It's sad that so many songs from the Northern Soul Groups were never given play in other regions of the country in the 1960's era ! Though Motown, Atlantic, and others produced more nation wide hits, these songs belonged right up there with the best of them. Most soul music lovers were never exposed to so many of these great artists since they remained so regional, but if your truly love soul music you would have to agree that Northern Soul belongs with the best of them ! Please keep this exposure going...it's simply great !
Northern as it was known in 1971-75 was not well received at all down South, some clubs tried it , but they were into their Funk & new age stuff , Travelled from Sheffield to an all nighter with mates down south , only to find it had been cancelled due to lack of response, thats probably why it exploded back up in the North, Cast ya memory back to , Va Va's, Cat's The Torch, Samanthas, How many Southerners did you come across, Very few I'll tell ya.
Just come across your post, all.great tunes ,nice to.hear In A Moment ,Intirgues ,lovely sound ,underrated in my opinion, thanks for putting on ere, plus Robin Wilson track -brill
Moses Smith - you don't love me is a boot (Moses Smith never recorded You don't love me and I think I am correct in saying this boot was created by Simon Soussan) That recording is actually a slightly speeded up recording of Epitome of Sound because it sounded more of that time being speeded up.
