I think it was just a shock value thing. The Boxer with the sword expected Lewis to strike him but he turned the tables around. Movie was filmed in 1963 so interesting to see some actual weaponry/Chinese Boxing/Kung Fu on film.
Agree with 1st reply - the Qing prince was making out there was no way a Westerner could hurt a Boxer, but instead of cutting at the Boxer, he thrusted, thus taking him by surprise and helpless

I don’t think the USMC were involved in D Day, they were too busy getting a hiding from the Japanese. The Normandy invasion wasn’t an American enterprise, it was the U.K. Canada and the USA. Interestingly the USMC haven’t been successful in any military engagement since 1945. They do suck really bad
