I've collected, DJ'd and danced to Northern Soul since going to Wigan Casino in the late 1970's. These recordings are made so that long into the future, anyone can visit RUclips and continue to learn about and listen to this fantastic music, after I'm gone. They were recorded in the USA at a period in time when sadly overlooked. Only to be discovered and played in the 1970's soul clubs of the UK, and now played in many venues in countries all over the world. Many are recorded on obscure record labels, that simply never got airplay and the small number of records that were pressed, just disappeared. Hence their rarity.
If you wish to find out more about the fantastic and varied world of Northern Soul, search out the website - SoulSource. I warn you though, once down the rabbit hole, you could be hooked. I have no affiliation to the site, but there you will find a wealth of knowledge from dedicated lovers of the music. Together they know every artist, band member, pressing plant, label, label owner and origin of every track. Some so knowledgable that they can even tell you who the third saxophonist on the left was on some of the recordings. Others on the rare soul scene though may argue that it was his brother! Whoever is right, Northern Soul fascinates and satisfies many over 50years on.

Brian Smith Cheers Brian, it’s great to share one’s soul!
Nice selections, you have spent a lot of money over the years well done.
Cheers Dave. It’s been a constant dilemma of musical chairs since Wigan closed - every year thinking the prices had peaked. But thankfully values have been maintained as the Northern Soul movement has grown around the world. The best investment has to be in something you love.

Peter Hailes Thanks Peter, it sounds like Robbo heard the wrong Baz though! I’ve been asked but couldn’t make Bury. I’m Baz ‘Sharpy’ Sharples. Next sets I’m doing are the Tudno Radio Weekender in Llandudno, The Wave Festival in Conwy and Manchester Soul Festival at Tiger Tiger for The Christie. It would be great to see you both at one of ‘em.

Cheers Mark, star man!
BazFromThePast Do you ever get booked for events on or near the South coast ?
Not yet Jim. If the cash for Cancer research is enough, I'd make the journey if you know any organiser down there? They can contact me on Facebook under Baz Sharples.
7 dislikes, smells of jealousy what’s not to love 💔
You never know, not everyone likes the same sounds. If you’re right though, folks should realise the sacrifices and risks taken to build a northern soul collection. Better still, as you say, just love and enjoy the music. Cheers B
