Kellogg's Breakfast Tomato - Is it really the best?

- The Kellogg's Breakfast tomato - the tomato we gave away in the seed giveaway this year turns out to live up to the hype. In this video (which was actually recorded July 9, 2018) I sample the Kellogg's Breakfast tomato for the first time. The Kellogg's Breakfast has a wonderful flavor, and if you like salting your tomato, after recording this video, I tried the second half of the Kellogg's Breakfast with some salt. It was delicious. Tasted more like a melon than a tomato. While I do not get a lot of production from the Kellogg's Breakfast, if you grow your tomatoes for flavor, you should definitely try the Kellog's Breakfast tomato.

This was my first time growing the Kellogg's Breakfast tomato…thanks to your seed give away; thanks again. I will definitely be saving these seeds for next season.
The Kellogg's Breakfast tomato does have an excellent flavor…not too sweet and not too acidic…just right for us. The only down side is the production per plant…typical beef steak…thank goodness I have 4 of them planted! I have 2 single stems and 2 double stems…single stem produce large tomatoes while the double stem tomatoes seem smaller…personally, I prefer the single stem and I’m a firm believer in pruning. I highly recommend this tomato : )
Definitely one of my favorite yellow tomatoes, great taste, healthy, big producer
2023 I grew these for the first time. I can NOT believe the crop! Tomatoes were more than one pound each, averaging 6-7 tomatoes per plant. It's an amazing tomato.
Great work! That is a fantastic yield.
Have both Kellogg’s Breakfast and Berkeley Pink Tye Dyed, both are amazing!! Wil try Brads Atomic Grape next year! Thanks
My favorite the best. Most disease resistant of all my heirlooms. I get great production. 20 plus through the season. I trim the bottom foot and any suckers until the get up into the cage then just tuck them in and let them grow. Great plants full of lbers and great looking and great tasting.
Wow how many fruits per plant do you get? 20 per season over all your plants?
@@alfrancis8 I get around 20 per plant give or take a few.
@@alfrancis8 even better is that the I only fertilize once right before planting. Yep only once.😁😁😁
@@michaellane9079 Thats encouraging, i'm planting in containers so my expectations are lower. Anything above 5 is a win !
Just planted some of the seeds from some I bought online… looking forward to trying them! Thx!
Hope you enjoy!
I’m from north central Kansas and I have pretty good luck growing these. They taste pretty darn good
How many do you tend to get per plant?
@@BestGardenChannelonRUclips I plant around 12 or so of that variety.
Beautiful 🤩
I read these were developed for WV. It must be true. I had to continually cut mine back, they tried to take over my garden. They were delicious!!
Added this to my repitau or however you spell that so far it’s outgrowing Cherokee purple , brandywine and mortgage lifter , looking forward
I grew this in a a 30 gallon grow bag using leftover potting soil from last years cannabis grow, Foxfarm coco coir and Happy Frog. So far I've had about 20 fruits most between 12 and 24 ounces, but a few smaller ones as well. It is a prolific plant. However, the taste pales in comparison to the red brandywine and Cherokee purple. I have no plans to grow it again.
Yeah, as orange tomatoes go, I have also decided I prefer the Amana Orange tomato (and actually the orange hat cherry tomato is delicious too).
Where are you growing? I’m gonna try these here in AZ. I like the single stem method as well. Especially with indeterminate varieties. 😁
I’m in the Kansas City suburbs.
@@BestGardenChannelonRUclips I heard tomatoes grow better with some Jack Stack BBQ sauce. I don't know about that, I don't dare waste any :)
I grew Kellogs big brkfst this season just to try something new. Never grew this tomato b4 and now that one has ripened and i recently harvested it, not sure what to do with it. Any suggestions?? Maybe I’ll just wolf it down like u did. Anyhow, thx for the video.
Eating it straight (or with a little salt) is an outstanding option! It also is great for a BLT or any other place you use tomato slices.
I'm just about to start mine. Low production? How many tomatoes should I expext from 1 plant?
Depends how you grow it. Single stem 2-3. Normal maybe double that. Others may have had different experiences though.
@@BestGardenChannelonRUclips Thanks :)
I have one plant. I didn’t prune it heavily, I only pinch off a sucker here and there every now and then & I have quite a lot of tomatoes 🍅. But, I just do that bc I’m a do the best I can gardener - work full time, have three kids, homeschool, etc.
I hear you there. Far better to do what you can!
Ive heard Dr Wyches is the best!
Kellogg's Breakfast has been, by far, the worst tomato I've ever had. I've tried 3 gorgeous fruits and literally had to spit them out and tossed in the trash. Plant has some green tomatoes on it and I'm pulling it today.
Ran to grab a Brandywine Yellow to try to erase the trauma. It was delicious but I cannot forget KB anytime soon. Never again.
What was the flavor with spit out bad quality? Bitter, sour, earthy?
@@BestGardenChannelonRUclips I'd have to pick 'earthy' if I had to pick. IDK, they just tasted bad. I've tried 4 now off my one KB plant. All were picture perfect gorgeous looking tomatoes. :o
Yes, I'm amazed.
@@karunald were they yellow or did you let them get orange? Because the yellow does not taste good!
