This movie would’ve been SO much better if they didn’t include guns. I would’ve preferred a movie where the employees would’ve been forced to be creative with their weapons.

I really like the idea of the movie. But I find the execution a bit weak. It is a good movie, but I've enjoyed more story. I mean of course it was focused on the killings and the action. But I belive that a bit more story would have made it really good. Anyways, as always a great video! Keep up the great work!
I felt like if they didn't have firearms it would've been so much better! Imagine if they had to get personal and creative with the killing methods, that would've made it this much interesting
This was an extremely brutal film, and the ending so nihilistic. But also realistic in terms of how humans will behave when forced to fight for survival. Nothing new, we've heard of such incidents (not the Belko part but the survive at all costs part). Am also glad it didn't waste a lot of time on backstory drama. These types of films one just wants to get into it, without the boring nonsense preceding it. It was enough to see how, at the beginning, the abnormally smiling faces of the workers as they entered the building, and you got the sense that something wasn't quite right, that everything seemed hunky dory. Good review, Big Will. Thank you.
kind of reminds me of the experiment where scientists tested how willing to follow orders participants were if the tasks they were asked to do were potentially lethal. So basically a participant had to ask another "participant" that was in a separate room some questions through a speaker. However, if the "participant got the answer wrong, then the participant asking the questions would have to give them a voltage shock which gradually got worse as they continued to answer incorrectly. Although, the one asking the questions did not know that the other participant at all - they were actually an actor that acted out getting "shocked" through screams. This experiment was to ultimately test just how obedient people were in the face of someone with more power than them. The results showed (i believe) that only a few people tapped out out of pure guilt, most were having their guilt eat away at them, however the rest were following the instructions to a t. Obviously, this does have moral issues, considering the fact that the participants had no idea that they were supposed to actually give such a high amount of "voltage". To be honest you could even say that they were ultimately lied to, even though the hiding of this information would most definitely have left in trauma. Knowing the fact that you willingly continued. What I mean by willingly continuing is that the participants in an experiment are allowed to refuse to take part at ANY time, even during the experiment itself, so the people who were willing to continue to "cause pain" to that other person showed how they were willing to accept such vicious orders from a higher up despite it going against their own morale. However, the lack of information given by the researchers also withholds quite a bit of problems in itself. The world is a cruel place, and its fascinating how we learn more through such experiments. It also makes you realize how the brain is actually far more complex than we initially see it. Its not just the 3 memory stores, but its much deeper than that; and its interesting to see just how much more we can find out about it. Through moral means or not.
I was hoping the twist was that her hesitating to kill that guy, leading to 30 of her coworkers dying, put her at the lead of the kill count (causing the surviving killers to be killed)
Besides the ethical/philosophical stuff and other story/film inspirations, the two groups setup could be interpreted as an analogy for modern politics. There's one group of "smart" moral people who don't want anyone to be hurt, but they choose not to proactively protect anyone (instead trying to prevent anyone from having access to weapons), and mostly search for some doomed compromise solution. There's another group of more blunt, brash, amoral people who think they're making the hard choices and doing what needs to be done, but ultimately take power by force and many of them revel in their cruelty. Whenever each side gets something they want, the problems they're facing are not solved, bc they're created by seemingly all-powerful forces that everyone is just reacting to. The first people to suffer, almost incidentally, when the dictates come down from the faceless authority are the blue collar workers, one of them apparently mentally ill.
I haven’t seen this movie, but I recognized John Gallagher Jr. who was the stalker/killer in Hush. He had that dead eye stare of a joy kill psychopath. I stopped watching this vid to avoid spoilers as I intend to watch Belko first thing tomorrow.
It would be so dope if they made a part 2 or a movie on how they started doing these experiments on peoples at everyday jobs or show the other experiment they’ve done on peoples that they showed on the surveillance monitor at the end of the movie
broooo i started watching you like a month ago and i fucking love your content. some of the movies you review, i'd never watch on my own so this is the perfect thing i need. keep going with the great videos!!
Hey hey the twist in Scooby Doo was next level. Lmao. I am going to assume that Wendell is the best character in this despite being a monster because it's John C McGinley and I love him.
Maybe it's just me (and it truly seems to be), but I felt that there was an underlying feeling of hatefulness in this film that didn't sit right with me. I couldn't seem to pull any enjoyment from it's commentary. There was a similar film that was released around the same time which isn't talked about nearly as much called Mayhem which had a lighter tone to its slaughter and the event was caused by a viral infection as opposed to a twisted social experiment. And that small change to the narrative made the entire thing A LOT easier to tolerate in my personal opinion. In Belko, I couldn't bring myself to like or root for any of the characters...outside of Mike. Especially the C.O.O., and his followers who were just the worst. Not to mention the slimy Wendell who was just acting like a bloodthirsty sociopath.
The social experiment aspect was more interesting and original, imo. If it'd been a viral infection, it'd have been more of a given that humans would've started running amok. The deliberate setting up of human against human in this film made it more tense and brutal.
@SundayMorning That's true, and I do get that. I've personally just always been the type of guy that I HATE following crap people through a narrative. It's even worse when the person in question is the star of the film. Such as with Wolf of Wall Street or Made in America or War Dogs. These are films I have staunchly refused to watch because they are based on crap human beings and I don't want to "live" with these characters for 2 hours. Especially when that type of person gets away with whatever they're doing with no repercussions. (I know everyone in Belko gets their come-uppins'. I was just making a statement of fact.)
Wasn't Dany a decent character before she got pointlessly killed at the end? . I haven't actually watched this movie but it looked like her & Mike tried to just stay alive , they didn't seem to want to kill anyone for the sake of it . This movie being described as misery & dread is fitting. I never liked the look of it when i heard about it .

So the employees didn t even question once that ultimately no one would be left alive cos you know, witnesses? The PA guy would just keep asking for more sacrifices.

Yeah I agree. I'd love to see somebody take another crack at this type of concept with better execution (pun intended)
