You may not be able to use a tax-advantaged retirement account if your tax-free VA benefit is your only income. You CAN use a normal brokerage account to invest at a place like Fidelity, E-Trade, or Vanguard
They need the bed and it is not that expensive (I mean the 100k are likely before taxes. But he now has the 300 USD a week sidejob. So that is 15.000 before taxes on top of that). But both could have 10k cars (so in total 20 k) that are decent and not prone to breaking down and they could have approx. 28k less in debt. How can people be so clueless ? And the rent a something deals are likely a form of payday lending, they likely cost them 20 % interest. So for 2 k for a year they pay 400 USD extra (two smaller and cheaper cars means less gas, insurance, much cheaper tires and less maintainance costs, so even more savings).

I appreciate that these folks are very good at devising strategies for paying off debt, but that’s not enough to solve this guys problems.
