Oh my Kaiba boy, I do appreciate your enthusiasm, but I'm afraid I don't have the time to deal with you today. So instead, allow me to introduce you to my new favorite, Killian! The ink duelist! Do be careful Kaiba boy, or he might just write you out of this story, sending you to the shadow realm forever!!!
I think that one angel from Kaldheim that allows you to foretell any card, including Zendikar "Traps" which don't have foretell by themselves, is the only way to actually have a face-down trap card in Magic so far 😊.
One card that I think is really good for this deck, if you go the Voltron route, is Odric, Lunarch Marshal. Most of your auras will become global auras for only your creatures. Toss in Zetalpa, Primal Dawn and you've got yourself a 2 card win con.
This is a the reason I really love EDH....you see a new card or Commander and then you see potential from it from Old cards you never really used from years ago. You get to take your collection out and just look through it all and just remember how good things were back then.
Killian also works really well with auratog/faith healer synergies thanks to the discount, you can play despondency and brilliant halo for 1 and sac them over and over and with simply an enchantment payoff and some phyrexian altar you have a nice loop
Orzhov auras is gonna be interesting in standard with this, with Hateful Eidolon and escape enchantments for the damn rogues Not to mention, removal becomes super cheap with this, I love it
I would have taken this a completely different direction, taking advantage of the 2 cost reduction to removal spells seems super powerful. 2 mana utter end and there are probably a lot of different removal spells that have upsides at 4 mana, now reduced to 2.
this is exactly where I went as well when thinking about building him. I originally was going to make a Reaper King destruction deck, but I think I like this more. Besides I have too many 5 color decks!
After months of testing I built a spell slinging life gain Voltron. Which has honestly been working out. I highly regardless what build you take put in Hatred . 3 B B B for instant damage battle trick where you can pay life instead of mana to pump Killian. Easily kill someone by turn 3 with that card.
I really like the idea of a “Silverquill” deck. Ever since I saw the “Command” spells from the first spoiler I’ve been intrigued. I’m a Simic player at heart, but I can’t wait to see these new twists on the color combos playstyles.
I would suggest "Blightcaster"...giving a creature -2/-2 for each enchantment you cast could be a good source of creature removal in a aura heavy deck...imagine casting 2 enchantments for 1 or 2 mana each...maybe getting 2 cards..the effects and removing a 4/4 or 2 smaller creatures (and getting around indestructible at that)
This card goes perfectly in my Athreos, Shroud-Veiled EDH. Put a coin counter on a creature, have Killian out, and easy removal and I now control that creature!
My mind immediately went to reanimation effects. Theres a lot of "to the battlefield" reanimation effects but they mostly cost 4-5 mana if they have no downside. So if you can fill your opponents graveyards, you can be getting some monsters for very little manq with no downsides.
He could be really interesting in a Feather, the Redeemed, as long as you can find a commander in Mardu that synergizes with them, or some Partner pairing that also works. With Feather and Killian out, spells you play that target your creatures come back and are cheaper.
Well, I already said Strixhaven looks like Harry Potter going to Jaden Yuki's Duel Academy, so I guess something like this was bound to happen at some point... 🙄 🤦♂️ 😂
Really disappointed that no Jin-Gitaxias. I really thought it was going to be real since we got green, but since wotc has a huge hard-on for green. Not really surprised.
Question: Would that creature have to be in play? I'm thinking it does have to be in play but if I'm wrong it has much bigger applications like targeting things in the graveyard or even the library.
I was thinking about the precon from 2015 call the spirits. Daxos the returned can also be good. He has an ability that allows him to make enchantment creatures that are spirit tokens that gain 1/1 for every experience counter you have. And you get an experience counter for each enchantment that you cast.
Nah, that deck never really worked for me, so I put Ghen, Arcanum Weaver at the helm and made it Mardu. Daxos the Returned is great to create cheap throwaway tokens that happen to also be enchantments, so you always have something to sacrifice for Ghen 😊.
And we didn't even talk about mutate creatures... okay that's more a standard thing but Kilian also works with mutate (since mutate is a targeted creature spell)
Yo question: does the cost reduction effect targetted reanimation effects? Like nothing on the card specifies creatures on the battlefield but it seems like something that could be overlooked
things that refers to a card type are specifically talking about permanents of that type ie "all artifacts you control are indestructible" means artifact permanents you control. artifacts in gy cant have indestructible, for obvious reasons. If Killian counted things it graveyards it would have to say "target creature card" not "target creature"
This boy seems so good but I'm more excited to see your opinion on the mono white flashback bird (because I think that one has people on either side of how good it is while this one is just a brick of solid card)
One question I have, if a creature says "When this ETB's, target creature..." it does not count as a spell targeting a creature right? Because at that point it is already a creature and no longer a spell? I wonder if there is a creature that reads "As you cast this do X to target creature."...
@@Aedryn6210 for clarifocation the cast trigger is separate creatures cannot target permanents on the stack. They can have abilities that target ie Ulamogs cast trigger so this commander can't reduce creatures although it is a really cool design I love this card really interesting
the one big think im disappointed about with the house is that theyre not really playing up any mechanical themes that represent using Ink magic. Which sucks cause thats such a cool concept
can someone explain to me why a avid simic and quandrix fanboy like me was printed as a silverquill card? This makes no sense, but I GUESS I am now legally required to build a Killian deck. FYI: my name is Killian Hey Mitch could you please make a deck tech on Killian please, This deck seems so fun, I really want to build it
I'm pretty amped for Killian. BW commanders are usually pretty boring for me, but this seems spicy, and he is going to bring me one step closer to completing my 10 guild decks

I will also copy Kuribo (Myr Galvanizer + Splinter Twin + Iron Myr combo) an infinte amount of times and swing for the win! My Opponent: I overload Cyclonic Rift in response Me: (┬┬﹏┬┬) ... GG my guy
Does anyone know how the interacts with spells that CAN target creatures, ie, sheoldred? Or targeting cards in the grave like the sepulcher primordial?
I believe it wouldn't do anything for sheoldred because it doesn't target anything on cast, idk about the primordial but I'd guess it doesn't because it's an etb not cast trigger.
I'm in the usual place at 11:04. I'm currently $3.27 for my Modern Masters 2015 printing on TCGPlayer. Please reprint me already! Budget players looking for ramp without playing green have suffered enough.
Now if I could only put Blue-eyes White-dragon in my dragon commander deck without getting dirty looks from the rest of the table.
If you showed up with blue eyes altered over an Ugin or something I’d be hype as fuck.
-X would be PROMINENCE BURSTO STREEEEAAAAAAAMMMM!!!!!
You're only getting dirty looks because the Blue-Eyes is peeking out your card sleeves.
Dude, honestly, just get a card altar/proxy of a real dragon that looks nearly indistinguishable. Lmfao
Giving them ideas for a new secret lair :'v
I wasn't enthralled by Killian when he was spoiled, but this video convinced me. I think I'm going to have to give him a try, thanks!
Someone was going to say it eventually. Thank you for your bravery.
What do you mean? Did I miss something?

This seems like a really easy budget commander to build around.
As an Orzhov player AND a Yu-Gi-Oh player (and fan) I'm LOVING this
Nice aprils fool yesterday
I'm glad you're here for us. This seemed like a fun commander but i just don't have time lately to do research. Thank you mitch.
I can't believe no one's mentioned Eidolon of Countless Battles yet
MtG's resident Yu-Gi-Oh player as a commander 😅
Looks like a cool commander for pauper edh, I might try to build that
So hyped they finally made Krim a commander
Finally a Legendary Human Warlock to represent my current D&D character😁
Many magic the gathering players ask the question does mitch sleep?
Killian reduces the cost for ANY creature, so now your kill spells also coat less
Besides the pause in the D, that was a good impression!
Cards like cage of hands or sun clasp synergize with heroic and constellation
He's so edgy, he doesn't duel with the power of friendship.
In contrast to a Yu-Gi-Oh! duel, in Commander, friendship can actually help you. Except it's called politics 😂...

I brewed up this EXACT style of deck just last night, I love your thoughts and cards!
Thank you for how much you have been doing this spoiler season! Hardest working man in Magic is definitely you!
I'm excited to build around this guy! Great job with the spoilers!
Orzhov has always been my favourite, but there has never been an orzhov commmander that popped out to me until now.
Mmmm, oh yeah, I'm gonna build this Duelist a deck. Good thing I just dismantle my Feather and Blackbriar decks. Pump spells and auras, here we go!!!
Would having creatures that have effects targeting other creatures on etb work?
I don't think so because the etb ability is the thing targeting, not the spell. I think bestow would work and maybe mutate?
Killian also works really well with auratog/faith healer synergies thanks to the discount, you can play despondency and brilliant halo for 1 and sac them over and over and with simply an enchantment payoff and some phyrexian altar you have a nice loop

Parting Thoughts would also be a great card in this deck. Pay B to destroy a creature is great, and it has the potential to draw a card or two

I’d make this into a voltron deck
After months of testing I built a spell slinging life gain Voltron. Which has honestly been working out. I highly regardless what build you take put in Hatred . 3 B B B for instant damage battle trick where you can pay life instead of mana to pump Killian. Easily kill someone by turn 3 with that card.

Mitch,
Much love, you're killing it this spoiler season.
But when do you sleep?
So with something like Righteous Confluence, you could reduce the cost as long as one of your three was the exile target enchantment?
No, it's specifically cost reducing spells that target one or more creatures
