This is coming from a Met fan. I thought his deal would eclipse 200 million. Best Heater in the league right now and looking very much like a guy who is a young 30 coming into his own. If Volpe is the real deal the Yankees will be contenders year in and year out as they have always been despite the doom and gloom the fans have been projecting of late.
I remember when he was a CWS. He had a high WHIP, then a high ERA, and then a high rate of injuries. Here's hoping we get something more like an ace with a 3 year run. We should be so lucky.
@@dominicc5420 Well it's better to be optimistic. He's two years removed from Tommy John surgery and I'm sure the Yankees mentioned that to him while negotiating his contract. He did have a solid last season and in my opinion they had to make this move (BETTER THAN NOT HAVE MADE ONE AT ALL) . So we'll see what happens
@@josephbell2160 I'm trying to be positive but the yankees still need to do more getting a 30 year with 2 good seasons doesn't fix all there holes. Yes it's 100 percent better we got him than not I just wish most people didn't think he solves all pur problems. I especially find in funny that I've heard that this is the best rotation in Yankee history and they now have the best rotation in baseball and in my opinion neither are true
@@dominicc5420 Yes but you've still got a negative mindset. Rodon being 30 years old is no problem but you've automatically made it one.(THEY SIGNED CC SABATHIA AT 29 FOR ROUGHLY THE SAME AMOUNT AND IT WORKED. DID IT NOT?) He's a good pitcher and the Yankees needed to make this move. Who else was available? You have to look at it from the standpoint of you can never have enough pitching. Besides they didn't lose in the ALCS because of their pitching, they lost because they didn't hit. I don't agree that they have the best rotation in the history of the organization. However I do believe they have one of the best rotations going into the 2023 season. So stay positive they're not done yet. I've been a Yankees fan since the 70S and no Yankee fan wants them to win more than I do. At least they're doing something so start there
@@hanklewis769 That was a different pitcher then. He's better now and knows how to pitch. Don't assume the Astros will have the same success because of the past. Pitchers do make adjustments
Good video. Excited about Rodon he also seems to have a strong desire to win, a fiery guy which is the X factor most players don’t seem to have nowadays. Not sure why people are optimistic about Montas though. He was terrible last year and seems to not care at all about winning. Why are people convinced it will be any different next year?
I'm going to be very skeptical about him in the Bronx with the injury history, the high ERA, etc. If he works out, great, but right now, it is a wait and see type deal.
"You clicked on this video because you're excited this guy is now a Yankee." No, I clicked on this video because I saw a Yankee with a beard and needed an explanation.
Apparently all the people saying he sucks in the comments have never bothered to watch him pitch. And this video was also correct in saying how bad the Giants defense was last year...watching their games it was almost laughable at times how bad they were. Even with that horrible defense and offense he still managed to win 14 games and put up a 2.88 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. As bad as the Yankees were last year offensively (not counting Judge) they were still far better then that Giant team and they rate in the top 1/3 in defense. As for the contract, 162 is a bargin these days with starters getting 35-40 per year. Yankees fans need to worry about the offense, not the pitching. That being said Cole should probably by demoted to the 3rd spot, while his overall numbers look good, he gives up far too many homers and just some seriously bone head pitch sequences at times. Lets all hope Sevy can finally stay healthy long enough to reclaim the ace role, Nasty Nestor in the 2, Rodon 3rd, Cole 4th and figure out who is 5th.
Loved Rodon as a Giant. Believe he holds the record for most double digit strike out games in a single season in Giants history which is kind of insane.
Question, he's had two good season, so do Yankee fans or fans in general think it's enough consistency wo warrant the contract and do y'all think he's shown enough for us not to worry that he will have downward trends?
He’s had two GREAT seasons but he’s been a very good pitcher even before 2021. Being drafted 3rd overall in the 2014 draft, Rodon had always been a highly touted top prospect with ace potential and it seems like he really put it all together in 2021. As all pitchers, with age he’ll definitely start to trend down but we shouldn’t have to worry about that anytime soon. So to answer your question absolutely he’s shown enough to warrant the contract and in a couple years this deal will be looked at as a steal, somewhat like how the Zack Wheeler contract looks today.
Ima subscribe. I never subscribe. But this told me everything I needed to know about this pitcher. I pray he does well in the hitter friendly Yankee stadium
No, I didn't click because I am excited. I clicked to correct that "he's so good," should be why he WAS so good for 2 of the previoius 5 or so seasons. I plan to take as much money as a I can off the people who are "excited" enough to bet he is going to think Rodon's next 6 seasons will look like has last 2. FWIW, Chris Bassitt at 3 x $21 is a better deal for any team that is Rodon at 6 x $27.
I'm glad he's not on the White Sox anymore he could never finish the damn season. Hopefully for you Yankee fans he can stay healthy because for the White Sox he was nothing but a disappointment that never finished the season.
As a Giant fan and huge follower of baseball, I never felt he would stay in San Francisco. With that said, I also never felt he would last or ever be durable. He seems to be high effort and it wasn't sustainable. I wonder if the Giants were ever seriously considering bringing him back and giving him a huge contract. I highly doubt it.
"You clicked on this video because you're excited as hell that Rodon is on the Yankees." False. I'm a Giants fan, who is here to punish himself, wallow in pity and bemoan the newfound cheapness of my favorite sports franchise. Imagine if SF would've retained both Gausman and Rodon - the playoffs would've been a real probability this season, instead of a hopeful possibility. Yankees fans: you got a good one. Rodon is a beast.
His numbers wont be 100 million dollars better than JasonT.He's already had surgery on his pitching shoulder and TJ at 30 years old.Good luck on a six year deal.
Guys I'm a huge yankee fan and I hope om wrong but look at his stats he's 30 and has had 2 good seasons , he is not an ace or even a number 2( on a top team) he's a good solid 3. As a Jays fan, it surprises me how time after time the Yankees sign older players. Why not develop players more like other teams do. They better win this year as this team gets older every year. Cannot get rid of Hicks, Donaldson and Giancarlo too.
