Installing a Furrion Chill RV Roof A/C Complete System

- Today I am removing an old worn out Carrier RV roof A/C and replacing it with a 15.5k BTU Furrion Chill RV roof A/C. Normally, a RV roof A/C replacement is an easy 1 hour job, but because Carrier A/Cs don't have a wired wall thermostat, I need to run wires and install one. And because the Carrier A/C is obsolete, the controller and plenum needs to be replaced too. My customer and I decided on the Furrion product because it was available and because it's a good system. So join me on another RV roof A/C job.
Thanks for watching!

You have a lot of faith in that ladder, hats off on another job well done 👍
Thanks 👍even with the A/C I'm still very far under the weight limit of the ladder, let alone those crazy thin aluminum RV ladders installed on the rear of units.
Dang! If you don’t already struggle with back issues I guarantee you will have them in the future with the way you get the AC units on top of the motorhomes. It’s not the age it’s the mileage you put on your body. 😳😣 Like watching your channel and learning. Be safe. 🙏🏼
How did you know that I was about to replace a Carrier AC with a furrion chill? 😃 Thanks so much for doing what you do!
Happy to help!
Google knows everything 👁
Hey James, don't forget to take some time off to enjoy your own Beaver, not just use it as a power source!
Was this a dirty joke?
I mean, it could have been but I know what he meant
Dang. James you get three punches in the man card for hoisting that AC unit up there. Well done you.
I'm on my 3rd Man card
@@AZExpert 🤣
You need a lift of some kind for these larger projects. Thanks for sharing, you make this look so easy.
I do most definitely
The dropping of the tools got me! Lol! I do that constantly…it’s almost a habit. I have installed a few of the Furrions. They are awesome.
I dumped all the sockets... :)
I'm so glad you showed the wire routing trick using a cut off fish tape and a drill. That's definitely a trick which is going to come in handy for me at some point. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
I've really enjoyed your last two videos. They showcased your logic, craftsmanship and concern for your clients. I found humor in the stress over the thermostat location. My OCD would have notched the wall stud so the thermostat could have been placed mid-panel.
Thank you so much for sharing your work with us. I'm constantly amazed at what you reveal, while telling myself I should have known that.
LOL Thanks for watching! :)
I'll just say this about the Furrion Chill. 2 years ago I ordered one from ETrailer to replace our inadequate Coleman Mach 13k btu. The Furrion arrived at my house busted in multiple spots due to all the plastic in the cover and pan. I sent it back and ordered another. It arrived in even worse shape. I would have picked it up in person, but they were not allowing that due to Covid protocols. I then cancelled the order and went to a local RV dealer and ordered a Dometic Brisk 2 15k btu. Yes, it has the capacitive touch thermostat, but if you use it correctly and don't press on it like you're pressing a button it's fine. This is explained in the owners manual and has not been an issue for us. Also, it has a metal pan and is more robustly built than the 2 busted Furrions I have seen. That's been over a year and I have not looked back. I see a lot of new trailers have switched to Furrion. I wonder if this is simply due to supply issues or something else. Regardless, I am personally not impressed with the way the Furrion units are built. Their features look good on paper, but time will tell how they hold up.
We installed one on our travel trailer and had an issue with the controller going bad on it. We contacted Furion and there team was a joy to work with trying to troubleshoot the issue. They provided the controller and thermostat under warranty without any hassle.
That is great to hear
It’s an absolute pleasure watching you repair something that for me would be a nightmare 😬 You made it look so easy so when I get my motorhome guess where I’ll be coming!
Thank you for letting us share your work as what appeared to be such a serious problem turned into a breeze 💨 I’m impressed James 😉🥂💫
Thanks Lorrie!
James, recognizing all the work going into not just the replacement of the a/c unit but the time spent editing this installment as well, I had to watch every commercial knowing just what all you went threw to make this a professional installment.
Great job on the installation as well as the editing. 👍👍
Thank you. I forgot to remove the massive amount of commercial breaks youtube puts in so hopefully its better now.
@@AZExpert I'm doing a membrane on a jayco got it off but it very sticky with old glue what's the best way to prep ? Appreciate it.
Geez, I missed this repair James, You did a excellent job, Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
“It’s always better to be lucky than good…”
I subscribed right after that statement. 🤪
I sure hope you stay hydrated, love your videos.
Thanks for watching! :)
Before hauling that thing up, be sure to check your ladder rating, folks!
Fishing wire is my least favorite thing to do. You make it look easy.
Thanks for watching! :)
Great work !!! Loved the outtakes at the end, just reminds us all that you have a lot of work to do after your job is done with the editing for RUclips. Thanks for all your hard work.
Thanks a ton!
What an informative video. Great job guy.
We at CT Mobile RV out of Millbrook Alabama installed over 50 of these this year. We love them and is the only unit we sell. Also we have never had an service call on them. We have measured 31 degree air coming out of the vents
Thats very encouraging to hear. Thank you!
Very neat install James.
Thanks for watching! :)
I changed out all 3 airs on our toy hauler to power-saver Coleman units last month. I wanted to run all 3 airs with the generator, and sometimes two airs would trip a breaker (forget about starting 3....). Successful, BTW. The power-saver units are REALLY light on the power consumption. Weirdly the power-saver 13.5K units also seem to blow colder than the Mach 15 units it came with.
The first one, we made a sled to slide it up the ladder. That worked, but it sucked. The next two I carried up on my shoulder. It was tough, and I could have dropped one, but it was easier than the sled idea by far...
We have one 15k power saver and a 13.5 power saver. Runs on 30a service just fine. Can even use the microwave at the same time.
Using that piece of fish tape on the drill was very cool. Will be stealing that idea 🙂 Excellent work!
Thanks for watching! :)
Was great to see you use the wago connectors, been using them for a few years now.
The best
I replaced my original colmans 1@ 19 years old and one at 21 years old ….with the power saver Mach 3 13.5 BTU no heat pump at a max draw of 10 amps on high…which I need as I have a 30 amp coach with two ac I hope they run as long as the originals…
You always do such nice installs. You always go the extra steps to make it neat and clean and work properly. It’s a shame more techs and service centers don’t do the same. Very nice work.
Thanks Ronald
Wow I have to hand it to you. I just replaced my roof ac and I had my 2 20 year old boys help me pull it up!! Super man lol!!
Thanks for watching! :)
Great video James! I liked seeing you open up the wall and put new wires in the ceiling. If I ever have to do it... Hope not!😁
That *fish-tape as a drill bit* -- genius!
thank you, I guess I misplaced my previous flexible bit and had to improvise
I installed a Furrion AC and replaced the dometic thermostat with a cheap battery powered backlit house thermostat. It works great. I added a manual low/high fan switch to the top of the thermostat. This was when parts were really hard to come by and I couldn't get a Furrion thermostat. Pretty cool feature of the Furrion to support that. Furnace works great too connected through the control box.
Great tip!
Great video! Thanks man.
Thank you
Yes I like these “get it done”repair videos of yours. Thanks buddy.

I bet this ac change and all your knowledge to seal everything up (which some repair places would skip because you would never see it) will be a huge upgrade. Great job 😎👍
Thanks for watching! :)
Always awesome watching an artist at work.
Thanks for watching! :)
Excellent work and love the full length repair!
Thanks for watching! :)
I really enjoy watching your videos. Definitely learning a lot more about RV repairs.

Thanks 👍
That is a nice looking AC, and a super clean and professional installation.
Its nice to see that Furrion makes something good. I have had nothing but issues with their Stoves and Convection Ovens.
Love your workmanship and attention to detail. You've earned another subscriber.
Most awesome install.
Love the bloopers…
Glad you enjoyed it
Great job James! Super enjoyable to watch and learn!

Great job, I appreciate your attention to detail. The owners are going to be very happy with the new unit.
Hope so!
Great video! I have the exact RV and AC unit I had to fix last year with a new solenoid that was hard to find. Now I can follow this for my upgrade.

Nice job James that furrion ac is super quiet if my 2006 dometic goes for a crap 💩 I would probably go with that one thanks 😊
Thanks for watching! :)
Excellent video as always. Perfect amount of detail.
Thanks!!
Nice and informative. I do all my own work due to perfectionism, however, I would hire you. Great job. Subscribed!
Welcome! We like to have fun here
You make it look so easy. Thanks for the current draw test at full compressor load. Real world info like that gives us DIY'ers valuable lithium battery / solar system planning info because the manufacturers test these units in a lab where they are not installed to duct work etc.
Thanks James.
This is a great channel bro. Nobody shows this stuff.
Thanks for watching! :)
excellent work, very professional and high quality
Great job! And he does it all mostly One-Handed! Thx!
LOL yes I do
Nice work. Thanks for sharing this. 🍻✌
Great work sir! I appreciate your videos and information!!! Thank you very much for all your videos!!! You do outstanding work sir…great install and even a great cleanup. I wish you were closer to Michigan!!!! Safe travels!!!

Thanks for watching! :)
Very good work. A bit tedious for a normal Jo like me but then, if you need to do it, then, you have to do it. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching! :)
Nice job James, I really like your smart work since!!! You always do an amazing job!!!
Thanks for watching! :)
Just bought the 15,000 BTU based on this video to try in my Wanderlodge 95WB42
Ok, hear me out, there is a temp sensor on the first generation one's in the ceiling package and I had to extend the harness and move it outside the plenum to get a good reading. The 2nd generation has the sensor in the wall tstat where it should be. I unfortunately was not able to make a follow up video, so hopefully this helps.
@AZExpert thanks! I will check mine. It just arrived so I hope it is a 2nd generation!
Love your videos!! Very informative and full of suspense! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching! :)
I has a Carrier 135k ac on my personal tt. A customer of mine with a Tiffi8an bus bought a Brisk Air 2 by mistake and sold to me for 200 bucks! So before heading to Florida I swapped it out. But here's the kicker, an Outbak has remote controls and since I work on Rvs everyday I didn't really feel like putting in new thermostats. Found an adapter wire harness for 150 bucks which is a rip off but works like a champ. The big plus is the Brisk air is a 15k a/c which made wifey happy when we in 100 degree heat. It's 23krs front loading toy hauler so blowing ice cubes in that small space really saved my ass.. Btw the Carrier was perfect and sold for more than what I paid for the dometic a/c
Awesome!
Take us on a weekend ride camping in your Beaver 🦫. From start to finish back to home base. Sounds fun!
If only I had some free time
THANK YOU FOR THE INFO ON THE Furrion a/c really din't know wicth one to buy
Friggin awesome video. Thanks for lugging the camera around doing two jobs at once
Another great video Jim…thank you!!!!
another job done! it's nice to see someone that uses their head to get it done with what you have not with what you can go get !!!! please take care of your back!
Thanks for watching! :)
I was told once a year to pull the inside panel down and check the snugness of the thru bolts as the foam seal ages and when it won't snug anymore replace it
THanks!
Great amount of information. Great job!!
Thanks for watching! :)
Very well done!
Thanks for watching! :)
Hey James, Glad to see you got yourself a couple scaffolds, safer and saves a LOT of up and downs
Scissorlift is on my list
Your work quality is the best there is.
Wow, thanks!
I clenched a little when you started going up that little ladder with that AC unit. I've had that exact ladder fail on me before. Great video too by the way.
Maybe some day I'll get a lift
Awesome video James!
Thanks for watching! :)
Excellent video!
Also for those that may not be able carry the a/c up. If you leave it in the box you can tie off the box and rope it up the box helps protect the unit and rv.
Well, this video is helping me as I have to replace my old one on my 2003 R-Vision trail lite Motorhome. Thanks for this video.
Awesome!
Great video, love how detail you are in cleaning and all installation. I tape all wiring as well, don't trust just wire nut or any connection without tape. Again Great video !
Thanks for watching! :)
Congratulations 50k !
Thanks for watching! :)
Nice pull job thru the roof 😉
Another great job!
Thanks!
Nice job, enjoyed the video
Glad you enjoyed it
Great quality work.
Much appreciated!
Being a newbie RVer, I learned something today. I called the shop that did some electrical work on my rig. I asked him if it matters if I use a 15 amp outlet or a 20 amp outlet to run my AC. He told me I should be using a 30amp outlet, otherwise my compressor may burn up. He said they replace AC units all the time because people don't know this. He said once the compressor goes, the AC is junk. I had been running my AC off of a 15 Amp outlet and had noticed the electrical cable was getting quite warm, so I unplugged it. But I ran it for 2-3 hours. I hope I haven't damaged it. The repair shop ran it to test it and they said it got cold but at first it didn't, so I hope I'm OK with it. It's a 1981 Class C and I'm dumping some bucks into this thing but it is turning out quite nice.
20amp is a minimum if nothing else is running, like a charger, but clean voltage is important too and the 20amp plug can overheat easier
@@AZExpert well the converter is a charger, so if the converter is converting.
Another fantastic job sure still wish I was 35 hrs younger I would like to appreciate with you, but at 76 ya keep me entertained and informed if I have a problem with my own unit. 😎👌
Thanks for watching! :)
Good install that is how it should be!
Thanks!
Awesome video, thanks
Great as always!
Thanks for watching! :)
