  • For the past 60 years, progress in information technology has been governed by Moore's law, which states that the number of transistors on a semiconductor chip doubles every 18 months. However, this remarkable trend is drawing to a close, mostly because the electrons that carry current in chips move like cars driving through a crowded marketplace, swerving around obstacles and dissipating too much of their energy as heat. The recent discovery of a new state of matter "the topological insulator" may lead to a new paradigm of information processing, in which electrons moving in opposing directions are separated into well-ordered lanes, like automobiles on a highway. This talk will explain the basic principles behind this amazing discovery.

      @@pancakebb6384 it has everything to do with intelligence. Prof. Zhang loves poetry, and the best of all poetry: William Blake. He got so much inspirations from poetry. Please no name calling.

    Reduction to elemental concepts, (not components), is getting the attention of the naysayers who rightly suspect simplistic answers to complexity. But then if the analysis technique is turned around to accommodate detractors, QM is given a simplistic label of "weird" and dismissed as a "mystery". A "crisotunity" as Homer calls it indicates the swing of the pendulum. Great talk.

    I would be interested to hear what Lenny had to say. Also, I would be interested to know what capability this has with scale, i can see how it would be great for lossless data transfer but could it be scaled for bulk energy transfer, would the larger channels break the topographical effect?

  • @RiDankulous
    @RiDankulous 7 лет назад

    Interestingly, Moore just so happens to be a person that is close to the control of the rate of increase of computing power. It's a bit easier to predict something over which you personally have some control.

      I agree.........it was probably something along the lines of "Trump is a Doosh" ..........& they edited it out for his own good.........I'm curious too

    • @humanonearth1
      @humanonearth1 7 лет назад +3

      I find it contemptuous they edit it out. It's the same criticisms to celebrities sharing their political views. It's nonsensical. Someone dedicates their life to being good at something. As soon as their noteworthy we say to them, we don't want to know your opinions on anything but your exact niche? It's disrespectful. It's draconian and illogical. Not in keeping with the open growth of scientific knowledge.

      Worst case it is poor ideas and it sparks debate, plus shows the human apes even the most brilliant of humans can have poor ideas. It seems to me. I suspect it is pretty good content though, which sounds even better to me, then what I previously suggested. Information wants to be free and whatnot.

    I believe we could use some sort of biological material to create transistors then instead of using electrons it can use photons! Because all the cells in the body emit light dna etc.. so that can b used for information transfer like one of the system's the body uses! it's call biophotonics! Much Love 💙

    Just wanted to say that he was obviously an amazing person. But, they shouldn't have suicided him, because he wanted to express and share his wonderful technology improvements to the world. I mean it would be no problem if we didn't have identity problems and we had good country cohesions. Imagine USA and China were happy together, both in some kind of symbiosis. Always protect yourself.
