  • Yo guys, in Episode 2 of materials, I'm covering TILES, where I'm gonna be showing how creating parallel boxes with basic chamfer are NOT tiles. It's all about the reflection.
    Enjoy

Your tips (lessons) are just the best. Your channel is the best thing I found in years of 3D for achieving the realism. Thank you from Brazil!

I've been browsing through your videos and the number of invaluable tips you're presenting is insane - from lesser known features of Max to cool things like these tiles. Awesome! Thank you!

It would be great if you could make a video on IOR in the future. Choosing the right IOR for my reflections is something I struggle with to this day.

Hey i love your videos!, here is a quick tip, you can use the weighted normals modifier to get the same effect with a lot less polygons, so it should be chamfer>smooth chamfers only
    > Weighted Normals

Hi, thanks for the kind words!
I also tried to do the same thing with Weighted Normals, but never managed to get those nice curvy reflections, on the other hand when I do get some sort of curviness it's lightly visible on the edge and my reflection would not be straight, but act like tiles have a tilt effect.
Here's my test of chamfer+Weighted normals vs chamfer+turbosmooth. You can see how with Turbosmooth version curves are much more pronounced where with Weighted they are 3-4 times smaller, also notice the tilt in reflection that happens with Weighted Normals, that tilt happens when I try to force Weighted normals to produce some sort of curviness.
      here's my test: prnt.sc/UJ30tZ0K344E
on this test, I used segments 1 for WN test, if I go higher, I loose curviness but I also loose that tilt I was mentioning

Loved your videos. Can you give me an honest opinion on which denoiser should I use? NeatImage, Topaz DeNoise, or DXO DeepPrime? Thanks
