    Using the whiteboards is an excellent way to see if students are following along. I use the white boards and it proves effective. Why? In my classroom I would write a problem like 5x +3 = 13. What is x? First I write the problem on the board. Then I write it on a white board and walk around tge classroom to see if everybody's board looks like mines. If they seem to don't know whats going on they csn always look at the white board I'm holding. When everyone has written the problem I will have them hold up their boards just to quickly see if they are on task. I will begin by tellinv them that the x is a variable. It takes the place of a number. Then I get a bit creative by telling the class that the x is waiting for them to get the answer right so it can sit down. Next, I start showing them what to do first. I tell them to subtract 3 from both sides. I explain to them whenever the number and its sign is just reverse it. Now we have 5x+3=13. At this point I'll stop and look to see if anybody got lost along the way. How will I know if they are stuck becsuse I will use the stop light cup system. I'll explain that after the lesson. Okay, now it is time to solve the problem. Now we begin by crossing out the +3 and the -3. Now we have 5x=10. How did we get 10? Remember when we subtracted- 3 on both sides which came to 13 -3 which is 10. Now our x is still waiting patiently for us to find that special number that goes in its place. Now ask yourself what is 5 is multiplied by what number to get 10? The answer is 2. Therefore, x = 2.
    To find out if my students are not understanding I give each student three cups. Green, Yellow,and Red. We start off with the green cup. If the students have a question for me they will put the yellow cup on top. I will then answer that students hand. If I am going too fast then the students will also put up their yellow cup. If they have no idea as to what I am talking about then the red cup will be used, then I will stop and attend to them immediately. This helps with the No Child Left Behind Act.
