I've ALWAYS needed something on the back of my phone to let ME know I'm playing a game...lol
I switched from the ROG's to the Red Magic 7 and never looked back.
You can, literally, get 3 Red Magics for the save price as the ROG.
I moved to the 8 last year and will move to the 9 this year.
How's the software? Do you get regular security udates?
Зря , рог фон лучше во всем !!!
16/512 red magic is 800, 16/512 ROG is 1200. 800 doesn't fit in 1200 3 times. ROG has a better screen but RM has a bigger battery.
@@retaeiyu6337 Try to buy the ROG for that price in Canada, especially when they first come out. Why do you think I made the switch in the first place? I switched BECAUSE THE ROG WAS 3 TIMES THE PRICE at the time I needed a phone.
@@retaeiyu6337 Without knowing im also pretty sure the Asus phone will recieve updates for a longer time than the redmagic \o/
I still have the 5 model. It still runs pretty well for my use case.
Dude this looks so compelling, awesome video
Only if they had the ESS DAc back with Front Firing Speakers and a SD Card Slot (Its a Must)
The Price would've been Justified
Waiting for the Day to Play PC Games on Gaming Phones like this
They should start collaborating with Developers for Bringing PC Games on this Beast
It's already possible with emulators, you only need to search a bit on RUclips
@jfr7777 Yeah man I know Emulation but the Cost of this Phone is Higher than My i7 11th 3050 Laptop itself which Runs AA and AAA Smooth in 1080p
I get it its a Phone, a Camera but the 1TB of Storage needs to be used for Games too not only 4K 8K Videos.
And there are lot of PC Games under 50-60GB which must be brought to Android for making leaps in Mobile Gaming (I want to get Rid of heavy machines for gaming)
@@adityapathak2046 yeah there is a problem on the software side with arm devices and it's a shame
SD is not a must, you can buy an OTG cable or dock
@@IdiawesKarapersonally it's not convenient carrying an OTG or dock every where??
In the toilet??
Plane??
At a friend's house??
An sd card is much better
Using ROG Phone 7 (last year) since my ROG Phone 1 died (5 years), still a beast of a smartphone and might take a long while to upgrade (Maybe to ROG Phone 10 perhaps).
I would like a comparison between this one vs Redmagic, at least for the temps
Can't wait to upgrade my phone. But I think I'll get the Red Magic 9 Pro instead. I think I'd rather have the extra 1,000Mah vs the extra RAM. Also, the flat back is more appealing to me, unless ASUS put in some SERIOUS camera tech in their phone, I just don't need or want some huge camera bump. Also, having the underscreen selfie camera, even if the quality suffers a little bit, is MUCH more appealing to me, vs having a hole punched out of the main display. Also, the extra 20w of charging really helps with the lack of wireless charging.
I feel like this is more of a modest update from ASUS, at least when compared to the Red Magic 9. The extra RAM would be nice....if there was anything that would come close to using it. But by the time there are scenarios that would require someone to have more than 16 gigs, This phone will be a couple years old, and the ROG Phone 10/11/12 will be out.
Worst of all, the ASUS ROG Phone 8 pro costs $1,200. When the Red Magic 9 Pro is only $800. I honestly do not see a $400 difference between the phones.
When the Red Magic 9 was announced, I was drooling at the idea of what ASUS would do with their next ROG phone. Sadly, they have left me disappointed, Especially with the $400 premium.
And I'm not an Asus hater. I run a lot of ASUS parts in my PC ( including a $1,000 motherboard ), and I bought my wife the newest ASUS Zenfone.
Agreed this model at least is just so overkill it shoots itself in the foot imo
There is a switch emulator that consumes so much ram, depending on the games. Also, there is cassia in development [ it's basically just letting you emulate Windows games on your android], so it must be eat a lot of ram.
But yeah, it's overkill for people who just want native android gaming or just fast android phone
1000 euros mobo? Ahahhaah dude, you don't like money
Lol no dude. I wanted the redmagic but the lack water any water resistance and buggy/not updated support makes it a no go. Imagine your phone breaking because of 1 drop of water, or not even being able to use it as a phone. Look at people who have bought them, their first one is usually their last one. Shame because it really is a cool device
@@MallocFree90 Euros? No US dollars. And I more than had the money to afford this motherboard. Yeah, it was overkill. But it has all the features I want, and I won't have to worry about the motherboard holding me back, if I upgrade my cpu ( 7950x ).
Keep up your videos love them 👍
What's the name of the key mapper you used on Genshin? Great video, would be nice to see some Switch games as well but I suppose there's a good reason behind their absence.
i was hoping you was going to show off the difference the cooler would make on frozen setting
11:10 I love it how you ckeep this certain amount of battery percentage XD
I wish these spec were in the LG Wing. Then LG could be back in the cellphone game.
Like the red magic especially the cooler built in itself. ROG user here it easily get hot.
Because of the price I’m considering the latest Redmagic phone with the same chip
agreed
I was thinking the same thing, the console mode and control mapping built in on the Redmagic is kinda nice.
Or buy steam deck?
@@itsdoctormichaelmorbius6889 They want a phone, not a big handheld
@@josedelpino4854 so you guys are MOBILE gamer then🤣
I own the 6, and every model has been a downgrade.
No more dual front facing speakers, 5 last one with the DAC, etc.
Design is more minimalistic which some may like, but this is geared towards gamers so I don't know.
Not sure why they keep removing unique features that people love.
Probably because not everyone loves them.
You don't need an extra DAC since the newer chips have Hi-res 96 KHz/24-bit Snapdragon Sound
@@linkxx1982implementation is the keyword, and most android phone manufacturer rarely do that. Given bootloader unlock and rooting are started to extinct, it only make it harder or almost impossible to utilises the Qcom DAC fully. The only phone that implement it best that come to mind is LG, and they use ESS instead of Qcom WCDxxx. Sadly LG is done in mobile world. 😢
@@linkxx1982 and sounded as good? Can you help confirm?
Wow you can bypass charge. I completely missed that. That's really nice.
the cleanest design ever seen on a rog phone
at a first glance you won't say that's a freakin gaming phone I like it
At this point, the steam deck should just add a cellular modem so it can be used as a cell phone too and call it a day
That’s the one feature that held me back from getting one, so I got a tab s9 instead and couldn’t be happier. Better screen very portable battery last all day.
That’s the one feature that held me back from getting one, so I got a tab s9 instead and couldn’t be happier. Better screen very portable battery last all day.
buy a tablet; they already have cel data, and there's good VOIP options. All we need is one with the next gen spec set-up.
@@_bob_8170your s9 doesn't run steam os pc games though. Not even comparable
@@jponz85wow you can play old pc games at potato settings at crappy resolution while barely getting 60 FPS and only being able to play for 2 hours tops before the battery dies and if you want better performance and battery life and by better performing I mean " 5 FPS more " you better plug that bad boy ... If that's what it means to be able to be a " portable gamer " then nah I would rather spend that $700 on a ps5 or a series X and a full year of game pass and I'd still have some change left 🤦♂️
looks like a very cool phone, would love to see some more testing on it!
ETA Prime won't do that, he's more of a showcasing channel. You'd have to look elsewhere.
I have the 7 ultimate, I might wait for the 9 when it comes out. Also I kinda wish they kept the vision like on the 7u
When I heard that 0:11 it took my brain several minutes to process that info 😵
Does the regular ROG Phone 8 have dual trigger mapping on both sides as well?
What was the mapping software you used for Genshin Impact?
Motorola has some smart security radios that have a similar dot matrix display like on the rear of this gaming smartphone. The Motorola smart radios allow you to communicate over cellular and Wi-Fi, link with your phones for updates, read simple text alerts or messages, charge the phone, other cool tricks. Can the phone's internal storage be replaced when it dies?
just got the 7 non ultimate and happy as can be with it so far :)
How's the performance now in 2024? No noticeable slowdowns?
@@carlsenson nope :)
What mapper do you use for Genshin? Mantis?
Yes ofc I wanna see the hdmi out. Can it power higher than 1080p?
Can this be connected to a keyboard and an external monitor to work as a desktop-laptop replacement? It definitely has better specs than my on desktop.
It will be interesting to see few Switch games emulation, since I guess that this version of the Snapdragon with all the ram installed, should handle them as a piece of cake. Thanks as usial for your complete ed accurate review. The question is if this huge amount of money worth the purchase of thie phone (to be used mainly as a console) or it it's better to wait for an Odin 3 or other heandheld android devices that will be presented using the same Snapdragon Gen 3.
I own a ROG phone, its not a suitable gaming device because it can heat up if you stresses it. Wait for dedicated device with proper cooling, i use it purely for the 6000mAh battery, this generation they downgrade it which is bad.
I might be wrong but I think Yuzu is still working on the Gen 3 support so probably not the best time for this yet
@@jackykwan2580 Thank you, very useful.
@@TheLightningFenix thanks for your feedback, I guess you are right and times are not the proper ones yet.
They shoulda made a good backbone controller with that cooler built in.
agreed!
Looks like a excellent phone with one major flaw, the offset usb c port renders many telescopic controllers(like the Galileo G8) useless.
why? and why that's a problem?
I know right, major miss as I won't really be using the touchscreen controls unless I'm really in a pinch and can't use a controller.
It would be nice to see if it can output 4k 120 fps video. Thanks.
Is it possible to physically connect a third party controller like the Razer Kishi and the cooler at the same time?
Thank you for the emulation benchmark. I really need a good emulator phone.
Could You show us possibilities of connection it to external display? I'm using Rog 6 and I have a really problems with screen aspect. I'm using external application to cut screen to 16:9 but it's not a perfect sulution.
On your opinion whats the best? This one or the Red Magic 9 pro?
How many Windows 7 era video games (PS3/Xbox360/PC) were ported to mobile?
I wish these gaming phones had expandable storage. Which is useful for most mobile games and emulation. And with 2tb card on the way. You'd have 3tb of storage.
there are controller docks with an sd card slot, you could use that to store emulation images/isos
Like the headphones jack
Are the air triggers and aeroactiv cooler triggers mappable for emulators??
Still got the rog 3 love it too bits it's the last device to have the really bright logo on the back
My wish is having phone with PC specs like a ROG Ally in a phone form factor
Any info about the battery being 5500mah but at what voltage, 3.7 or 5? (5500mah at 3.7v = 20.35wh / 5500mah at 5v = 27.5wh) (like 40% more if it's at 5v)
Crazy what phones can do these days, I have an S23+ and that small thing is packing so much performance I can´t imagine what this beast can do
Too bad iPhone getting the best games re village. Re4 death stranding etc
@@IEM_Unbox_Reviewwho cares they don't have emulation and who said android wasn't getting there own share of greate title also you talking like everyone can afford a highest end iphone my guy what your gonna buy the highest end iphone for a few games extremely dumb.😂😂🤡🤡

Make a video comparing this vs the redmagic 9 pro running switch emulator or la vita3k emulator
Do the Realme GT6 next ..... i want to see .... i like your reviews
Red magic 9 pro is half the price of this ,honestly im lost with ASUS ,they have zero idea about what they are doing with their gaming phones.
Very true, I like the Redmagic 9 Pro better 🤷🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
I just got a red magic 9 pro the other day! Can’t wait to get it
I agree with you the Highest spec costs 1500$ like why. The red magic is about 600$ less and have about 90% of this phone and honestly a well priced

does this phones 65w charger enable turbo mode on the rog ally?
How the thermal Sir ETA with max settings on game w/o Aero Cooler 😊
The only cool thing I see from this is the double map-able pressure sensitive triggers.
Very cool, 24GB would make a very nice home for a good LLM.
Would love to see Yuzu and Skyline emulation on this device 🙏
My phone runs Rogue Squadron @1080p full speed. I just disabled dual core.
Can you please try the New Poco X6 Pro Android Gaming and Emulation? Thanks
So will cod run run higher than 60 fps on any other phone yet or just this one? I've got a galaxy 23 plus and I can't seem to get it to go any higher than 60.
Can't wait to see your review of the news ASUS ROG NUC
man, wish these had a good phone plan where i live. i got to buy it outright, and its expensive.
“…and as always, thx for watching”
-AH! There it is!
😂😂❤💪🏽
WOW! 24GB of RAM? Thank you for this review.
you will try the MSI Claw ?
What about switch emulation?
Do the air triggers work with PUBG AND call of duty?
Yes since the ROG 2 I had it worked!
Can i ask what 3rd party software do you use to get genshin working with the Xbox controller?
Octopus, Mantis. You could Google it.
17:34 Nice specs and all but this phone can heat up pretty fast. If you want to dock it or use it as emulation machine, the red magic with active cooling performs way better albeit with buggy software. Its awesome however as daily driver but they downgraded the battery from 6000mAh so its a minus. The ROG 7 ultimate edition with the open latch at the back is a better choice because the cooler can directly blow air into the vents for more efficient cooling.
One more HUGE minus is the usbc port at the bottom of the phone is off center to force users to buy their expensive kunai controllers so people cannot use Gamesir or 3rd party controller. I wouldnt recommend this phone if you want to use it for gaming.
i think you just forgot ROG phones have copper heat pipes that is pretty useful to bring the heat away from the CPU
That's not true though. The RM9 throttles much faster than the ROG 8 in the reviews that I've seen.
I read an article where they said that they are finding it harder to make gaming phones with the competition from other brands
Newer chips are so efficient that gaming phones are kinda redundant. In real life gaming they barely go over 5Ws so a fan is over kill unless you play for 3+ hrs. The only plus this will have over a regular phone will be its massive battery.
The battery isn't as big as the previous models.
The one I have 6000mah this one has 5500mah.
Yes I get what you mean.
I bought the rog phone 3 because I go into hospital a lot & it gets boring but i don't use the fan as much.
I love the custom colour rgb logo.
Not surprised at their prices.
It's all about sustained performance here as all the Snap Dragon 8 gen 3 phones release this year throttle heavily after 10 minutes.
@@bitterbuffalo8997 mine doesn't.
I like to see the base model. Ram and storage?
12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage
Wonder what camera specs are like?

@@IEM_Unbox_ReviewAnd that game looks awful
6:22 wait is CROB support 165hz?
Wish I could upgrade, my S20 FE sucks. Unfortunately, all of the phones you’ve been reviewing, as much as I like them, lack an SD card slot, while the ones with an SD card slot have cheap or old chipsets.
The Sony Xperia 1 Mark V still has a Micro SD slot. It's 8G2 powered. I'm not sure when the 1 Mark VI with the 8G3 is coming out.
Be careful with the temps on that thing, it can cause literal burns on your hands near the antenna bands
@ETAPRIME What was your 3rd party mapper please
No desktop mode?
now this actually makes me cosider upgradng from my ROG Phone 5... but, will need to know how it fares in JerryRig's torture test
Don't yet bro the 5 is just as fast but the triggers work for the 5 the 8 there pressure sensitive and they actually don't work right for cod or any fps if you put a slight bit of force they randomly get stuck and don't fire right
how is the camera?
This seems like the fastest benchmarked SDG3 phone and with the best sustained stress test results.
Wow, that is a lot of power in that little device and I’m still rocking my i3 7100 16gram No graphics card😅
"This will run anything you throw at it" - Okay now I need to know, does it run Windows 11 for ARM?
I would like to see this in the form of a tablet
All that power, no desktop mode, but at least has video out
Does this phone have dock mode/ like dex?
Man, I can't believe that Hoyoverse still does not have Gamepad input support for the Android version of Genshin Impact, its been freaking 3 years now since the global release on September 2020, how much more time do they need to do something so freaking simple, I just can't believe that people choose to play that game, even after Hoyoverse has not provided not even half of the stuff they promised to do, I'm glad I stopped playing for over a year now.
2:33 You had me at 3.5mm headphone and sd card slot. I stopped buying Samsung because they removed both, good to have an alternative again!
4:23 Is this an laptop ? Can it run ProxMox? lol
I may lost my argument to people that PC still important when nowadays smartphones start to have ability to play those AAA games directly ( and quality sure will be improved in the future)
Based on the placement of the USB-C charging port, this isn't compatible with popular controller cases. That's kind of disappointing.
Why they keep making the usb c port off to thw side?
The only thing about all these great specs is there really is not much that can take advantage of it. Sure you can emulate Switch and PS2/GameCube and below but you can also do that on devices that cost WAY less then this phone. As much as I hate that I cannot emulate on my iPhone 15 Pro Max (at least not as easily as on Android) I can say that Apple porting actual AAA games to their phones is awesome and really a big step forward. Even as an iPhone user since the 3GS I was unsure about them porting games like RE Village to iPhone but after actually playing them and experiencing it I can say that I really do hope they continue releasing games... I find myself playing them WAY more then I thought I would.
Winlator can run some older PC games. Might be able to take advantage of that
You can emulate on iPhone but it’s a pain you need a pc or mac to do it and refresh apps every 7 days. To the price your right but emulation on android is just very convenient.
@@robmalcolm8042 Yeah I’ve done it. It’s ok but a pain and I’d rather just use a dedicated handheld. Plus the only emulators that work well on iPhone are older systems that can be emulated on anything and PPSSPP. I just use an old Samsung S20 FE (which has a Snapdragon 865) or my Odin Lite that both have Android if I want to emulate.
What about pc emulators on android?
All ROG everything
They should've had the top model and still give us a SD slot. ;)
The phone looks beautifull, but what really grinds my gears is that the ASUS did not make it compatible with kunai gamepad... what a shame :(
I YELL WHEN I SAW SLY COOPER 🤩🤩 16:37
Anime is quite popular in Taiwan, so this checks out.
The days of having to spend over 1000 for a phone with a fast chipset are well and truly over as mentioned by most in these comments the red magic 9 pro offers most of the functionality of this at half the price. So I cannot see this selling well.
This looks nice 🙂
