I'll never forget when my father surprised me with an 027 layout in our basement. As a little kid I could my father working down there after he came home from work every night, he worked in the post office at the window, my mother could hardly keep me from sneaking downstairs to see what was going on. My father would lock the cellar door after he came upstairs, one day when it was finished I was then able to go and see, he had gotten a 4×8 sheet of plywood and set up a layout with my Lionel trains, it was unbelievable and he enjoyed it as much as I did because before then in had to wait until Christmas with the traditional l train around Christmas tree, it's an old house and the cellar isn't that big but after that I slowly began fixing it up and it became my playroom especially in summer, we didn't have air conditioning upstairs and the cellar was cool but cold in winter with the bare wall and concrete floor. After many years and I got older I dismantled the layout my mother packed the trains away in boxes and put them in the attic which is where they still are, I'm 64 now and own the house both mom and dad are gone, I keep wanting to go in the attic and go through all my old toys that my mother lovingly packed away but I know it will be too emotional, I can't even write this without tearing up, I can't even listen to the song toyland without crying my eyes out.
Your story could be mine as well! My Dad did the same only it was a split level house and even harder for my Mom to keep me from going down one level to the family room! He surprised me on Christmas morning! I’m 70 now and still think back on those great childhood memories. I miss my parents every single day.

I love the sound of wheels clacking through rail joints and long wide curves. O scale club I was in 20+ years ago had the sounds but not the sweeping curves.
Robbys layout definitely has some nice sweeping curves. A few years ago we had a train of 167 cars. Without these curves I don't think that would of been possible

It's the best store to G scale IMO. I try to make it to all his open houses. The one coming up I'm hoping to make it to but I have a baby due in 2 weeks so it all depends on that.

Most of these are 1:29 scale. There may be one train that 1:32 in the video. If you shop around you can find good deal on engines, i have bought modern diesels for under $100 which is less then most my n scale engines and cars for $5-20 before. Our local club has a train show at Entertrainment Junction 2 times a year I have had a table setup before full of used like new cars for $15 each it just takes time to find the good deals sometimes but they are out there And yes Jonathan is still alive he followed me all day trying to get that into a video. I thought I removed it all before posting but missed one. It just happens its in the video that has my most views 😆 😂 haha

@@Mikey45013 Yes, I've seen this train, it's just great. This coal hopper train is fantastic. That was a great achievement. I had seen a couple of videos from Jonathan. Unfortunately, such a train would not be able to run on my garden railway. A maximum of 30 cars are possible on the slope. Thank you for your answer, I was very pleased.
You're welcome. At my house I have a temporary layout that I set up and take down it has a max of maybe 20 cars. I mostly run on our club layout or go to friends houses to run. Eventually I'll have a layout at my next house that will be permanent. I don't plan on staying where I'm at so don't want to build to just remove it in a few years

I am not sure the exact number if cars the Santafe ran. I know the B&O Capital Limited ran anywhere from 10-25 cars. I now have 20 car (have added 8 since this video)

Yes simple but fun. A few years back my friend TJ and I ran a train with 167 cars on rld hobbies layout. There has been a few of us talking I think we want to top that. Having a flat wide curve layout at Robbys store will help to achieve this goal.
It is made by USA Trains. All the cars in the B&O passenger train are made by USA Trains. The engines up front are aristocraft E8s. The 2 B units are custom made from 2 aristocraft each. My friend Rex makes them

G Scale trains can run in just about any weather. The track is made of brass, stainless steel, nickle, or aluminum so it can be left outside. If you look at some of my other videos I have some of them running in downpour rains and in snow

This falls open house there's someone coming from Germany and Australia. It's a fun event. Unfortunately I have to miss the falls open house due to a wedding I'm in. It's about 270 miles for me which isn't to bad.

I had a Silver Streak in the 70s. No layout, just an oval track on a big piece of plywood. I thought it was pretty cool.

The layout at RLD Hobbies is 100% dead rail. You have to have battery or live steam. Most run battery power and either railpro or revolution
