    I greatly appreciate Matt's emphasis on being a part of a local church and take it seriously. But if life ever relocates me to the Dallas area, man, I'll be at the Village before the doors even open that first Sunday. His sermons have been a great blessing to me.

    I took my wife on our first date to hear Matt Chandler speak it Grace in Abilene 2001. We would then drive back to the Angelo listen to those "tapes" in the car the whole way. This man mightily influenced my walk with Jesus as a young college student. Now as a father of eight with my smoking hot wife, we will sometimes to watch Matt on RUclips with our whole family. Be blessed Matt.

    Hi Matt, hopefully this finds its way to you. I SUPER admire and value your teachings (my group did your Phillipians study years ago and it was awesome). I immediately wanted to watch this video as I've been struggling with "arena culture" as well. But, I think part of the problem is, as well-intentioned as large churches may be, the model of a large church allows for enabling that behavior. And I also wonder if we're fooling ourselves that we can make disciples in large congregations. And something you said made me think of that, because we've ran into this same issue at my church: we have all these new believers and we need someone with a Bible. But doesn't that reflect on our own disciple-making? If we continue to get new visitors or new believers, but have no one to disciple them, isn't that because we've dropped the ball as mature Christians when it comes to developing others? Here's my point: we train to play, but we also train to train. As a mature Christian, each of us should have our own group of disciples, right? Or at the very least, we've witnessed to people and have helped them find community. And I wonder if large churches can really pull this off. And I say that as a member of a large church. Again, super admire and love you my brother in Christ, and really would value your thoughts on this.

    • @betetet
      @betetet 5 лет назад +1

      Jerome, I just thinking out loud, as you... My conclusion, why couldn't large churches disciple well if trained to do so correctly? With all the people there is someone for everyone to reach out to and to help. I think the mentality that we always need an 'ordained' leader to have a group is what stands in the way. God ordains persons. The prayed up, studied 'layman' Christian, (I don't like the word layman, but you understand when I say that), they can hear from the Spirit and reach out and minister on a regular basis to the same and/or different people, right? Why not a big congregation when people are in the Spirit it works. Look at how big as fast new believers grew on the day of Pentecost. God is a God of multiplication.

    • @jeromeschmidt7805
      @jeromeschmidt7805 5 лет назад +1

      @@betetet Really great thoughts, thanks Ellen. I totally agree, God can do that work through us even in a big church. I guess where I'm going with this is, it feels like we are putting the cart before the horse. Meaning, we have been focused on the numbers first before the plan to disciple, or have even equipped enough people to disciple the growing numbers. Especially when thinking of the great commission: to make disciples and teach them to obey all Jesus's commands. In my experience (I say that as a disclaimer, since there may be churches that do this) as still a current member of a big church, the focus and efforts have been toward getting people in the door (not a bad thing necessarily), and not training and equipping.
      And not just Pentecost, but Acts (particularly Acts 2) is a super good example of how we could possibly restructure ourselves and restructure how we do church. God was adding people daily because of the complete, intimate, miraculous way the Body was living their faith in Christ together. Part of me wonders if a large church model prevents that from happening. It's hard to hold people accountable, to develop those relationships, to get intense training from well equipped teachers to then become teachers/elders/deacons ourselves.
      Sorry, going on a bit of a ramble :) I really appreciate your reply!

Just letting you know that that guys appeals to emotion, personal umbrage, and the sycophantic partisan dogpile from the hosts didn’t fool me. I envy your ability to be surrounded by dishonesty without feeling overwhelmed. I’ve noticed something, commercial preachers straight up look evil. I don’t know why that is but I have my suspicions. What is "arena" culture?

    • @decklanwilliams4779
      @decklanwilliams4779 3 года назад

      I may be wrong, but from what I gathered from his preaching is that arena culture is where the congregation of the church is basically being entertained rather than taught. Meaning they come to the service listen, sing, clap and go home without any proper teachings or relationship with their leader or God himself. The body of Christ has a function and the congregation should be able to learn what is their role and purpose in the body not just to be “entertained” as one would be in an “arena”

  • @rorygirl9958

    Pastor Matt, arena worship...
    Have you studied the altar? Where is the altar and if there is one, far more important, where is the sacrifice offered in Protestantism? OT, NT, the prophesied “perpetual sacrifice”, the “continual sacrifice” are ignored. Oh please, consider the holy SACRIFICE of the Mass.
    Amazing, there are multiple present day non-Catholic Christian prophets for the holy Eucharist! Jesus cannot use the word Eucharist for upbringing, disbelief but He says it. Here is example. This is prep:
    To Protestant Susan O’Marra
    Saturday, October 29, 2016
    “I have an answer for you, and it’s found in Me. I want you to eat of Me. I want you to feast yourself upon Me. I want you to look into Me. I want you to cleave to Me. I want you to join with Me, for I have an eternal supply, and I will satisfy you within and without, for the pleasures of My Presence are forever. I have delights and I have pleasures for you.
    But many do not understand and they do not hear it. But Children, look and draw near it, and no longer fear it! Its time to gear it. It’s time to gird yourself with Me! It’s time to gird up the loins of your minds and begin to see and understand that it’s Me!
    I am the Bread of Life, and those that eat of Me shall never hunger.”

    We need apostles and pastors. I think the challenge here is to not create a new law for people. For those with the Holy Spirit we are under the law of freedom (check out Galatians). A lot of the people who go to arenas to hear the word of God are also being shepherded by a local pastor in their home church. Eat meat sacrificed to idols, don't, I don't care. Have a clean conscience as you live by the Spirit.
