  • Changing your transmission fluid on a 2004-2006 Toyota Sienna is an easy job that can be done at home with simple tools.
    This procedure should be done 3 times 3000 miles apart in order to allow the transmission to adapt to newer fluid properly.

    The man is showing people how to drain and fill the fluid. Great for a guy who wants to do that. It would be good to explain to people that it is best to drop the pan and replace the filter as this likely has never been done on most cars. Today's automatic transmissions don't have a drain on the torque converter so after you're done with your initial service you should train and refill the transmission at least two more times.

      Thanks for your concern but this video was titled fluid change not fluid plus filter change and yes, it would be better to change the filter as well but that is extra work that believe it or not a lot of people are not willing to do and yea most newer cars are sealed but this video was directly intended for this vehicle which isn’t. I also did leave it in the description below saying multiple fluid changes will be needed and will probably add it in the the video in the near future.

    You can do this drain and refill process a few times at close intervals to replace the majority of the fluid. The complete and faster way to do it is to (1) drain and refill ONE TIME as you've shown, (2) before you turn on the car, disconnect the return hose from the transmission fluid cooler and place the end of the hose into a container, (3) turn on the car and the car will pump the new fluid through the system and force out the old fluid including the torque converter and cooler out, (4) turn off the car after you've collected 2 more dirty quarts, (5) refill the pan with 2 quarts, (6) repeat steps 3 through 5 until perfectly clear fluid comes out. At that point, you will have collected approximately 10 quarts total of dirty fluid (including the drain and refill from step 1) and have replaced 100% of it with new fluid and can drive worry free for 60k miles. Prior to doing all this, I replaced my radiator which has the transmission cooler built in. Reason is the original transmission cooler fitting tends to break off without warning while you're driving, the tranny fluid quickly drains out, and the tranny gets toasted. This is a known flaw that the Car Care Nut talks about.

      My 2006 sienna is still slipping in some gears on the way up and hard shifting down into 2nd, I've done the drain and fill twice and added Lucas oil, I just bought it used and the slipping started just a bit after, any tips other than drop the pan and drain it all?
      Also my rpms are quite a bit higher when I am in 4D like 3000 when I am driving 70 is it supposed to do that or is it just not shifting?
      Thanks very much for you time and thoughts.

      I’m sorry to hear that but I’m gonna just going to say it you straight your transmission is on its way out no matter what you try when it’s at that point already … I would start looking in to getting it rebuilt or finding a replacement
      And to answer your other question I believe it should in the 2000 range going about 70 in the highway so it might just not want to shift in to the last gear anymore… but hey wish you the best of luck and if you don’t mind me asking how many mile are on the vehicle right now?

    Unless I missed it, please add the same amount of fluid you have drained from the transmission. Adding less will lead to slips and adding too much will overwork the solenoids and various other malfunctions. The fluid also acts as a “cooler” it draws out the heat from the transmission to then route it to the oil cooler same concept as the engine cooling system only smaller.
    Don’t forget that once you obtain the ideal fluid level to then turn on the vehicle and switch throughout all the shifter selector for about 15 seconds each.
    I would recommend to always use OEM parts unless you driving a Sh!tbox that you just need to barely work for you.

Being that this oil was NEVER changed, I'm curious if BRAND NEW oil ended up hurting it more than just leaving it as is? Actually a 2004 Sienna has 10 quarts of transmission fluid in it.. So you are replacing 1/3 of the fluid in the transmission.. Just draining the pan. Definately better than nothing. Meaning after a short distance the fluid will get darker and dirty from the fluid that wasnt replaced.. Spend the extra $$ and have it all replaced....Most placed will do it for under $150.

    • @carverse6579
      @carverse6579  2 года назад +2

      Yea it’s not recommended to do a hard flush like that if your that many mile’s overdue especially if your experiencing slipping cause sometimes the particles left in the dirty fluid could be the only thing keeping it going… but that being said this procedure should be done 3 times 3000 miles apart to allow the transmission to adapt properly to the newer fluid.

    One pan is like changing 1/10 of the dirty fluid. And it’s just mixing with the rest of the dirty fluid. Need to do that 10 more times, or more.
    Best to drive it some then on another day do it again, etc. Do this in like a two- three week, then it’s flushed. I would use Toyota Brand since the manual says only to use Toyota Fluid, but if it’s working right, I guess no harm. Yes you have to “waste” new fluid, but what you are doing is diluting the dirty to clean, which is why you need to do it so much. But good thing Toyota puts a drain plug and allows you to drain it easy. Most cars don’t have one, so Pan removal is needed.

If you change the fluid every 40K ~ 60K miles you will GREATLY improve the longevity of the transmission. Transmission fluid gets very hot and gets metal and clutch particles built up inside of it. When the fluid gets hot it breaks down how well it lubricates / protects the transmission.
