    Great summary down in the comments. I've had my 701 since 2016 and already done a lot of the common upgrades. But this year I invested in a Seat Concepts seat and the Rade Garage fairing to make the bike more long distance and adventure ready. And it really has changed the nature of the bike in all the ways I wanted it to. It's now a much better road bike and still just as capable in the dirt. Basically what I'm say is, the upgrades really work and if that is the direction you want to take the bike in, I can recommend the upgrades in this video. (I can't comment on the extra fuel tank, as I've not felt the need for one)

    • @OSR_1
      @OSR_1  2 года назад

      Thanks! Yeah I was really impressed with the fairing and extra seat comfort, I don't know why KTM/Husky don't make something similar from the factory as a 'rally' version of the enduro - I bet it'd sell better than the stock as it really does transform the bike!

    Fantastic looking bike. I went with the seat concepts seat on my 690 and it changed my life. Can now enjoy 10 hour rides. Your seat looks pretty comfy too. I don't understand why KTM/Husky make such hard seats for the 690/701. They promote it as a travel bike.
    I haven't done the extra front tank upgrade yet. I am getting 300 km (185 miles) out of the standard 13.5 litre tank. A bit less when doing more dirt. Be good to have another 5 litres, but haven't needed it yet.

    • @OSR_1
      @OSR_1  2 года назад

      Thanks mate! Ah that's another glowing review for the Seat Concepts :) will need to give them a try in future on different bike projects. Completely agree, always boggles my mind how most manufacturers make rubbish seats.. I think it's because they want to sell their own aftermarket 'comfort' seats.. but even those aren't actually that comfortable most of the time!
      Nice that's good mileage, I haven't actually tested the range on my stock tank, I should probably do that and get some real figures! I do enjoy the improved airbox that comes with the kit though, according to Rade Garage it adds an extra 3-5 hp on the mid-range. It definitely sounds fierce!

    Nice build up. I recently bought a used 2021 700 E. Have some of the same mods, but I’m wondering what year yours is and how you feel about the rear shock. Mine feels like the high speed compression is excessive even dialed down to minimum.
    I have the stock spring on it, and the sags measure good for my weight. So I don’t really know what I need to improve that. It’s very sharp feeling on pot holes and sharp edges. The fork seems ok, just the back end it too stiff.

    Hello - I very much enjoyed viewing your bike and its features. Many useful accessories and now looks tour ready too! On the topic of touring, how do you find the bike on road and around 110-120klms per hour constant speed? Does it manage that speed well/easily without too much rev or engine strain and how do you find the long journey distance and comfort with your new fitted seat and fuel volume? I am seriously considering buying this bike, as I view it as a general one fit all unicorn bike, but not sure about longer multi day trips and touring etc. I am also looking at Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro, but it is considerably heavier!

    • @OSR_1
      @OSR_1  2 года назад +2

      Thanks Sasha!
      Good question, the bike on the road at those speeds with the latest upgrades is absolutely fine. I can sit comfortably at 70-75 mph (112-120kph) with plenty of overtake power left over.
      Fuel capacity and range is no longer an issue as I can easily do over 200+ miles (321km+) which is the equivalent to most big adventure bikes.
      Road performance is fine. Coming from road bikes and a R1250GS Adventure, it is obviously not as road oriented or sophisticated/comfy.. and with it being a light bike on off-road tires (if you fitted them) this is also something to consider as you will be blown about a lot if caught in very windy conditions. However comfort wise it's good for me, I don't find my bum getting numb any earlier than I did on my GSA now!
      A fellow Advanced riding instructor and friend here has a Tiger 900 Rally Pro and loves it, it's a beautiful machine and will outperform the husky 701 in every way on road. However on the dirt (anything more than gravel roads) the Husky will be the victor every time, and it has enabled me to make my way around some technical off road with relative ease, and i'm still a beginner off-road. I'd feel much less confident on anything much larger.. although many people were doing fine on the middle-weight adv range of bikes (790/890, T7, etc..) which are in the same category as the tiger.
      That being said, what the Husky does do, is give me confidence that I can go anywhere and tackle anything. Coming from BMW's that have a lot of electronics and technical stuff going on, I struggled to trust the idea of taking them to remote places as they aren't easily fixable unless you go to a specialist mechanic/dealer. The 701 is great in this sense, this is why the 690 platform has been used for so long by adventure riders around the world.
      So I guess the questions for you are: What type of riding do you plan on doing? Do you have other bikes or are you looking to only have one? .... if you are just going to spend 70+% of your time on the road, and do light off-roading.. and it's your only bike... i'd go for the tiger personally. Stick some decent 50/50 tires on there like TKC80s and you'll be fine :) If it's more off road and true adventure then go for the husky ;). You can always buy yourself a 100% roadbike later on ;)
      Maybe see if you can get out on test rides of both?

    • @OSR_1
      @OSR_1  2 года назад +1

      I'll try and put together a 'Living with the 701' style video in the next few weeks. Perhaps this will be helpful to see/hear how it comes in different scenarios? :)

      @@OSR_1 Thanks for the terrific advice above mate, very insightful and comprehensive. You've given me some key facts to consider next and I like how you distilled it all to the above question about what type of riding I plan on doing, as ultimately that's a key determinant to customize

      Hey, at this point it would have been 4kg over stock dry (as 3kg was saved from exhaust which levelled out the tower/fairing, leaving the skid plate and crash bars as additional weight). I mention dry weight Ofcourse because the optional addition of 4.5 litres of fuel isn’t really relevant imo.
      However following this video I added a antigravity lithium ion battery which saved a further 2kg - meaning the setup was then only 2kg heavier than stock dry :).

    • @OSR_1
      @OSR_1  2 года назад

      Hey Jonathan, yes not had any issues so far. From my research these bikes and the ktm 690 platform are pretty reliable now as they’ve been around for a long time. They also don’t have lots of electronics that can cause it to have a meltdown and leave you stranded like the majority of modern adventure bikes.
      Most things can be fixed yourself and the bikes weight savings over the AT will make life a lot easier should the worst happen and you need to be towed or put the bike onto a trailer/truck. (Good luck lifting an AT!)
