Growing organically, evolving into an authentic pan-Latin American cultural identity. Cuban music has its roots in "Rumba" from West Africa, which is based on the five stoke pattern called Clave. Rumba is a generic term covering a variety of musical rhythms. One of the rhythms is “Son” Most musicologist have supported the hypothesis that the direct ancestors (the earliest forms) of the Son were developed by peasants from Bantu in Africa. The word Son from Latin “Sonus”, denotes a pleasant sound. which reach Havana around 1909. This marked the start of its expansion, becoming Cuba’s most popular and primary format which is the basis for Salsa music today.
