I started watching beauty videos in 2013 when my late husband was being treated for terminal cancer the last year of his life. Those videos were my escape from a very hard time of my life, and I learned a lot about makeup application. But I’ve always been more interested in natural makeup looks (although I love more eyeshadow than is currently popular), so I watched that heavy makeup going on with fascination and amazement. It’s fascinating to me how things have morphed since then!!
I’m so glad the beauty space was able to provide an escape during such a painful time. ❤️
I remember the 'see it from outer space' highlighter and the ultra matte crusty liquid lips. It looked so bad. 😄
Yes! 😂 It was so over the top! I’m definitely a subtle highlighter fan these days.

I love both looks!! For me I like to let my makeup reflect my mood and/or the weather. If I’m feeling light and happy I like lighter, brighter, glowy makeup. If I’m feeling kind of moody I like a grungy eye and a dramatic lip. I’m always into long fluffy lashes no matter what.

In every other category I find warm tones flatter me best, but the eyes I love cool toned shades
Same - reds and pinks just make me look like I’ve been crying or my skin is irritated, and yellows and oranges don’t look good with my skin tone at all (a bit of gold accent is ok)
If I did this video I would have no makeup on the 2014 half my face. 😂

LOVE this switch-up! I can't believe I've been watching beauty youtube for over a decade. Idk how I even started. I didn't and still don't wear makeup often. (The one time period I wore makeup every day was on my baby skin in 8th grade back in 2000-2001 😆) These kinds of videos have always been a comforting escape for me and I don't see that changing any time soon. I watch and rewatch constantly. 💜

I think I started watching your channel in around 2014 which is crazy to think I’ve been following you for 10 years. Loved seeing the side by side.
NGL, other than the full-matte base and the black waterline, I actually prefer the 2014 side! Your left eye looks so big and bright, even before the false lashes. I really like that makeup on social media is less monolithic than 10 years ago. I mean, people can always do whatever they want (and you can pry the blush and black liquid eyeliner from my cold, dead hands), but nowadays we see a variety of looks on social media that look current, rather than only seeing bushy brows or matte liquid lipstick.
Yes! I definitely think there’s more balance in 2024 which is nice to see. I feel like even a year or two ago the only thing we were seeing was the clean girl makeup trend but now there’s more variety, even though that type of look is still popular. I think we’re starting to understand that different styles work for different people and it’s nice to see that represented more often.
This was so much fun to watch! Being 52 I should wear my makeup I guess more modest but idk why I really like the dramatic look. Maybe it’s because my young adult life my makeup was minimal. Now that I’m learning how to do eyeshadow I like drama lol. I hope you are having an amazing evening with your family 😊❤️💄

The only thing that I really don’t like with todays trends is that everything has a name. The latte look is just a smoky mid tone brown eye, bronzer and a brownish/ nude lip. It’s like people are trying to reinvent the wheel.

This was a fun one! Very interesting to see how the trends have changed. I was very minimalistic in my makeup until Covid and I was pretty much housebound. I started watching makeup videos and learned proper techniques and what would look best on more mature skin (I was in my 40s) and also how to better take care of my skin. So I haven’t participated in a lot of the trends but I’ve learned how to apply makeup in a more flattering way. I am in my early 50s now and loving makeup. I still do 2016 makeup and can’t wait for it to come back in style 😅 I will say, I’m glad that my makeup learning era was the 2016 style because once the full glam comes back again, the younger generations are going to be lost when it comes to doing a cut crease since one doesn’t need much skill for a natural makeup look 💁🏻♀️

When I was a teen I only wore eyeliner and mascara, literally nothing else. Then in uni which was around 2010-2016, I just wore a full coverage matte urban decay all nighter foundation, Mac concealer, a dark Mac lipstick and tons of eyeliner and mascara, maybe a blush. Nothing else, I was clueless about makeup, like highlighter and brows etc… were beyond me. Eyeshadows didn’t exist in my head.
Now I am a makeup junkie with a couple of products from each category, and wear waaaaay more makeup than I used to, as before as long as I had avril like eyeliner, dark lip and matte foundation that was enough. I was an emo kid lol

Love this video, I have oily skin I can’t believe I put so much product on my face thinking it would hide the oil. I still like more of a Matt look but use a lot less powder, never have worn eyeliner but not that I am much older I do not put eyeshadow under my eyes and rarely anything in my water line still can’t get on that glowing train lol. I thought my skin would become dry with age but still waiting lol
I agree! Having oily skin, I always thought more was better when it came to base products but sometimes it’s the opposite!
I feel bad for saying this, but I love your brow on the "2014" side! 😂 Also, I never really wore much makeup until 2013-ish when I was going through my divorce. I turned to RUclips to help me with it.

I still love a heavy black eyeliner eye. Great video, and yes, always do what makes you happy! Trends are just trendy, and could change tomorrow. I really think the skincare "obsession" is already starting to die down, and it's only going into February.

In 2014, my makeup was atrocious 😂 I was 19 and thought I looked so good with my blocky eyebrows, cakey foundation and way too much highlight. And don’t forget the crusty liquid lips 🤭
I think, for me, what's changed is that I'm seriously focused on my skincare. Whereas before, I wasn't. Because of that, I'm able to use so much less foundation because my face is just so healthy, I don't feel the need to cover up as much as I did before.
Before my skin felt and looked so bad, that I felt insecure if I DIDN'T cover it up. Now though, I'm happy with my skin and it's reflected in the makeup I use.
That’s a really great change! I feel like that has contributed to why I feel the need to wear less makeup overall too. Focus on a good skincare routine can make such a difference!

While I love the fresher 2024 skin, your 2014 eye looks SO mucn more open than the 2024 eye. But yes, the cakier makeup is over for now, and my skin thanks me every day.
Mine too. 😂 I do agree that there’s something so nice about the older eye makeup trends! I feel like that is one area where I haven’t quite gotten rid of doing my makeup the older way!
When i got into makeup around 2011 i wore revlon whipped foundation and now i wear loreal serum foundation, if i wear any.
I was only 15 yrs old at that time, and I just started makeup back then.
It was such an interesting time to be getting into makeup because everything felt so new and exciting!

I love your 2016 eyes 🤷♀️ but I also love my 1980 hair it's toned down quite a bit but that's only because no hairdresser can do my hair anymore, they seem to have forgotten how to do it 😢

I do love a good dramatic eye too! Day to day I’m too lazy when I have extra time, eyeshadow is definitely what I go for because it makes such a difference!
I’m a 2014 girl and forever be a 2014 girl. Today’s look is like people don’t put effort on their appearance. Too much sneakers, sweatshirts, baggy clothes and minimal make up is definitely a no for me 😂

I'm a Goth & the 2014 makeup is my fav. All the clean girl makeup is not for me. Personally, clean girl lacks art and creativity.
I definitely understand because I feel like makeup looks as a whole were more interesting to look at in 2014-2016. When I occasionally help with makeup at a wedding all of the inspo pictures people are show are from that time period too.
