don't like in a song. That being said I am going to become somewhat of a critic myself what bothers me the most is when singers and music critics take a clip of a 2 and a half hour live concert and and say well I think a little bit softer here or a bit more opera here as if this song was the whole performance, of the night when in fact if I remember correct it was the 5th song of the night ( what did she just finish singing 10 seconds before this song began?) was she on the right mark on the stage so the camera got the shot what song is he going to sing next. but in reality it was 7 minutes of a 2 hour show in front of 80,000 people being filmed and recorded in real time no cuts no retakes. now if this was say a live performance of just this one song then I myself would have wished for a little more here and there but over all this being her first tour with the band she nailed it over all. I hope you don't take this as an attack on you its just something that bothers me on these types of videos. I stand by what I first said it was a good reaction if just a bit out of context I hope to see more.

She sings it very differently in the Vehicle of Spirit recording from Wembley. I have a feeling you might like that one more.
Another great react! I love all three NW singers, although i favour Floor because she is a kind of a mix of Anette and Tarja, with extra power. lol. There are songs that i prefer other singers, for example this one and Sleeping Sun i prefer with Tarja. But Floor makes the songs her own and their are also amazing performances. Thanks for putting a smile o my face again.

@ 4:13 I'm not too sure but right when you said she doesn't go in the headvoice at all, it sounds to me that she's in her mix voice for pretty much the whole section there isn't she? Not pure head voice of course. I'm not sure tho?
Yeah she did go in mix voice at that moment but I was already listening to the next line when I realized I think!

I thought the mixing of the two registers was considered belting but people seem to use the term for chest belting as well? I'm a bit lost about it tbh

She push her limit while belting and sustaining those notes, it's hard to do something like that live in open air in front of thousands peoples.

Floor has sung this later in more heady style in the higher chorus notes ;) Wembley version has pretty good reference to this.
I don't think that she is more comfortable with belting than with her headvoice. Examples enough. This makes it much more energetic. It's (symphonic) metal you know.
One thing you have to realize is that at the time of this show at Wacken, Floor had only done maybe 20-25 shows with NightWish? Maybe less. She wasn't even a true member of the band yet. She was still trying to get her sound and performance just right. I think she slayed all songs by this point.

Floor is a remarkably adapt singer - her performances on the dutch Tv show Beste Zangers shows that she can adapt to a multitude of styles, though this song in particular i do prefer tarja's version. I've seen Floor perform live too with nightwish recently, my god she's one hell of a vocal beast - her performance during poet and the pendulum nearly reduced the entire arena to tears (Tuomas the keyboardist was uncontrollably crying at the end of that song too)

I like the Tarja era but it never got me deep into Nightwish. Neither did the Anette era, but when Floor joined - I was hooked and now I'm a fanatic. In my opinion Floor has made almost all songs better in my taste. There are still some of the old Tarja songs where I prefer Tarja over Floor, even though Floor does them complete justice when performed live.
Suggestions? Every Nightwish song you haven't reacted to yet. Seriously. Go at your own pace though, no need to feel rushed to do them all in a month. You seem to enjoy making them, and we seem to enjoy watching them.

The wembley version is more focused on her head voice technique, same with She is My Sin.

I really like that you really appreciate Floor (not that hard. Because she is amazing) But also don't forget your own taste. And dus analyse accordingly.
You got to remember that the songs had changed their composition after Tarja. A LOT of the changes was made to suit Anettes voice better. Then comes floor and elevates them to another level. :)

Yeah hello Elvann, great reaction from you! I really love this song, has been one of my all time favourites from Nightwish eversince... Tarja sung it originally in that operatic head voice mode, that was awesome too! I believe that Floor wanted to do something different, as she always makes the songs her own... And honestly, I'm no professional vocal expert, but strongly assume that performing this song in a whole belting mode, with such a powerful voice, looks extremly difficult for me! Please correct me, if I'm wrong... But anyway, I love your reaction and your analysis, I've seen many reaction channels doing Nightwish songs, and you are by far the best:-)
Thank youuu it's so sweet for you to say that!! It is difficult to achieve such control in belting, but also I think it has a big influence what you train yourself to be comfortable with. Belting is just not my thing as a singer so I'm likely to say that it's more difficult that someone who specifically trained and use belting all the time! :D
One thing I've noticed about this song...the whole crowd is clapping, noisy...and before she finishes the first sentence, there's SILENCE from over 82,000 people. I might be wrong, but my personal belief is that this is the moment when the crowd, many who were hearing her with Nightwish for the first time, became utterly enraptured with her. From that point on, they were hers.

I'm all aboard the Floor versions of the Tarja era, like Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, Ghost Love Score, etc, really love them and i hope to see her/them live in the post quarantine tour.
But I'm not gonna lie, maybe because of some sentimental attachment, I say this is Tarja song without even blinking. The End of an Era version of Ever Dream is a roller coaster of emotions, amazing stuff.

I don't think Floor could do more with this song as she does. It sure doesn't seem her favourite song, besides the last part.
We know she could do it in an operatic way but it had to be different from Tarja's version. Otherwise all the morons would point it as copying Tarja. Especially in 2013 she was still new and couldn't afford it yet..

I agree with you, i prefer the more operatic sound in the older songs. Guess that is why you don't hear Floor do many songs from Tarja's era because Floor has a more "popish" sound and the older songs was made for Tarja's operatic sound. Same with the songs Annette did. they where made to fit her so i think those sounds better with Annette's voice. With that said it doesn't mean i dislike Floor, just that some songs isn't really fit for her style.

For me, Floor stole GLS completely, but Tarja has kept hold of this song (just). Personal preference, that's all, no notion of "better" involved.
EXACTLY! I hate this fight between the best singer or not. Of course there are objective ways to say if a singer is technically better or not, but technique is NOT the ONLY criteria. Style preferences, emotional connection and history, personality of the singer etc. are some examples of other things.
The best singer on the planet doesn't exist. It's always going to be a matter of preference and we should appreciate artists for what they create and who they are.
I try to always respect that other people's taste will not match mine. If we both like something, then fine, let's chat about why we like it. If one of us doesn't, we can either discuss our differences (respectfully) or move onto another subject. I like Tarja's version; if someone else prefers Floor's, then I'm not going to tell them that they're wrong.
Like you say, it's not about better, it's about different and about personal preference. "Better" implies competition and competition has its place in sport, not music. The reason I liked Beste Zangers and hate other 'reality' shows comes down almost entirely to BZ's lack of that ritual humiliation at the end of each episode, where someone gets kicked off for not being good enough.

There is no doubt that Floor does a great job, and the song as a whole is way more polished than in the days of old.
But I feel that some of the emotion has left the song.
I think it was made a bit too "upbeat" with Floor. Like if the lyrics no longer match the music, if you know what I mean.
That's not exactly the feeling it leaves me personnally, it's mostly a tone thing for me, and less about the actual performance itself ^^
I disagree.
For me this has way more emotion than the original - raw, powerful emotion that leaves me breathless.

What I meant was that I always felt this is a rather sad song. And that it has lost some of its "sadness".
Tarja's use of head voice in this song sounds a lot more "longing" to me.
