    I was SO frickin' excited for this book and I was disappointed. You can definitely tell that JK Rowling didn't write it.
    The scene with McGonagall actually made me so mad!! Harry would NEVER say that to her!
    And also as a Hufflepuff I was very offended by the alternate timeline where Cedric became a Death Eater and KILLED Neville?? All because he was humiliated in front of the school?? He would never do that!! Come on we have one good Hufflepuff character...don't ruin him! 🙄

      The Cursed Child story was an original story by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany and then was made into a play by Jack Thorne

      actuallyyyyyyy... harry is very impulsive in the books, so i can totally see him saying that, BUT then he regrets it.

      I can totally see him saying that to McGonagall! I don't WANT him to say that sh*t, but do you remember hoe he treated everyone in the Order of the Phoenix? He can be a bit of a pill, our dear Harry.
      I agree about Cedric though!!!

      jacklabite that's what I said, it's on the cover of the book that it's an original story by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany. Then Jack Thorne wrote the play/script

    I don't really understand the time turner thing in this book.
    In PoA, the book showed that whatever you do, you can't change the present or future by changing the past since the changes you did in the past has already affected the present and future and that's what you're living right now.
    But in this book, the plot just did a complete 180 and you could actually change the past and come to the present or future with different alternative situations.

    • @penelopesnow1408
      @penelopesnow1408 8 лет назад +2

      I think it's because in this book we learn there are different brands of time turners, different ones do different things and have different outcomes

    • @SnorriSnibble
      @SnorriSnibble 8 лет назад +31

      +Penelope Snow that's not how it works. If there is going to be time travel in a world/universe you have to set rules and make clear how time travel works. And you have to stick with the rules within the universe.
      You can't just say "well, this time turner brings you back a few hours and you can't change time because everything has already happened, but THIS time turner brings you back years and you can change time however you want."
      It doesn't matter what time turner you use, this is about physical rules, everything else is wrong.
      And no one can argue that the author wrote it that way therefore it's ok, because it isn't. It's wrong and that's a fact.

      I believe this was actually adressed in this book. At a certain point they say that the maximum amount of time you can go back without changing anything is 5 hours. In PoA they go back 3 hours iirc, so the time already caught up to itself and there is only one timeline. But in this book they go back in time a lot more than 5 hours so time can't restore itself and takes a different path entirely by creating a new timeline. I hope I made sense here, to me this book explains itself the timetravelling pretty well.

      I just keep telling myself it's a fanfiction. It's actually believable to me haha. Honestly though, there's probably so much actual good Harry Potter fanfiction. I refuse to believe J.K. Rowling said it was actual canon. No. No no no NO. NEVER. IT WILL NEVER BE CANON TO ME. Although I did like Scorpius, but Albus was stupid and annoying af and the whole gang felt completely out of character.

    My main problem with this book was i don't quite understand the need to delve into the past for a plot. The HP world is so rich and stratified , that it feels almost juvenile that the only villain they could whip up was Voldemort and Bellatrix's child.

      Sisi Tolani. I have to agree on that. I had a debate with couple of my friends over the possibility of Delphi. Why should Voldemort want a kid? He is not able to love, he is not somebody who would share his powers and he was pretty confident that he was immortal, so he wasn't in need of a succeeder. My friend tought that maybe it was a price for being so loyal to Bellatrix, but I have problems believing it.

    • @sallydagger19
      @sallydagger19 7 лет назад +4

      G-Rant Voldemort is literally a psychopath he isn't capable of feeling love. he would never engage in meaningless activities that didn't allow him to each his goal. he would NEVER have fucking sex with Bellatrix. he was fond of her because she listened to him but he would have no problem killing her if he needed to. THIS BOOK WAS FUCKING TRASH. TEH TIME TURNER SHIT GIT ME MAD. LIKE NO! IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT! THERE'S ONLY ONE TIMELINE NOT ALTERNATE UNIVERSES! THE TIME TURNER NEVER WORKED LIKE THAT! YES! The trolly witch scene was insane! I also thought that scene where Harry said that horrible thing to Albus was kind of off...
    I think a lot of the things that made the story feel "off" were because it's a play. Theatre is really dramatic so I can see how this story fits very well in that format more than anything else. It was written to be a bit over-the-top in all ways.

  • @abitterwind
    @abitterwind 8 лет назад +27

    What I don't get is why all this "Harry Potter pressure" is on Albus, and not on James as well? Imo, the answer to this is because Albus is the one making up this "pressure" in his mind. Since James has a different personality than Albus, he chooses not to give a shit about expectations (I'm assuming). The whole story is treated as if Albus is an only child.

    I'm just not even considering that story as part of the Harry Potter lore. I can't. That's not the Harry we loved, yeah they grow up and mature but it doesn't seem like that, he was completely different. There's far too many continuity issues and Hermione would never be so rude to someone for no reason, like that little snippet of The Triwizard Tournament. My biggest two issues were Delphi, I'm sorry she reads like fan-fiction. She was a weak character and very predictable, I figured her out when she was all to eager to get that time turner. And that ending. Nope. That was beyond cruel and such a slap in the face to Harry. At its core, it's a good read but it's not Harry Potter worthy.

    Definitely underwhelmed by the plot. The trolley witch was actually my cringeworthy moment- didn't seem to fit the world at all and more like a desperate grab for an action sequence. And I don't think Dumbledore would come out and say I love you to Harry. He'd say it by not saying it...sigh.

    • @hatiahbegum5659
      @hatiahbegum5659 8 лет назад +3

      I know! I found it s difficult to picture the trolley witch on the top of the train trying to stop the two boys from escaping. Idk why, but I imagined her with the trolley on the top of the train, that was just so odd. Everything was out of character in this script.

    Honestly, I found it kind of ridiculous that Delphi was Voldemort's daughter. Because remember Voldemort didn't love anyone even though Bellatrix is obsessed with him. And choosing to have a child with her makes it seem like Voldemort had a backup plan in case he lost. Which is completely out of character for him because he was so arrogant that he had no doubt in his mind that he could lose to Harry Potter.

MIGHT AS WELL SPIT ON THEIR GRAVE WHILE YOU'RE AT IT, HARRY!!!!! And why does Voldi have a kid??? I don't want to think about him reproducing..

    Spoilers:::: I was really annoyed how after the first time travel hermione was like a different person. She was mean and kind of hateful and I was just like why? Just because she didn't end up with Ron she's now not compassionate? That is dumb. Especially when you think about the good deeds she did as a child fighting for the rights of house elves. I just don't think her personality would have changed just from not marrying Ron, I feel like that sends a weird message. Also I was super annoyed that the whole thing relied on goblet of fire and was basically the butterfly effect.

Characters change, so get over it! When your 18 you are innocent (sort of) and you don't have all the stress of a full adulthood. I was 100% satisfied with this book. You put the feels into words!! I feel like after reading the Harry Potter series, i knew these characters and when I was reading this book that feeling completely abandoned me. Throughout the whole book I was constantly saying who are these people? I guess it kept me from being engrossed in the story. I felt like the third wheel. I wasn't able to connect like I had been able to with the previous novels. But I did enjoy is, Albus and Scorpius gave me the feels... when rose was knocked out of existence and scorpius freaked out!! He was like, oh no, my bae! Awful things happen to wizards who meddle with time!

    And no discussion around Albus and Scorpius being put in Slytherin? Wouldn't Hufflepuff be a better house for them both, what with the safety scissors and early homoerotic experiences? Neither struck me as Slytherin material, and I don't care what y'all say about it not being the evil house and how it's misunderstood, there's not a lot of evidence contrary to that in the books.

      I thought Scorpius should have been Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, and Albus was a good Slytherin, but he could have been an okay Griffindor. And Rose was a perfect Gryffindor.

    • @86upsmaya
      @86upsmaya 8 лет назад +5

      not really, Rose acted as a Slytherin (judgemental and discriminating because of one's parentage) she never shows any sign of bravery or chivalry. Scorpius is smart enough for Ravenclaw and has some Gryffindore chivalry but Albus? - he makes some dumb decision, which could be classified as bravery i guess. but he is not Hufflepuff coz he shows no loyalty at least to his family (not even to Scorpius), he is good at potions but not in anything else, so not Ravenclaw. Slytherin - he is not pure-blood for one thing, he is NOT evil, he has a disregard for rules and ambitions. so may be Albus is right in Slytherin.

    • @sercemwksiazkach
      @sercemwksiazkach 7 лет назад

      HELL YES I was like "why is Albus even in Slytherin?!" all the time, he was not ambitious, not a good student, not a really bad person too, just spoilt.
      I could totally see Scorpius in Ravenclaw though, I think it would fit him. But Slytherin fits him well in my opinion.

    While I was reading it I loved it (mostly) and I'm still glad it exists and would love to see the play, but really, why did JK Rowling feel it was necessary to do this? She said she would only go back into the world of Harry if she had a really brilliant idea, and I just probably would have preferred if she just left it I was so content with the ending. I guess it was worth it though just to have Scorpius in my life 3

    (MAJOR SPOILERS) I feel very similar to how you do. I really wanted to enjoy the book, and there were a lot of things that I loved, like Scorpio is great and that scene with Albus/ron was hilarious and tbh i really enjoyed that scene at the end when we see james and lily die again just because it gave me all the jily feelings again. BUT you're totally right a lot of the characters did seem really off especially harry when he said that to Albus, yelled at McGonagall, and wanted to take away his son's only friendship, like harry would never do that. Also I just cant accept the whole Voldemort/Bellatrix child thing it just doesnt make any sense, doesnt fit voldy's character at all, and the timeline doesnt make any sense like was Bellatrix pregnant between book 6 and 7, i feel like someone would have noticed that.

  • @ginnym9371
    @ginnym9371 8 лет назад +1

    Hey I agree with you on why the characters felt off - that it was because there was a big period of time that we don't know about. However, I was really surprised that if Hermione wasn't married to Ron she would turn into Snape #2. That made me so sad!

  • @attila6969
    @attila6969 8 лет назад +10

    I mean it would've been bad/boring if the villain of the play was Voldemort again. But as the villain is the FREAKING DAUGHTER of FUCKING VOLDEMORT kinda ruins it for me. But Harry and Dracos relationship was perfect, towards the end of the Deathly Hallows they show indirect signs of having a slight liking towards eachother (whether they know it themselves or not) such as Draco purposely not giving Harry away to Bellatrix, and Harry saving Draco, and many other things, so it was good how Harry and Draco in this script gradually became friends. It was going to happen

    "Make them sit in a timeout and think about what they said!" --- THIS CRACKED ME UP! It would be so good if we could make any misbehaving characters in any book sit in timeout as a punishment! :D
    I didn't love the script, but I did really enjoy it - I never expected it to be the eighth story so, that was good. But I'm sure it must be wonderful as a live performance before the audience!

    I read this book with an open mind knowing that it is a play and there is a 19 year gap. So knowing this I liked the book and because the last book ended the series perfect I wasn't expecting this one to go into detail like the books. It was fun reading the characters and like you I want to re read the books. I also had a hard time with what Harry said to his son.

  • @bethanyfisher5048
    @bethanyfisher5048 7 лет назад +1

    When I was reading it (especially the angsty scenes between Harry and Albus) I was in emotional turmoil and really annoyed that Harry was being portrayed badly because I could understand his actions to be honest- he never had any good role models until he was 11 and he really cares for his son, so I can understand him letting his emotions get the best of him.
    Albus annoyed me a lot but I had to keep reminding myself how much pressure he was under so that's why he kept pushing his dad away. I loved the friendship between Albus and Scorpious and even the budding civility between Harry and Draco because I think that all four of these characters are good people. I think they're all misunderstood and they've all been put on pedestals and expected to be something they're not.
    I kinda found Harry off character when he disrespected McGonagall but again I understood him because he was under a lot of pressure.
    Overall, I actually (more in hindsight really) adore this script. I felt like it was realistic- the angsty scenes between a father and son, both who have been expected of too much in the past and/or present and also when Harry shouts at Dumbledore. The "I love you" bit between the two of them broke me (in a good way) because I was waiting for that moment so so much. Dumbledore understands Harry and his behaviour because really he made the same mistakes as his father figure- his care for his son and his fear of his past led him to pushing Albus away. During the HP series, both Harry and Dumbledore do exactly that- Harry pushes Dumbledore away when Sirius dies, because he wanted to blame him to avoid having to cope but also just because the knowledge of losing someone you love makes you want to push people away. Dumbledore does the same throughout the series- thinking that getting to close would harm Harry, thinking that lying and hiding would protect his son (aka Harry.) He didn't predict that doing all of those things would just hurt Harry and push him away and neither did Harry when it came to Albus.
    Overall, 4.5 stars- took half a star off because I wanted more of the fixed relationship between Harry and Albus and because Sirius Black wasn't in it (I know he's dead :'( but a portrait at least.)

      It also doesn’t make sense if you check with the original story.. first Bellatrix always searches attention from Voldemort but he’s never in the slightest interested. Also it is just not possible because of the time. When we last see Bellatrix in the deathly hallows, when she kills dobby, she is not pregnant! And between this scene and the battle of Hogwarts are not 9 month! That taking out that Voldemort would never have sex?! He just doesn’t have this desire. Only if it would be a punishment oder demonstration of power but I just don’t believe this.
      Just absolutely NOT!
