Hard Pass... I have been working on my freehand sharpening and making good progress. Ultimately, you have to be willing to go through the learning curve. Thanks for the video! I enjoy your sharpening content. 😎👍
I started on a fixed angle system. They have their place. Of course, they also have learning curves as well. Not for everyone, but i see a place for it.
okay. i’m starting to get what you are saying. glad you mentioned that you weren’t very confident with your non dominant hand. & it turned out better than you thought it would. saw that link for the wooden bridge too. no tool shabby .& it doesn’t take too much time at all really. Tried the sharpie marker for the first time about a week ago,& that 1 little trick was very helpful. I will keep looking at your videos + the other links you left for me in the other response on the 940 video when i have the time & see what happens. who knows,i may have doubted my potential to quickly. I don’t have the 940 yet.It looked like the part of the blade near the end where it turns upwards was going to be a difficult area to sharpen. A reverse tanto…Need to get it in hand to get familiar with it. mAs a matter of fact ,the 1 knife I did the sharpie marker trick on was a tanto blade. I only have a couple tanto blades & that isn’t my favorite blade shape .I was trying to make progress on all of the blade surfaces without messing up the blade shape. I just didn’t have the right tool for the job. I’ll get it figured out with some pointers. & i’ve already gotten a few from you. in 2 videos .& suggestions on similar products that are better than others. Avoiding a few wrong moves because of that already .nice!
As far as the “knife stop” bar or guide, which is supposed to help rack with the holder forward along the honing stone, this does limit the thickness of stone you can use, but the old design did not have this stop bar. And it can be completely removed and dissassembled in the case you want to use it more free range or are using thicker ceramic stones. So it is not really a con here. Up to the user if they want it or not.
That is very easy to use. The only issue is theres just the angle of the clip. If the knife is more obtuse you gotta reprofile which can take a lot of grinding. I did two videos on that thing. One of my kost viewed actually
They saw you coming when you bought that. It probably works mediocre for sharpening hand planes and wood chisels. You could use it for reprofiling blades, then switch to freehand.
Should have convinced him to give you the pro model which is way better. Same thing happened to Jerad Neeves. Received the bare basic model. Mine will accept all 6x, 8x, and 10x stones, snugly. I also have the dual clamp plus the magnetic base. For some reason he dumped the dual clamp, which to me is the greater asset. The guy has a good product but he's not the communicating type. Support for parts doesn't look promising for my model. I do recommend the pro, but apparently it's not available anymore. Thanks for sharing Jef.
@@Jef you should try the 3m wet n dry it became pretty faster after that in my eyes. But everyone likes different stuff most important thing is that the knives get sharp
@@Jef it worked extremely well for me and another one here in norway that has en. Just used it with water i think it was 400 grit i used cant fully remember
It's easier than it looks. Since the plates are brand new, there is alot of friction, causing it to bounce around. Also, you can do sections. I was trying to create a continuous, non stop, flow. Which, if the plates were a little more broken it, would have went easier. You are correct; those little plastic guides, are less hassle :) All boils down to what you wanna try for yourself
Im failing to see how that makes it any easier, _especially_ for someone starting from zero. People are always looking for ways to make simple processes as complicated as possible.

Interesting review with surprisingly amazing results. I can't wait for the next video.
Thanks. I think the other system will probably be much better. Will try to get it sorted out this coming weekend

Ill have to look at that 👍
good deal Jeff. thanks for the demo. that will work for my mom who lives to far away for me to sharpen her kitchen knives.
There maybe other options that are easier to use but i think it is easy enough to figure out
@@Jef was also thinking about the Chosera knife clip that goes on spine of a knife and a good stone or two. any suggestion appreciated too.

Enjoyed the video. For me I think the stone movement would be distracting. Thanks for posting.
Yea that’s annoying for sure. Tape would work I’m sure. Less pressure and having the diamonds broke in wouldn’t hurt either. They are super aggressive
Interesting concept !!
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for checking it out

I believe there is a rubber holder for that diamond plate. You can ask them.
Right on. Do you know if they are being included with the devices, or, does everyone have to request it?

I got the one with just magnets. Purchased on my own. Will be getting into it soon
@@Jef This is great. I will watch for sure. I just wish he had the dual clamp
for you to try. I'm going to inquire.
Wonder id it can be purchased as an add on. If he even carries them still
Did your utility sharpener come with magnets?? Mine did not come with any..but the sharpworx demo shows a magnetized knife holder
No. The master 2 has magnets
Kool video Jef nice knife
Thanks 🙏
What is 5hd wooden holdef calldd and where did you geg it from.
The sink bridge? I got it from chefknivestogo.com
What was the lubricant in the bottle that you used?
4 parts water, 1 part dish soap, 1 part baby oil.
Have you tried your pdt plates anymore? Mine got much faster after using some 3m wet n dry sand paper on em. Also both of mine where dead flat
I let a few other folks try it out. Most seemed to really enjoy it.
@@Jef you should try the 3m wet n dry it became pretty faster after that in my eyes. But everyone likes different stuff most important thing is that the knives get sharp
3m Sandpaper? That seems like it would glaze the surface. If loose sic doesnt rough it up i would be very surprised if sandpaper did.

Nice. I got some 3m here. Soon as i get the plate back I’ll give it a shot
Man that would take some getting used to, prolly better just to use some of those blue plastic guides

@@Jef I shot you an email brother, I know you busy but just a heads up
It did sound like a rough cut through the paper.
I feel spastic with my left hand with some things.but it can be overcome.
later on.
Me too. My left hand is about worthless

People are always looking for ways to make simple processes as complicated as possible.
One of the hardest things for people to do, starting out, is holding an angle. This does it for you. Not a home run for everyone 🤷♂️
