I personally don't like D.W. Griffith's work. Love the acting but not his direction. His themes generally deal with morality and how we should live our lives. He comes off rather "preachy".
Little wonder she was neither credited nor well known in that 1908 film. In 1908 Mary Pickford was only 16 years old, just at the start of her career. She later went on to loftier heights. I think she was the highest-paid actress of her day. Certainly well known in her prime.
