Very nice man! Not sure if you're familiar with Cesar Santos. His base skin color is windsor and newton's light red. He uses titanium white to create skin base peach, then raw umber for shadows, pushes toward yellow with pale yellow ochre, and red with cad red. Then enrichens skin folds in light with indian red. Mars brown also comes in handy. Tone down chroma by mixing a white to black grayscale of paint that the grey value can be added to the skin color to tone down chroma without altering the value of the skin. Cesar is a very clever and technical painter and can replicate at the Masters level. I only say this because creating skin color is VERY DIFFICULT to achieve the warmth of skin without making people sunburned red or pale pink, but also not leaving them yellow. Anyways, Excellent work, keep it up, you've got TONS of time to continue developing and you've off to an incredible start.
Reach 3D Printers I’ve seen almost every video from Cesar Santos! Love him and how he articulates painting theory. He is brilliant. Thanks for the comment.
i recently got back into painting. i stopped drinking and i have way more time on the weekends. and well im watching all ur vids slowly to improve on my skills. im currently learning values. i like the way u explain things and the way u explain how to practice. thanks for the quality content and all the great ideas u have!
I subscribed to you like a week ago, you had 25 K, you are finally getting all the subs you deserve, I'm a painter myself, watching you is so much fun and inspires me and is really useful!!
I saw him for like 10 seconds in a kiptoe video and barely saw his characters but decided to check his page out. I legit have started painting so much since then. Plus I've been saying "let's get weird" forever too 😂
Oddly enough, right at the very beginning, I thought to myself I’d love to see this artist in another time period...speaking as Romeo may have. Then you brought out the books and I thought it was an amazing thing. I love your portrait and explanation. Thank you!
I really appreciate how you structure your videos - as by the introduction, your thought process - the middle stage, the explanation how you will continue, the next steps ..what you're aiming for etc. (especially the emotional rollercoaster you can experience while painting, and that pushing through could (or does ;) ) lead to an outcome that's most certainly better than expected. ) - And finally the recap. where i personally want to compliment you on your ability to analyze your own work in a not only artistically educated way but also objective and positive. Its really nice to listen to an artist who is able to praise himself for improvement or a specific part of the painting that worked out well. And it inspires me to do so myself. As a dedicated artist and graphic designer i can really tell how much work you put into your artworks and videos, it shows and its worth it! I enjoy your content a lot!
One thing I’ve always loved about painting is the pallet and how it turns out in the end. I’m so happy that you have a camera on your paints. I’m glad I found you in recommended ! I’m inspired now to keep practicing
One of the greatest things ever taught to me was shadows. My art teacher said you cannot have a clear image without dark colors. Reminds me alot about life.
What I like about your portraits and other realistic paintings is some sense of calmness, some deeper feeling, some spiritual vibe. It is great! Thanks! Thanks for sharing your passion with us:) good luck
Hello, you are honing your skills. Thank you for sharing how you work to improve your skills. We only have two artist friends (we listen we know through observation) they are not too bad over the past 3 and 4 decades they each have really become quite good at their works. One is pencil one of water, that is all we know about that. Thank you, Lance & Patrick.
And with each practice painting you will become the best! One self portrait a month, what a goal! Not only does this make you a better artist, but look at the time capsule you are making of yourself! This was a good painting!
Greetings from England, I am self taught and have studied the old masters.Well done, carry on like this and you will improve. I know you will because everything you said in this video is right.
I'm teaching myself. I watch a ton of videos. Yours are fun. I like your work. It's been one year since I started and I'm still practicing, but it's getting better.
You have IT. I often think about what it is that makes people tolerable to just sit and watch vs others that are unwatchable... i dont think its something that can be described. . . I think first and foremost if you have genuine passion into what youre sharing, people will appreciate.
this would be the single most dysphoric experience 🙃 no shade, just love that you frame it as so easy when a self portrait is easily the single most difficult thing I could ever be tasked with painting, and most of that would be facing myself
I've been drawing/painting for 30 years now and I gotta say I see a lot of potential in you and I thank you for showing us your learning process in that honest and enthusiastic way. I assume you're younger than I and seeing you gives me hope in future generations (feeling very old as I say this xDDD). Thanks! Keep it up!
That looks amazing!! I like the reflective light on you jaw line, I like how you made the background lighter on the dark side and darker on the light side and you captured your likeness. Great job!!
This is honestly phenomenal though, I personally love this style being able to see the strokes of paint rather it looking so blended, I found a lot of inspiration from this video!
you really inspires me! I'm a art student and aspiring artist here in Brazil and I don't know how but you just showed up on my feed and man... ur incredible! thank you for that! keep doing this, ur amazing!
Great to see someone talented also still practicing! It only makes sense, but a lot of painters only show the successes, making it look easy. This is so much more interesting to watch!! I would love to give it a try someday as well. Unfortunately I have absolutely no oil painting materials. It's extremely expensive to start with and I also just don't have 2-3 hours to spare very often (which is why I now use acrylic paint. Less flexible, but faster. And a LOT cheaper as well....).
Another amazing video! Love to see your process and your advice! That's what I keep telling myself is practice, practice, practice! I see myself improving every week! Can't wait for the next video! Stay weird!!
Loving it man, i used to do a lot of self portraits and I've been struggling with the daily grind of working on art. Getting really motivated from this, gonna get the brushes and charcoal out today TY
I agree, your best yet. Williamsburg make a red ochre and the best available naples yellow, and you already use Gamblin perylene and napthol, these plus any ultramarine would make your color mixing a great deal easier. Start with the red ochre and white, and see if it needs warming or cooling. It's very ambitious to stretch from graphic conventions to fine art, but it's great that you work so hard.
I really enjoyed watching this video. I watch lots of art vids but something about this dude's style and personality made me want to see more. Guess i'll subscribe :)
I just love your videos man....i think you deserve more subs and views, keep going strong! You inspire me to return painting, and im having a great time, thank you dude
im enjoying your videos, i only just discovered your channel and you give so much advice that i just might start applying to my work. Ive been wanting to try oil painting for my channel, i love digital but I ADORE traditional media. you're awesome!
videos are getting better m better. love the edits n cuts n your commentary while the video plays in the background. truly see the work you put into the videos. glad I found your channel last week n subscribed. can’t wait for more videos
You can just tell how much passion and dedication he puts into the painting and the video and god damn do I aspire to be like you SLEW. Hope life is well friend :), also about to watch the mural and street art gallery vid, can't wait to watch and enjoy those too!
Hi, just came across your channel. I watched the 6 portrait challenge then this one. I am a floral designer but not skilled at all at painting. I really appreciate the process you took us through. I found it fascinating. Thank you for a really good video. I'll go binge watch your channel.
Ive been a fan of you since i saw you in the video of kiptoe, and i see now that you are finally beginning to grow! Love your vids, prolly my fave youtuber right now! Dont stop man
Love the video and the breakdown of your own process. I've definitely been guilty of wanting results sooner rather than later XD But you are right. Practice, practice, practice. It's the only way.
Dude. I just gotta say you’re awesome. I discovered you maybe last week and I’m obsessed with your work. We have very similar art styles, and you’ve given me inspiration on branching out with my own artwork. Thank you 👍
YES!!! 🙌🏻 I myself is on a bit of a self-portrait journey - exploring different medias but sticking to one subject, my face! Sure it sounds narcissistic but it’s the one model an artist always has available 🤷🏼♀️😊
Just came across your vids, and before the 4th minute expired on the first one I saw, I had liked and subscribed! You are an engaging and natural speaker, you make viewing effortless and enjoyable. Your work is excellent too.... Two thumbs up Dude! I'd give you more, but only have two hands!!
If you know what you're looking for, this is like a painting course. ^^ Great video! I really enjoyed it and I will definitely check out more of your stuff! :)
what a sophisticated dude-bro...like the chillness of a stoner mixed with the classiness of a professor
“Chill ness of a stoner and classiness if professor” couldn’t have said it better 😂😂
Love how you explain your painting skill, you have inspired this 70 year old to do her first selfie!
wawhoo!
It's a shame we cannot like more than once, you are a great narrator on top of a great artist
“It’s a little jank, but it works for me” that’s the motto for my setup too lol
Haha same
Thumbs up for painting yourself...
Painting process starts at 4:44
However lots of great rambling before that you wont want to miss
Very nice man!

5-Minute Art I wish I had a job but I’m studying now
I love how much he dedicates time to learning how to be a better artist and understanding art. it shows in his pieces

Great video and lovely portrait. Thank you!
Try not using brown, and instead mixing your own, I think you will find that you end up with a richer-toned painting in the end.
Really enjoying watching these. So much talent.
Definitely helpful! I’m trying to learn oil painting right now and it’s sooo different from what I’m used to so I need all the videos like this haha
Love your enthusiasm

You are so talented! I am so rusty in making a self portrait. I usually am stronger with color pencils, or pastels.
