Located in the Western Range of the Tangkhul Naga-dominated Ukhrul district in Manipur, Somdal village has played a crucial role in India’s oldest insurgency. The village has contributed several leaders to the Naga movement and is the home of the current NSCN(I-M) general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah. Muivah was born here in 1934, but hasn’t set foot in the village since 1963 after leaving to join the Naga political movement. ThePrint's Yimkumla Longkumer and Angana Chakrabarti visited the village and met Muivah's family and villagers to understand what they think of the current status of the Naga peace talks.

Yes i would like to add to that! they live in their own lil bubble and seems to blame any little mishaps on the meiteis.
First thing they have the ST reservation and land protection which means they can stand as a candidate not just from the reserved 10 seats but the remaining 40 seats are open for all (not reserved 4 meitei) which is evident from lishang keishing reign.
MLR act severely restricts meitei settlement beyond the valley where there's free passage n settlement with little to no consideration for the native meitei.
Then if we are gonna talk bout budgetary allocation please don't get me started with the Autonomous district Council for god knows who's pocket all the budget seeps into. For if their people's leaders were all that sincere who are the meitei bureaucrats to say otherwise.
Lastly if we checked the demographic profile of the top govt. employees. It literally screams reservation privilege.... for god's sake please practice christianity rather than propagating it

Nagas think they are special , having own culture , custom etc but what they don't know is that every state in India is unique language , culture , customs .
Nagas haven't fully come out of tribal mindset that the place they live is country and having indian Constitution with special naga article considered ruled by an outsider . Nagaland joining India as a STATE , means that ruling nagaland lies with people of nagaland . People of nagaland can exercise right over entire India but people from other part of India can't do so because of the special provision allowed for nagas .

In meetei dialect tangkhul means preciuos locality where meetei and tangkhul had very close relations, it is said that some tribes goes to the plain (imphal valley) first and it came to be known as the meeteis and the one living behind at the hills were the tangkhul. Even we meeteis performed occasion every year like mera wayungba which means lifting up a pole with touch on the top to let the brothers know that we are okay. Even in meeteis ancestral holy festive times known as lai haraoba, there is always a dance know as tangkhul jagoi practice from times immemorial. The term Naga came very recently. From The Statesman, a Kolkota based newspaper ... an excerpt
Last year I met two important Nagas of Manipur. One hailed from Ukhrul and was an academic before becoming a minister and the other was a cabinet minister in numerous ministries in Manipur. To the second one, who hailed from Senapati district, I asked “Tell me what wrong have the Meiteis have done to the Nagas so as to blame them for all the ills of the community. And as a former PWD minister you know that there exists a Tribal Sub-Plan in the planning documents of the state and also that all contract works in the Naga areas were only given to the Nagas.” He laughed and said, “If we don’t blame the Meiteis for our plight what else can we tell them while asking for votes.”
To the academic-turned-politician, I recollected how during my tenure as a member of the State Human Rights Commission, I had toured Ukhrul and registered over 20 cases in two days all relating to cases of non-completion of school buildings, road constructions abandoned half-way and, dispensary buildings left incomplete. And while issuing notices to the state authorities over these issues relating to Right to Education, Healthcare, good communication, sanitation and safe drinking water, we had specifically asked them to include the names of the contractors concerned to whom these tasks were initially handed over to. Then, I told him that all the contractors turned out to be local Tangkhuls who had made their fast bucks and left the area to settle down in Imphal.

As of my observation, Tangkhuls and other fellow Naga tribes in Manipur seem much patriotic and values about ethnic brotherhood of Nagas regardless of divided political boundaries.
As a concern individual to say, it's not fair to undermine any tribe or community base on different sentiment one may have over the other so long as Naganess is concern for a common goal and aspiration.

An attempt to expose the misappropriation of development funds in Senapati district, proved very costly for Kh. Enoch, a social activist from lower Phaibung village of Manipur.
Enoch along with P. Johnson of Taphon Phymai Village in Senapati district had sought information under RTI act on the dispersal of funds for various development projects, carried out by Autonomous District Council.
A sizable chunk of the funds meant for all Nagas were allegedly embezzled by some corrupt ADC members in collusion with senior leaders of NSCN/Isak-Muivah faction, and used for personal gain.
On January 20, armed cadres of the NSCN-Isak Muivah faction abducted Enoch and tortured him for daring to file an RTI in the matter. They kept him locked up for around 10 days at some unknown location and pressured him with death threats to withdraw the RTI.

Lastly if we checked the demographic profile of the top govt. employees. It literally screams reservation privilege.... for god's sake please practice christianity rather than propagating it
IT IS A GOOD THING THAT KUKIS HAVE MADE US REALIZE HOW MUCH OSTRACIZED WE ARE IN OUR OWN LAND!
INCLUSION OF MEITEI IN ST IS A MUST

Activist abducted, tortured by NSCN-Isak Muivah faction for filing RTI application in Manipur

What is the difference between Indian nation and Nagas? India is a union of different peoples and communities like Nagas.Nagas have no common language, boundary or culture, a union of different tribes settled in Nagaland,Arunachal Pradesh, Assam,Manipur and Myanmar. A group of people may aspire to form a nation, its their desire but if it is contradictory to a nation already formed, and as strong as India,I think it will remain as unique history without achieving the ultimate goal without understanding among the people living together in this part of the world.
