Hand-raise here for “excited for Sinden -> got my Sinden -> played Time Crisis for 90 minutes after infinity-minutes (!) of setup -> Sinden idle for a month+ now” camp. Thanks for this!
I can't tell you how long I spent making AHK files, converting to exe's trying to get everything automated, then I double click and it does something funky with the resolution and falls over. It's super frustrating.
I hear that frustration. I get it when you can't figure out what stupid little variable is fucking uo your workflow or play flow.
I don’t understand having zero compatibility for consoles. I followed Sinden nearly a year before recognizing he had no intention of supporting the industry was all love. Aka if it can only used for emulation your supporting game theft. While I admit the game theft ship has pretty much sailed, my assumption was he would cater to the massive console sales audience vs the much smaller emulation crowd. You all of course connect the dots here I hope - look what happened to the music industry….
@@YamsekWell to be fair, light gun games aren’t really *made* for anything other than arcades anymore, not really since the PS3 era. I’ve barely seen any *ports* of older titles, let alone newer material. Closest I can remember was the House of the Dead remake and like…two NES Zapper games getting put on the Virtual Console section of the Wii U eShop, which has since closed down. I would absolutely love to see more devs give making new home or pc light gun games a shot, especially indie developers! I know the Enter the Gungeon devs released a light gun spin-off recently, but again, it’s arcade-exclusive. I guess we can only hope for now.
@@MrSkerpentine My son showed little interest in my nostalgic light gun games, sadly. The Quest 2 VR will blow your doors off with a shooter experience, so the younger crowd is not as thrilled. HOWEVER the Quest is a solitary experience, vs the ‘party’ or guest fun of an old school shooter. IE those in the room cant share in your journey. It will cast to a tv for room spectators but makes the game play drag drastically
He also offers a paid drive, with REALLY awesome support. He basically will setup a meeting, log in, and configure EVERYTHING for you. A great value!!
I didn’t know that, thanks man! I appreciate you watching!
Thank you so much! My Sinden was literally collecting dust because it was so frustrating trying to get it working with retroarch! Not all the games work, but like you said some is better than none! I had so much fun once I got it working I didn't even notice it's already 1am lol anyway thank you!
I Love Sindens, they are so worth the effort. Once set up, they become plug and play. Bit they arent for everybody
Ill be definitely trying this out. I too was beginning to think my sinden gun purchases were wasted! Thanks for the unintentional birthday gift video!
You rock Ralph!
Happy Birthday man! I appreciate you watching brother!
Big fan of light gun games. It’s the main reason I have a crt. Having something like this makes it more approachable for those that don’t want a crt in their house, which I think is great. Keep up the great work Ralph!
Agree that Sinden can be a hassle for people with less computer knowledge. I love my sinden and use it a lot. Especially cause it needs no ir-light and feels great in the hand. And its very precise.
Awesome video. I just came back to retro gaming and did my own Batocera build on a Beelink 5800H. I have to say, I’m so impressed with Batocera as a whole - this stuff is light years ahead of 5-6 years ago. I’m definitely going to give this image a try on an external drive when my Sinden arrives!
Keep me posted on how it works for you.
How did it turn out?
I'm so exciteded for this as my Sinden guns were in the box for 9 months now because it was horrible to setup.
Hopefully this gets you going easily 🙏🏼
Building a gaming center for my community. I have the Sindin lightguns but have been struggling to find the best setup to use them. I have Been testing steam games a lot but it just leaves too much for kids to navigate and get lost. This video was HUGE for me because I'm not the techiest person and still you made this simple & possible to build fun stations for these kids! thank you!
Retrolizard light gun box.
I ended up downloading a 2tb image batosera that has a few more sinden games. I didn't needed the other none sinden games because i already use coin ops, hyperspin, pi's etc, but it was nice to have more sinden games and the 2nd player is also recognized immediately. plug and play babyyyy
I like your arcades it feels like if I go there I'll never leave
Thanks for this, im was in the same boat with the Sinden as others this is a great first step to making it usable
I love when you make these DYI videos and totally geeked out over it. I saw the Food Fight cab and Godzilla pinball at the end. I can't wait for you to do video behind them. I love the fact that you don't keep an item stock but tinker with it to give you better quality of life features.
(DYI) Do Yourself In? :)
Funny story... And great timing.... I stumbled upon the existence of this batocera build just last week when I was researching what dual boot setups i could experiment with on a Atari VCS (I just purchased last week on clearance... for experimenting around on playing around with what i can get it to do)..
Just brushed off the dust of my sindens 2 days ago .. to get prepared to mess around..
And then you do this video..
What great timing!!
JJ from OZ 😉..
Ps..what I'm interested in most is if I can get both my sinden guns to work with this setup.
If he Atari VCS fails me...🤣. Then I'll try it on my Intel NUC i7 🤞
Oh wow, I never thought to use the VCS, I have one collecting dust, that would be a fun test! I might have to try that out. Let me know how it works out for you. Thanks so much for watching!
Another here who has a sinden gathering dust, last time i tinkered was trying to get ps3 lightgun games working i was 90 percent there but not quiet perfect after weeks of trying i gave up but this seems a good way to get some usage without the time suck so thanks
This looks cool! Awesome video!
A controller with a gun helps. So 2 controllers for 2 guns. You would need either 2 usb ports for a 1 player or 4 ports for 2 players. But you need a usb controller per sinden gun
I decided to download im now waiting for my first light gun ive had since a kid! Sindens aren't as expensive as gun4ir but I'm excited to get back into gun games and at home! I can't wait to try this out.
Thanks for the video and all the info!
The frustration of the Sindens comes from some titles working plug-n-play while others force you to jump through the hoops. The biggest variable with the issue you were having is the GPU and how it will handle the interrupt requests vs a dedicated GPU. I've been trying to setup Sindens on a projector, so that's been an additional layer of complexity. Totally worth the frustration. Your vids have been a nice distraction, though. :)
Thinking of a projector install myself, how did this work out? I have a 100" screen, wondering if it'll be successful.
This isn't just an issue with Sinden. Setting up any custom config on Windows seems to break with OS and software updates unexpectedly. It's making windows really hard to have a stable setup on. I'd recommend a bootable USB with batocera and updates disabled. So it'll always work!
I have been using batocera for my builds and it's been fantastic
I find Batocera to be the best in the sense of controller friendly UI. Sinden has worked great with it and now PS2 light gun games work.
My sinden setup is currently fantastic but took ages to get it to exactly where I wanted. Getting the barebones Pi4 image working on tv and projector was pretty easy, and probably another good place to start for people, but it wasn't until the latest software update that I was able to mess around to get my TV / Windows setup dialled in. Its a fairly technical endeavour.
would you be willing to help me set mine up I've been having so many Issues willing to pay you for your time
Yes, This is exactly the video I’m looking for… I’ll be getting my Sinden shipped soon and this helps!
Giving this video a chance. The sinden light gun is a gigantic pain in the ass.
Light Gun Lunatics loves these vids. Your challenge is to beat Rays time in Time Crisis. 🎉 On his Gun4ir build.
I've got lots of light gun games and no way to play them... I'll be watching these
Awesome, I hope it helps you out.
Thanks for the video Ralf. As it goes I have a Sinden light gun and was planning on making a cab for it so this video was a big help! The thought is to make a flat pack cab and pop a pc in there gun games to live next to my temperamental Crisis Zone cab. So, thanks again for the help!
You need to bring Kim in to review the gun games. Have to make sure none of the hostages get away...
That dell is what I'm going to put in my arcade just need the time
crosshair aiming is for rapid fire games like operation wolf, t2, revolution x. Its un natural to have a 1 trigger pull = 1 shot aiming with crosshairs
What an awesome video Ralph! Thank you for sharing! Great content!
No problem and thank you for watching!
Interesting stuff Ralph. I would just say that in defence of the mini pc, they run on a low power level compared to pcs so activating the recoil probably finished it off power wise! Also a lot of the issues with sindens and emulators are with getting the second gun working. I wonder how the image handles 2 sindens simultaneously?
appreciate the effort you put into this video
Old school Retro Ralph was exactly what I was thinking while watching. I very much enjoyed the video!!
Jurassic Park was an Analog Joystick Game
Alot of times especially with newest MAME i have also to turn down the Sensitivity on Turret or Analog Joystick Shooters when playing with a lightgun - dunno why
I would so hire you to do basic desk side support just to hear you say... "oh shit" when the clip comes off.
I rewound that part like 10 times and laughed harder and harder each time.
Yes! Thank you! Such a useful video.
This type of video's is why I became a subscriber.
Didnt even know there was a plug & play for gun shooters?! Thata awesome and thanka for the Sinden link.
For the same Sinden price I got a GUN4IR clone from a chinese portal. I works so much better: less latency, no gitter, really precise shots, no cross needed, no recalibrating, no lightning issues, it rumbles, much lighter and it's wireless!
which one did you get?
@@davids2276 a light beige one that costs 80eur or 120€ if wireless. Look for '1PCs New USB Wired / Wireless Light Gun Gamepad Shotting Game Parts Used For PC With LED Sensor Arcade Game DIY Parts'
Great video Ralph. Also, love the Food Fight. 👍😎
Thanks brother , I appreciate you watching!
I'm looking to get 2 light gun setup in my Man Cave and looking for a good setup thats reasonable for price and quantity. ✊🏾🙌🏾🧘🏾♂️🔥🦸🏾♂️💜
1. This video gained you a new subscriber
2. This made me pick sinden over retro arcade 👍
Thats why you buy original.
Plain and simple.
Works every single time.
Sinden light guns and most light guns are hard to get working. I put Dulphin on my PC in Launchbox and downloaded 1300 Wii games. I bought some used Wii controllers and a lightbar. Works fantastic. The only thing I could get to work perfectly on every game. First time playing Wii games on PC.
Would love to see a follow up video with Gun4IR when you get those back. Looks like that's the way to go.
Im new to the channel and I just was looking up how to set up my sinden for the pi4. Waited forever for mines. I was gonna go traditional and build an arcade again, but this plug and play is awesome. But in the description, u say it’s only 1 player only? That’s kinda sucky. Guess I’ll have to start makin blue prints for my cabinet. Awesome content. Subscribing now!
The problem you were experiencing after toggling recoil seems like a USB power issue.
I’ll be trying out the image this weekend on a couple of Minisforum systems. I’ve got Sinden and Gun4IR guns, so I’ll be trying both. This will be great if it works.
I just used a external USB SSD and switched it in my bios settings when I wanna play so I don't have to buy anymore parts and I get all the performance of my regular PC when I wanna do my light gun stuff so that's always an option too so you can switch Operating systems
Great video man! Was nice seeing ya at SFGE briefly, sorry we didn’t to chat. Next time!
Awesome video Ralph, thanks!
Think I tried a similar sinden image on a steam deck a few months back which worked fine 1 player. Once you plugged in player 2 the crosshairs would go crazy.
That build needs "Carnival King - Big Top Shooter" its a fun game, I have the real arcade machine 😁
Jurassic park is just like that all of the time for all of of the guns. Probably because it was a joystick gun.
Isn't the image, Batocera has this support since V36. You can play 2 player Sinden games if each gun uses it's own USB lane, so 1 in a front port, and one in a rear port. Batocera also pretty much automatically maps the buttons and actions. Retro Lizard just curated the collection on Roms.
The issue with the smaller "PC" could be a voltage issue. I know some of the recoil gun solenoids require extra power. Could be why when recoil is turned on the gun decides to shit the bed.
You’re probably right 💪🏻
Its probably a USB power output issue on that small mini pc.
that constant white border around the image is a no go for OLEDs
Great video Ralph. When I got my Sinden's a couple years ago, I configured my own Ubuntu Linux/RetroPieX86 setup that works well, but it was a TON of work. I need to try this Batocera image to see what it does that I'm missing in mine (probably a lot). A couple things I figured I'd chime in on:
- you can actually burn the image to a portable USB thumb drive and then tell the PC bios to boot from USB. Much easier than opening the PC up, and very little noticeable performance difference in my experience
- Jurassic Park doesn't work well on my setup either. I think it has something to do with the emulator (MAME), and not the Sinden or the rest of the build
- Any idea what version of MAME the lightgun games are using?
- I need to find a 4:3 Batocera theme so this will work in my arcade cabinet monitor
That white sensor ring on the screen is bad news for plasma and OLED displays. Shame the dev couldn't figure out a way for less intense colors to be safe for all displays in use.
Yes that is kinda cool I love botacera !
Thanks for doing this video! I'm also a Sinden user and have been disappointed with the set-up process. I have been able to get arcade versions of House of the Dead, the Virtua Cops, and a few others to work fine but the two games i wanted to play the most - Carnevil and The Lost World - I haven't been able to figure out.
To add, I'm also an AZ resident and this summer has been the worst since living here!
Hopefully I can get some funds ready here soon to get a couple Sindens! Great Video!
Judging on the usb connection problems you mentioned, maybe an external powered usb hub would have helped. It worked on the dell, so the gun itself is fine.
The software is also the same on both. GPU shouldn't matter, because the Sinden tracks the white border and there was a clean pictute when you had the problems. So I guess maybe the pc's usb controller got toasted by solenoid power draw.
I'm considering building a little light gun arcade space in my Gameroom and wanted to add techno parrot to a mini pic to make the look as clean as possible. What mini pc do you own? It looks like it handled every game you played really well!
thank you Ralph I'd never heard of sinden but now I know I'm going to get myself this setup for my cab. 👍 as you say there's plenty of "tweeks" in batocera for light guns, sensitivity, speed, different cross hairs etc, etc, but at least this image takes most of the hard work out it. thanks again. ✌️
RALPH i wonder if the lag would be better on a faster LCD / PLASMA
I’m not sure 🤔
Siden needs figure out a way to remove those white boarders during game play and only use them for calibrations in the beggining
Might be a power delivery issue. Beelink micro PCs tend to have the best voltage delivery on their Type-C ports, but that requires an adapter.
i noticed the boarder is over the text at the bottom
You can adjust the size of the box but sometimes it will overlap. It's a trade off you make to use the tech. Not everyone likes it. THanks so much for watching!
Here's an idea: Since pretty much all emulators that support light gun games will let you use the mouse as the gun, why don't they make a light gun that works as, and will be recognized as a mouse? No special software needed, works in all emulators.
Thats literally how the sinden works lmao
@@yosemitesam9576 If the Sinden light gun just works like a mouse, why would anyone have problems getting it to work, and why would you need to map it in different programs? What game or emulator requires you to map a mouse to get it to work? Do people also have problems getting their mice to work in these games and programs?
Strange. The Batocera image on my Steam Deck allows for 2 player gameplay with Sinden guns.
Power output from the the mini PC is about 100% not enough for the gun. The Dell has more watts to give.
Just another person with a Sinden that's barely been touched. I have a Windows 10 PC, but its such a pain to set up.
Since I have my CRTs, and lots of old consoles, as well as Wii and PS Move, I haven't been motivated to spend any more hours setting it up.
Since I don't have a second mini PC to try this on, I'm still looking for an easy set up guide for W10 or RPi3.
He said Niomi.. Instead of Naomi. And verta cop..omg. Thanks for the video though!
Ok, Potato . Po(tot)to ... I might have said Niomi but I for sure didn't say Verta cop, I would punch myself in my own face for saying something like that. Thanks so much for watching!
Love these videos! Great job.
Cool! I was in the video! 😁 I will check out this build!
Your comment inspired this whole video :-) So thank you for that!
@@RetroRalph 😁
I love your videos, but when someone says plug-and-play, I want to unbox this plug it in and it automatically work. I don’t want to burn an image or do anything with configuring…. I should be true plug and play…. The retro lizard is some thing I’ve been looking at for a while he makes full build plug n play light gun arcade cabs and ssds . I’ve been waiting for a plug and play solution , but a true plug and play because I’m kind of impatient with the whole process of getting all the games to work correctly
you should be able to navigate with the sinden d-pad.
It does work with the Sinden D-Pad as well 👍🏻
BareBones 9.1 on Retropie using a pi 4 is The Sh** ! for Sinden Light Guns Y’all need to peep that one .
Please provide more content I was thinking about getting a pi 4 for my sinden as its collecting dust, set up was horrible so would love to know your methods in more detail :)
Got mine working 👍🏼 this is awesome but I definitely want to upgrade to gun4ir
Awesome!!! I have two Sindens someone gave me as a present a few years ago. Spent several hours trying to get it working on my pc… was never fully successful.
Does this image also run on a raspberry pi? Thinking about running it on a candy cab via pi2jamma.
I think I'll stick with retroshooter
The only problem is teknoparrot batocera doesn't have teknoparrot...
For a PC build I would go with retrobat it's the closest to batocera but for windows. Which you guessed it, it's teknoparrot heaven.
Hey Ralph very good timing and very helpful video. I have one question does Carnival King work from mame with the sindens or gun4ir? Jeff wants to buy my carnival King if I can get it working on my megacade with sindenss I'd probably sell it to him. Hope you're doing good buddy!
Hey dude, thanks for watching and I hope all is well! I will have to check it and I can let you know. Have you picked up anything new latley?
I've kicked around the idea of purchasing Sindens or Gun4IRs, but it just seems like these alternatives take away from the reactionary shooting of a light gun game. I would say CRT is the way to go and collect for NES, PS1 and PS2.
I decided about 5 years ago that I wanted to collect light gun games for NES, PS1, PS2, PS3 and 2001 XBOX the games play great and can really be done on a budget if you're patient.
Man, I like the retroshooter but its a bit underpowered. Has anyone used this Batocera image with the usb Retroshooter guns?
great content! im stepping into the light gun stuff, right now.
what about teknoparrot with light guns? have you any experience with that`?
Sinden lightguns are a pain the ass to configure bro....
Theres a new Gun4uir revision? Was going to look for the parts online and build my own but wait now until I see what has changed.
The button placement on the Sinden really bugs me!!!! Why couldn't it be more like the gun con 2?
you know i ask for that virtua cop - thank you. lol
Funny thing I was literally just trying the latest Batocera on a RPi4 and it is the much better than my win pc. I'm planning to make a usb for booting on my computer. I think the latest stable version is 37.
Great vid, what Mame version are you using
Are you able to play the Pandora’s box light gun games on a projector screen? I am building a movie theater in my basement and we play Xbox and switch games on the big screen. These like gun games would be awesome to play on the big screen.
Awesome build 👍👍
I wonder if it’s inconsistent on the mini of possibly due to power. Did you try with recoil off on the mini pc? Just a guess.
I did but it still seemed to be flaky and inconsistent so I just figured for sake of the video and not misguiding people to just let it go for now. If I get it working consistently and identify the issue, I will absolutely make a follow-up video.
I just use Wii and dolphin bar , only cost around $50
Man, I LOVE light gun games, but have been holding off on getting the sinden guns because I’ve heard they’re not that easy. I’m really not good at this stuff, so I have been hoping for just a plug and play. Was excited when I saw this video, but I’m also using a beelink mini pc, so I may still hold off a bit
The same. I wonder which Beelink model he was using.
