Very confused on the section (16:30) about Structured Training, polar's structured workout builder allows for everything you stated. You can choose by "Duration, Distance, Calories, Race Pace, or 'Phased'" Phased in particular is where the real power is and I think is what you are asking for, where you can set a duration OR distance (or any mix of segments), and within those segments, choose the criteria to run each segment with (heart rate, speed, or power). You can use the "phased" option even if it's just for a single phase, to get those options for a single segment run.
So if you want to do a 5k, at a particular pace zone (that IS one limitation, you can't specify an exact value, but you CAN modify your pace zones in your profile, so that the matching zone is exactly what you want)...
So for example, setup a 5k/3.11 mi distance, with speed zone 3. In running profile, adjust speed zones so speed zone 3 is 7:20-7:30/mile, (or whatever works for you), and then you have it. Perfect? No, definitely not, but it does get it done with some fiddling.
If you just want a race pace though, that race pace function is exactly what you'd want, set it for 7:12/mile and it'll let you know if you are above/below pace and by how much (would be nice if that could be done in the "Phased training" zones, for sure).
Final thought, the black bezel, agreed, it's not "pretty" (others also have this to varying degrees) the trick is, that's where their antenna circuits wrap around under the glass. They could probably in theory reduce that, and move the antennae under the display, but that may (likely would) affect reception quality, and likely thickness as well. Always some tradeoffs. Anyhow, just some thoughts so far (not quite done yet).

Question about Nightly recharge and ability to turn it off in order to increase battery life. At around 13:10, Kieran mentions sleep tracking can't be turned off. However, the user manual suggests you actually can turn "Continous HR" off in Settings > General
settings > Continuous HR tracking, which I believe will automatically turn sleep tracking off. Was this a new firmware upgrade, was this overseen in this review, or am I confusing things here? I'm keen to get my hands on a pacer pro but short battery life would be a no go. I don't care too much about sleep tracking. Would appreciate any clarification!

Hi Nick, funny you said Garmin's race predictor is pessimistic. My FR 245 says I can do 19min 5K, but my PB is closer to 25mins.

I've been wanting this for a month but held back. But the basic Pacer started shipping today from Polar directly and because I'll always be running with either my smartwatch or phone, I figured I don't need the navigation, nor do I have use of power metering, because interpreting that data would either require a coach or getting a Stryd, the latter which can be paired with the basic Pacer anyway. So saved a bit of money there.

Yeah the Pacer is def great value if you don’t need the navi

I train with Power for my endurance running and run with Stryd. So Polar / Wahoo Rival / Suunto work best because they have native power support when paired with the sensor (or if using Polar's builtin). I find the current approach of Stryd App + Garmin watch really lacking, especially since it doesn't record everything that the normal running app will collect. And I really really don't like to use the Stryd app. So until Garmin ups their support for Power for running, maybe with 955 and software updates, I'll stick with a watch like Polar that supports run Power natively.

Same for me, I hate the large blank bezel around watch, outdated. Same annoying strap since silicon makes water bells on my skin. I hate to allergizing silicone straps.

I don't necessaitly want a running watch, more an activity tracker so records steps, sleep and my daily workouts. At the moment I use a polar chaest strap- I have done for years and i like it- but feel like I want to have a watch to track additional info rather than have a separate smartwatch. What would be the best polar watch in my case?

hi, I would like to know if there is the possibility to read on the display the number of weekly or monthly kilometers separated from the daily activity, without having to make calculations. thank you

What would you recommend for a budget, durable plus daily shoe for easy miles as part of a marathon prep, currently got pegasus 38s and endorphin speed 2s and want a soft shoe for my slow stuff, thanks!

Hi Luke, the Puma Velocity Nitro 2 would work well for that, if £100 is in the budget (sometimes cheaper with codes)

Hi guys, which watch would you pick between Pacer Pro and Coros Pace 2? I'm currently using the Vantage M1. Thanks!!

    • @TheRunTesters
      @TheRunTesters  2 года назад +1

It’s close! If navigation isn’t needed I’d (Nick) get the Coros. Polar training analysis and sleep tracking also better, but I don’t use that too much myself

Please never ever buy polar watches. I bought vantage and pacer pro. It is a nightmare to sync the watch with my phone. Random glitches . Got my watch replaced twice. Resets randomly where you lose all your data that is not synced yet. Horrible.

Yeah, syncing is hit and miss on Pacer Pro.

No problem with syncing. Anyways, your advice is terrible, since Polar watches are top notch.

This Watch sounds awful for the £££ in todays over crowded market, sub £150 watch for me
