    A suggestion from a guy that does this for a living. You should get a piece of wire and run it up inside all of your drains as you open them. Raw water cooling system = rust. Rust = plugged drain. Plugged drain = water still in block. Water still in block = cracked block.
    This would be the reason to run the boat up to temp before pouring in the antifreeze. Doing so will open the thermostat which will allow the antifreeze to enter the block before being spit out of the exhaust. That way if some water was still left in the block it’s not just water.
    Couple more things: the marine stabil 360 has fogged in it. Much better product then fogger. Spray down your entire engine compartment with WD. Yes it will cause your compartment to get dirty faster, but corrosion is a real thing. Add desiccant jars in the compartments to help with this. Alternatively to running antifreeze I personally take thermostat housing off and pour antifreeze straight into the block.
    Boat safely friends ✌️🇺🇸

    Another great video. A little long, but info is good. I would add a few things to your list. Trickle charge your batteries, spray WD-40 or other anti-corrosion on metal parts in hull, grease rudder bushing if applicable to get water out and prevent leaks next season, add 303 vinyl dressing to all of vinyl to soak in all winter, open up hull as much as you can to let it air out, and rinse trailer with fresh water outside and inside frame using small holes in bottom of frame to get salt off. I also recommend ceramic coating the hull to prevent stains and make it easy to rinse off water slime or wax your boat every year which I think you have on your list. Winter is also a good time to check and replace all your impellers (engine and ballast pumps). They should be replaced every other year IMO or bring spares and tools with you to replace on water.

    consider adding the fuel stabilizer when you fill your boat the last time, I would be worried the stabilizer may just be in the filler neck when the pump auto shutoff stopped the fill with the gas level above the top of the tank? but maybe you don't fill it that full? Consider installing or temp installing a trickle charger for your batteries, this will keep them fully charged in the off season. The lead battery connections have a limited number of times you can flex them before they get weak. but if you do remove them, only need to remove the negative one from each battery? I really like that these engines are closed cooling, makes for easier winterization and don't have to monkey with the heater at all. The boat I would like to get offers a heater for $1000, would you get that? I like that yours has a shower, Supra does not seem to offer that?

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  4 года назад +1

      I fill my boat before I leave the lake or on the way home, no wasting time on the way to the lake. But I can try to remember to bring the fuel stabilizer with me on the last few trips. Hard to know which trip that will be. I do use a trickle charger, was just saying it's up to the person if they want to and how long their layup is. Shower is almost worthless to me, I won't be putting it on another boat. Heater is very useful for us. Great tips!

    I'm going to winterize my 2019 22LVS for first time this month. Boat will be wrapped and stored outside in the NW. Do you recommend flushing engine with antifreeze or removing all drain plugs with good enough to remove all water. Also, I don't have a flush kit installed, so I want to use antifreeze for peace of mind, do I pump it in (5g bucket) through Fake a Lake plunger and run engine until pink stuff comes out of exhaust/back? Thanks,

      That is what I would do if I were you. I do it even though I house my boat inside where it only gets below freezing when it's negative outside. I could certainly get away with just draining, but I prefer to flush with antifreeze.

      Hi Brian, I would love to help you out but it would require me to take more things apart than I would like to unless I need to fix something. I would then T off the intake for the starboard rear ballast ahead of the pump. I hope this helps.

    Did you run the engine with the fake-a-lake until it reached normal operating temperature to then pour the antifreeze in?

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  5 лет назад

      Hi Cesar, I did not run it until normal operating temp, I just poured it in right away. No reason to get to normal operating temp when adding antifreeze. In fact, adding antifreeze is not required at all so long as you are comfortable with how you've drained everything. If you don't add antifreeze you would want yo pull a hose or 2 as well like your manual instructs you to do. Depending on the thickness of your oil, it can be very helpful to run until normal operating temp before you drain your oil during an oil change.

    I have never used a fogger but I would be concerned that the air filter would condense and absorb most all the fine oil fogger mist. The whole concept of spraying oil into a system that is designed to pass clean dry air seems scary to me, not sure if there are small ports that would then be more likely to collect dirt and plug up?

    • @wake_mann

    How do you actually store your boat in the winter?
    i live in canada so i dried it out for a month, had the dealer properly winterize it. added desiccant and had it shrunk wrapped. when i removed the wrap i found mold all over the soft grip flooring. any suggestions how to prevent that for next season? I have an axis A24 (2018)

      @wake_mann  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Kyle, I store my boat in my insulated garage which is nice and dry and Montana is just very dry in general. I think you did a good job, but the only thing I might suggest is to open everything up and leave it out in the sun for at least half a day before you shrink wrap. I'm sure the wrap just trapped any moisture you had built up from use over the season. Its also good to do this every so often throughout the season. Hope this helps, thanks for the comment!

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  4 года назад +1

      If you have the raptor 410 then you don't have to worry about your heater core as it is part of the closed cooling system. If I didn't have a shower I would only pull the plugs and disconnect the hose as the manual shows. It doesn't hurt to do antifreeze though; better to be safe rather than sorry. @@vanvisualmedia2821 you're welcome. The raptor engine is the first marine engine I've encountered that is a closed cooling system. The raw water is basically like a radiator in this scenario.
