    You've produced him beautifully and carefully, good on you! This is so nice to watch because Khal is a prime example of a horse that isn't the most flashy or scopey-looking youngster but when given the time has blossomed into a very capable horse. Lovely to watch well done to you both x

  • @lizlavoie5672
    @lizlavoie5672 6 лет назад +39

    I have no idea how the heck you stayed on when he did that huge buck going over that jump. My goodness I most likely would have landed on my face!Being thrown off balance and trying to stay on while trying to get him not to run off, and at the same time getting him back to you. Wow! That’s a lot to do at the same time. You handle those situations so well.Khal is just a beautiful boy. You can see Fiona in him by the way he just locks on to the fences. Such a good boy!

  • @nala3055

Thank you for your time making and posting this x

    OMG! I love this!! I love that when you are riding him at the beginning, the group of horses are at the gate watching :D
    In regards to BTV, I find many babies just play with the bit to start---and you can see his evolution of learning! What a clever, clever horse!!! When you came off, you could see poor Cal was just like 'OMG! Human!" after the jump and he just darted sideways.
    I wouldn't say he is afraid of poles--he's quite bold--I think he is just learning/was learning and not sure. I absolutely LOVE how balanced he is!!! Even got his leads!!

    your lower leg is amazing! could you do a video giving tips to help with a lower leg?

    • @nala3055
      @nala3055 6 лет назад +5

      Try to keep your feet right under you, in line with your hips, and keep your weight down, otherwise if your legs are in front your feet will swing forward every time you rise to the trot

    • @lorrainekissane5641
      @lorrainekissane5641 5 лет назад +2

      Stirrupless work. My instructor makes me do 10minutes every lesson (I have a lesson every day), and it’s helped me in the long run with my seat and my lower leg, because she makes me rise my trot without stirrups, which strengthens my lower legs.

    Hi I like your videos and how you show people what you doing with your young/older horses. I have a question which you could make as a video, and the question is. How to lung a horse to build up muscles on its back? The reason why I am asking is there's a horse I know that has back issues cause it gets ridden but in the wrong way. It's rider doesn't really ride the horse and when she does she does it in a way where the horse ends up back pain. I'm asking for myself as well just in case I ever get a horse in this simpler way.
    It would be really good if you could make a video for this question. ☺️

    Have u got a video on how to get your horse on the right leg ? xx

    • @nala3055
      @nala3055 6 лет назад +7

      When going into canter, make sure you're going round a corner. When you do sitting trot going into the canter transition, move your outside leg back and put it on to engage the outside hind leg and strike off the outside leg into canter. Also, make sure your horse is bending the right way going into the transition not just flexing

    • @chandlerthomas8726
      @chandlerthomas8726 6 лет назад +1

      yes exactly what Nala 305 said, always make sure their head is bending towards the inside before asking for the canter

  • @clarebear28

    Love seeing his progress! Can I ask though why after his summer break did you switch him from no noseband to a grackle? From what I know with grackles you use it on very forward going horses (e.g. TBs for xc) but I honestly don't have as much experience as you with horses so genuine question m

    • @ellaz8800
      @ellaz8800 6 лет назад

      Clare Lynam my pony goes in a grackle because he doesn’t like the position of a cavasson - he’s not particularly strong just finds a cavesson uncomfortable for some reason

    • @HollyLenahanSJ
      @HollyLenahanSJ  6 лет назад +2

      This isn’t a grackle, it’s a normal noseband with a flash. I don’t think grackles are limited to fast horses. The purpose is actually to prevent the horse crossing their jaw :)

    • @clarebear28
      @clarebear28 6 лет назад

      @@HollyLenahanSJ thanks! I've ridden grackles only on OTTB's really because the instructor said it was easier to control when we rode in a field if they tried to take off. Personally I would just prefer to sit forward and let them gallop off for a bit, blow odd some steam after warming up but that's just me. As I said in previous I'm not as experienced as either of you, I have the bhs stage one but that's it! All your horses are beautiful and I envy you soooo much
