According to the Vocaloid wiki, The Dark Wood Circus series consits of Steel Cage Princess, Dark Wood Circus, Blue Ice Castle, At the Bottom of the Red Swamp, and finally Guard and Scythe. The story is that Miku is "locked up" in the steel cage (However, it's not clear if she really was, or if the "steel cage" represents her being trapped in madness.) She is sent off to the Dark Wood Circus, where she and others are ridiculed for their apperance. She is then wed (In Blue Ice Castle) and kills herself by cutting off all her limbs and falling down a flight of stairs. She is then sent to the Bottom of the Red Swamp (Hell) where she suffers for her sins. (Suicide) She then becomes a reaper (Guard and Scythe) and at one point has to judge her former husband-whose head she cuts off. Wide Knowledge of the Late Madness isn't really part of the DWC story, but they are connected.
Wide knowledge explains why miku ren and them look and act like how they do in DWC. They were sent to an fake asylum actually ran by the circus most likely to create new circus freaks. They are also possibly raped there too judging by how mikus dress/outfit was at the end. The straps were at her shoulders
Tower of Sunz isn't intended to be canon to the series. Its a spin-off that focuses what happened to her in the end. There is 1 reference to Dark Woods Circus in that song, but that's pretty much it.
Agony, repentance, the smell of sin The inside of my heart has been dyed black In my right hand is a dull silver scythe Shining A drop falling into a red lake That moment the head was decapitated It sounded almost like a scream From my eyes, the tears Collapsed and fell This will be the scythe's voice The cradle of sin and punishment Sways, sways And creaks Inside this swirl of hatred You can't say anything One who was loved is now judged Scythe in my right hand, I sing that song As I surpress my tears That moment The sickle made the sound The end of the quiet song Blooms, blooms And sinks into the pond Where the light disappears You can't think of anything
Oh by the way, I did not translate this, I have sadly forgotten where I've found these lyrics. You may try searching, perhaps you'll come across them. :)
+Kaneki Ken (MessicaTen) These lyrics are creepy and mysterious and the fact that the songs name Is unknown makes It even more mysterious, I like that!!!!! :D So thank you for the lyrics!!!! XD
Someone needs to explain this series to me. So Miku goes insane in the first song, is then sent off to the Circus via her husband, commits suicide, goes to Hell, then comes back as the Reaper? Is that what happened?
+Joeru Chi Kagamine they can die actually. Well, at least miku can. A man rescued her from the circus and she married him not long after that, but the circus memories were too hard on her so she committed suicide by cutting her limbs off so she can be in peace. But she made a big mistake because she was sent to hell for suicide. She suffered until possibly the devil let her be a grim reaper for hell. She enjoyed being a grim reaper since she didn't have to suffer anymore but she had to judge her husband, which made her sad again. Basically DWC is a sad story with a sad ending. Miku is a grim reaper for eternity which could have been avoided if she took therapy for the circus memories

It's mainly subbed like this because of the time it was unleashed. Fansubs weren't as popular as they are now, there were less online video translators. Alot of video's back in 2009 were translated via captions.
Ok so if your confused see these in order : test tube princess, Steel caged princess, going insane from to much knowledge (madness), Dark Woods Circus, Blue ice castle, Red swamp bottom, and last but not least.... This song. So the story goes Miku was created in a tube and caused destruction. Everyone left her in the town and so she's alone. Someone finds her and throws her in an asylum. The asylum is shut down and people find them and throw them in the circus. A guy helps miku escape from the circus. They are husband and wife now. Miku being haunted from the past memories kills herself by chopping off her limbs and freezing them. She goes to hell and is tortured. She had enough torture and makes a deal to the devil and is now the grim reaper. All is fine until she has to kill her friends and husband.
Actually the real order is: Steel Cage Princess Dark Woods Circus Blue Ice Castle Red Swamp Bottom Guard and Scythe In steel cage princess Miku is being kidnapped. She is sent to the Circus with the other kids where she is being tortured in front of an audience for entertainment. She goes mad and wishes to die so she commits suicide by cutting her arms and legs off (blue ice castle). She dies and is sent to the Red Swamp Bottom (aka hell) for her sins. In Guard and Scythe she becomes the Grim Reaper. The Wide Knowledge of the Late Madness isn't an official song in the series but there is a video that fits the story.
Have a feeling that is a little bit of engrish. The phrase 'sun doesn't enter' is used in other vocaloid (from this artist?) and can be more accurately said to be sun doesn't shine or sun doesn't rise (etc). What the hell do you think, when the sun no longer shines?
I think a better-to-understand translation would be this (although it's a lot rougher) "What the hell do you mean when you say that the sun will never enter my gaze?"
How... Macabre. I had actually forgotten this series existed. Scouting through my 1300 favorites and here it is. In the end I sit curled up in my chair and embracing my knees, with tears of pain streaming down my cheeks and chills stroking my spine. i love this song it is like one of the best of the dark woods circus saga it goes like this 1: Steel Cage Princess 2: Knowledgeof the late, Madness 3: Dark Wood Circus 4:Blue Ice Castle 5 Red Swamp Bottom 6: GAURDE AND SYTHE
Actually, Call Me Maybe has a deeper meaning to it. "Your stare was holding. Ripped jeans, skin was showing" This line is a nod towards one of the seven deadly sins: Envy. She wants this boy because he looks hot and was staring at her from a distance, it might lean a little bit towards lust but it is without a doubt envy. "You took your time with the call, I took no time with the fall. You gave me nothing at all but still you're in my way" Think about that line for a second. *You gave me nothing at all*. This indicates that he didn't call her when she gave him her number. Now I ask you to think: *WHY?* Why didn't he call her back? Was it because he was busy? Was it because he found her creepy? Or maybe, just maybe........*He's already together with someone*. If that's the case then this is another nod towards the sin, envy. "Before you came into my life I missed you so bad, and you should know that" Read that last word again. *AND YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT*. If you've watched The Vocaloid Sins Series then you'll recognize this from The Tailor Shop on Enbizaka (the song of envy). This line clearly states that she's getting desperate for the boy and she might go to high lengths just to get him. If the boy is already together with someone she might even try to *kill his girlfriend* just so she can have him all to herself. The end of the song doesn't state whether she did indeed go to those lengths and the music video doesn't give us any clue either. Call Me Maybe is a song about Envy but is overlooked as just another everyday pop song. Some kid friendly pop songs do have deeper meanings to them, you just have to study the lyrics and look in more detail.
I try to share the meaning of Story of Evil with my dad. He just doesn't get it. And I like creepy Vocaloid songs much more than horror movies or scary stories any day.
This song is really nice, the instrumental is beautiful and Miku's voice perfectly creepy for the genre... But i feel like it doesn't make sense to relate it to DWC tbh...
Okay so I haven't heard this song in a very very long time.. Today for the first time I clicked on it, barely remembering having listened to it in the past at all, and I hummed the tune perfectly like I'd been listening to it for the past like 4 years of my life o_0
The Dark Side of Vocaloid. I love it! :3 The whole DWC storyline fits together so perfectly! Everytime I hear one of these songs, chills go down my spine! Especially when Im home alone at 10:30 at night! Creepy as ever! I
Steel cage princess: Dang thats sad. WKotLKM: Um...... crazy. Dark Woods Circus: Wow, thats horrible. Blue Ice Castle: Ok, bout to cry now! Bottom of the red swamp: Aka Billy Mays says, "But wait, there's more!" Guard & Scythe: Someone give that girl a free pass to heaven already!!!
Miku Hatsune Y'know the little gear-shaped icon next to the buttons that let you change how much space onscreen is taken up by the video? Click it, and you'll see the on/off switch for annotations. Sorry if you already knew this, just trying to be helpful. :B
@Mangascribbler Yes. I think it goes "Steel Cage Princess", "Wide Knowledge of the Late, Madness", "Dark Woods Circus", "Blue Ice Castle","Red Swamp Bottom" and then this.
@TheOriginalEmoEmu1 Yes she does go 'free' but she is actually sent into a type of limbo in complete solitude, which is actually the song Tower of Sunz ( the actual historical tower of sunza is a place that can be veiwed as a punishment or an escape) In Tower of Sunz she is stuck with her past self, waiting for the next day to come and to forget about what has happened, but she catches a glimpse of all her voca friends who are in a different place ( heaven) and she is stuck in limbo.
Celeste Cavelerie yeah, they can be hardcore but they're still desperately superficial ; don't deny it, most of women use make up or like wearing fancy stuffs. It's very difficult to stick the word "hardcore" on them while the word "stupid" is more appropriated. Sorry for my machism, I'm vile. :p
Does anybody remember this being the next song after red swamp bottom, or is that just me? Ah, it was round this time that my vocaloid craze began to really hit off, I feel old now XD
+Anna Ermacora The old vocaloid fans fanclub! Haha, back when story of evil and world was mine were the biggest and newest voca hits and there were just the small few on V3. Ah geez, know that was nearly 10 years ago makes me wanna cry XD
+Sophieperky I know, right! I love listening to those songs ( or japanese speaking vocaloids in general ), but....Ah, Oliver will always be my favourite. He can be so creepy. I luv him.
+Anna Ermacora Haha, I can never choose a favourite anymore, they're all soo good if the producer knows how to use them right. Miku, Gumi, Rin, Aoki, Yuzuki, Ia, Len, Oliver, Meril, Tohoku and Kokone are the ones I listen to most. But I have at least one song from each vocaloid now, and quite a few utauloid songs too. The utauloid list keeps growing at such an alarming rate, there are so many now XD Who is your favourite producers? Mine are Okame-P, Tiara-P, Mambo-dead-behind-the-house-P, Utata-P and Deco 27*-P. I like some from many, but they are the ones I listen to most! Oh and Circus-P, Pinocchio-P and Giraffe-P too (So many to name XD)
+Sophieperky Well, I have at leats one song from each vocaloid too, and lately I've been using UTAUs a lot ouo; ( The app where I listen to vocaloids and utaus freezes almost everytime for like 4-5 second because there are too many song, ugh... ) My favourite producers? Hm...I absolutely love Steampianist and Momocashew's works, but I listen to Kairiki Bear, Circus-P, Crusher-P, Deco 27*-P and Utata-P too. Oh, and how could I forget about Kikuo? uwu
She killed herself in the Dark Woods Circus one, if I'm right. Then Miku becomes the Grim Reaper to atone for her sins (Suicide) and wields a scythe. At one point, she must judge her husband, and, with tears in her eyes, beheads him....e-e;...
I finally understand the story! This story is based off a true story that happened. In the first song of the Dark Wood Circus series is Steel Cage princess. In that song, Miku is taken to a place where a queen had taken thousands of women. There, the queen killed and brutally tortured them. Miku was tortured and at the end she was able to get away..but after being tortured, it left her many scares.
I want to do some research now on this... its intrigued me. I love this little series thing they did, its creepy, yet truthful, which adds to the creepy factor. I love their creepy stuff :]
Does anyone realize this is not Miku herself, but Miku singing about little Meiko? In Dark Woods Circus, lil Meito committed suicide, and here in hell, she is killing people who probably are linked to Dark Woods Circus as revenge, which triggers Red Swamp Bottom's lyrics and screaming.
what's worse is she has such an innocent, sweet voice and you think, a child so pure, singing songs about such melancholy and sorrow. ccrrreeeeeeepppppyyyyy
@R0ckG1r7 From 3:28-3:53 are the credits. Everything was done by Machigeriita except for the illustrations, which was done by Tawashi. I can't read what it says at 3:54 (my kanji sucks... a lot TT-TT), and I think 4:11 says something about this song being a work of fiction.
@shadowgal88 I think that tower of sunz (when shes going up the stairs and when she visits the circus) is her looking at her past, present, and future lives.
According to the Vocaloid wiki, The Dark Wood Circus series consits of Steel Cage Princess, Dark Wood Circus, Blue Ice Castle, At the Bottom of the Red Swamp, and finally Guard and Scythe.
The story is that Miku is "locked up" in the steel cage (However, it's not clear if she really was, or if the "steel cage" represents her being trapped in madness.) They are also possibly raped there too judging by how mikus dress/outfit was at the end. The straps were at her shoulders
I'm not sure if these songs made Dark woods circus better or if it ruined it for me.
Tower of Sunz is the final installment. Where Miku reflects on her past and finds something close to peace.
Tower of Sunz isn't intended to be canon to the series. Its a spin-off that focuses what happened to her in the end. There is 1 reference to Dark Woods Circus in that song, but that's pretty much it.
Hola soy un latino no sé quien conoce mí idioma pero te faltó una la segúnda dónde se llevan a Miku y a los demás Vocaloid para experimentar
Agony, repentance, the smell of sin
The inside of my heart has been dyed black
In my right hand is a dull silver scythe
Shining
A drop falling into a red lake
That moment the head was decapitated
It sounded almost like a scream
From my eyes, the tears
Collapsed and fell
This will be the scythe's voice
The cradle of sin and punishment
Sways, sways
And creaks
Inside this swirl of hatred
You can't say anything
One who was loved is now judged
Scythe in my right hand, I sing that song
As I surpress my tears
That moment
The sickle made the sound
The end of the quiet song
Blooms, blooms
And sinks into the pond
Where the light disappears
You can't think of anything
Wow beautiful lyrics
It's like we listened to the same song!
+101jackj I think those lyrics were the better translated ones.

The .Reaper Me too
The .Reaper Well, sorry to burst your bubble

Test tube Princess is actually a prequel song of Disruptive Diva
idk why it was in my recommended but when i saw it i was like "omg i remember this song!!" and then i saw "12 years ago" and i never felt so /OLD/
what the hell do you think where the sun doesn't enter

Have a feeling that is a little bit of engrish. The phrase 'sun doesn't enter' is used in other vocaloid (from this artist?) and can be more accurately said to be sun doesn't shine or sun doesn't rise (etc).
What the hell do you think, when the sun no longer shines?
i know xP
I think a better-to-understand translation would be this (although it's a lot rougher)
"What the hell do you mean when you say that the sun will never enter my gaze?"
Or "Where the hell do you think the sun doesn't enter?"
Or
"Sun doesn't shine"

I love this series! I never want it to end...too late...
I love Miku's songs, the stories that go along with it are, how should i put it... captivating. Like the Sinful Black Bride and the Wingless Angel
Black Vow?

Joeru Chi Kagamine I like to think of Vocaloid songs and try to find out the meaning wuen im bored
Love this song, wanna hear it again and again and AGAIN!

this song started playing right when i was searching slenderman pictures... god damn it!
3 años han pasado y sigo amando esta cancion
I forgot how sad the original continuity Dark Woods Circus jeez...
Anyone still hear it? Feel nostalgic hurm
The Dark Side of Vocaloid. I love it! :3 The whole DWC storyline fits together so perfectly! Everytime I hear one of these songs, chills go down my spine! Especially when Im home alone at 10:30 at night! Creepy as ever! I

I'd love it if there was an append version of this
The visual is pretty dope
Am I the only one who can't see the English subtitles?? It's completely missing for me, even with annotations enabled.
motokokusanagi-san uses the YT annotations that pop-out. The kind viewable via computer only. I had that issue when I used my phone :)

Well, I'm out of ideas. Here's hoping it works out eventually.
I already loved it when I heard the guitar at the begining.

It's actually not that relevant to the song at all.
"All people, places, and events in this performance are fiction."
it says
"Chickens and fries with a dip of Ketchup"
"Pizza and pineapple are never meant to be eaten together"
“This is a work of fiction. Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events, is purely coincidental.”
This song creeps me the fudge out and i cant stop listening to it -_-
But I thought this was connected to Dark Woods Circus somehow?
CONFUSED D:
i love how most of the suggestions are phsycotic vocaloid songs
Does anyone have a link to the picture of the girl? :3
i looooooove it : the character , the song, the bloody backround (sorry for my english)

My touhou senses are tickling.

Yes she does go 'free' but she is actually sent into a type of limbo in complete solitude, which is actually the song Tower of Sunz ( the actual historical tower of sunza is a place that can be veiwed as a punishment or an escape) In Tower of Sunz she is stuck with her past self, waiting for the next day to come and to forget about what has happened, but she catches a glimpse of all her voca friends who are in a different place ( heaven) and she is stuck in limbo.
Me, on my period. Every time.
Menstruation is way too hardcore to be a girly thing 🙅💪😁
+Rose Turquoise
who says girly things aren't hardcore?
Men?
Who listens to their jealous asses?
Diana is super Britney girl ≠ hardcore
:3
Celeste Cavelerie yeah, sorry...
I admit straightening hair and wearing a cleavage on winter are fucking hardcore things ;)
this is soooooo good music
Okay this one's got to be the edgiest vocaloid song. It reminds me way too much of my super edgy phase, best forgotten loll
play this at my funeral
Im pissed i cant see the translations
this is actually one of my favorite songs
Does anybody remember this being the next song after red swamp bottom, or is that just me? Ah, it was round this time that my vocaloid craze began to really hit off, I feel old now XD
+Sophieperky This is the sequel to Red Swamp Bottom. :)
And yeah, me too ahaha. Welcome to the club, my friend xD
+Anna Ermacora
The old vocaloid fans fanclub!
I luv him.
+Anna Ermacora
Haha, I can never choose a favourite anymore, they're all soo good if the producer knows how to use them right. Miku, Gumi, Rin, Aoki, Yuzuki, Ia, Len, Oliver, Meril, Tohoku and Kokone are the ones I listen to most. But I have at least one song from each vocaloid now, and quite a few utauloid songs too. The utauloid list keeps growing at such an alarming rate, there are so many now XD
Who is your favourite producers?
Mine are Okame-P, Tiara-P, Mambo-dead-behind-the-house-P, Utata-P and Deco 27*-P. I like some from many, but they are the ones I listen to most! Oh and Circus-P, Pinocchio-P and Giraffe-P too (So many to name XD)
+Sophieperky Well, I have at leats one song from each vocaloid too, and lately I've been using UTAUs a lot ouo; ( The app where I listen to vocaloids and utaus freezes almost everytime for like 4-5 second because there are too many song, ugh... )
My favourite producers?
Hm...I absolutely love Steampianist and Momocashew's works, but I listen to Kairiki Bear, Circus-P, Crusher-P, Deco 27*-P and Utata-P too. Oh, and how could I forget about Kikuo? uwu
I love those.
Is Miku jealous AGAIN??? Goodness girl. Yandere much?
She killed herself in the Dark Woods Circus one, if I'm right. Then Miku becomes the Grim Reaper to atone for her sins (Suicide) and wields a scythe. At one point, she must judge her husband, and, with tears in her eyes, beheads him....e-e;...
O.o That's......pleasant.
FitForRivals125 O-o well fuck
Right?
yep O-o
j'adore cette musique !!! Elle est magnifique 😘
good lord this is so old
retired emo kids sound off
I finally understand the story!
Hm.. Miku looks a lot like Meiko in this song..
Oh god...this song...the creepiness....the traumatizing....it's all so....AWESOME!!!!
2018??
Circus Monster is by CircusP and DWC series, Test Tube Princess, and Wide Knowledge of the Late, Madness is by MachigeritaP.
September 10th is my birthday. Just leaving it out for those who see this comment.
I want to do some research now on this... its intrigued me. I love this little series thing they did, its creepy, yet truthful, which adds to the creepy factor. I love their creepy stuff :]
That girl is on steroids 😶 how she can lift a heavy with small body
this song is beautiful ^.^
4:20
Blaze it
@xXTaikahhhhXx i see im not alone...even in wide knowledge of the late, madness. freaking meiko totally reminded me of grell sutcliffe
Uhm...no one ever mentiond Meiko committed suicide in Dark Woods Circus...don't mix headcanon with actual facts.
something connects between this and red swamp bottom she floats over a red swamp watching it
and sinners fall in. its like a second part of one story
i like it
i love this song, i was wondering if theres an instrumental version :,D
Always saw this video as a suggestion. Never saw it 'til now. Huh, I should watch my suggestions more often, eh? :P
what's worse is she has such an innocent, sweet voice and you think, a child so pure, singing songs about such melancholy and sorrow. ccrrreeeeeeepppppyyyyy
fun fact did you know a person's head is still conscious 15-20 seconds after decapitation?
when I read the title I thought MAKA AND SOUL!!!
remember, "I can see stars and planets circling me, i don't think i can deal with astronomy right now!"
@R0ckG1r7
From 3:28-3:53 are the credits. Everything was done by Machigeriita except for the illustrations, which was done by Tawashi. I can't read what it says at 3:54 (my kanji sucks... a lot TT-TT), and I think 4:11 says something about this song being a work of fiction.
@shadowgal88 I think that tower of sunz (when shes going up the stairs and when she visits the circus) is her looking at her past, present, and future lives.
when I saw the japanese characters going vertically down the screen and saw the song had the word scythe in it, I was prepared for Soul Eater
